Those yellow base rims look crisp as fuark, love it.

Took me far too long to do them 😣. Put down like 4 layers trying to get full coverage on the various overages I had on the rim. Then I remembered about putting down a layer of white primer to work yellow from... I like how they pop against the dark basing, but if was to do them again I might use Candlelight Yellow instead of Lantern Yellow, because in person they have a little bit of a orange hue.

@@SleepyWhatsIt Yellow is a real prick of a colour lol, went to try a Tau suit in yellow, painted one layer, nope. You can be brown. Supposedly, an airbrush is the only easy way to achieve decent opacity with mininal coats.

I totally get that. I went with yellow since I thought the yellow/black team colours would pop nicely, and push my self out of my comfort zone of painting everything purple or green. That being said, painting a ton of yellow is why I will probably never build something like a Imperial Fists army. I have been mostly been using my airbrush for priming and varnishing, but I got a better, aka non-cheap, one over the holidays, so I will have to see how well it lays down yellow, when I start learning how to use it for real painting.

Sleepy WhatsIt I'm saving my expensive miniatures for that very reason lol, so keen to get my airbrush and go to town with some easy highlighting. But how good do the Imperial Fists look lol! I've never played a tabletop game before, if I were to deviate from painting and start playing, would there be anything wrong with me fielding multiple chapters in a single army? I'm also collecting Tau and Tyranids too, I should stop buying so many minis....

I am not a 40k player, so don't take my word as Gospe, old school Warhammer from back in the day. But I have looked into the rules a few times when considering building an army. My understanding is that armies must be composed of troops that all share at least one keyword. So things like all Space Marines should have Imperial, so can be mixed. Tyranids and Tau probably not, unless there is some overarching Xeno keyword that I am not aware of. You would have to check the current troop lists to check what exactly can be mixed. That being said, my understanding is that often special abilities and rules from the Codices, which are generally better then the base rules, tend to apply tightly, e.g. only to troops with the Imperial Fists keyword. So there tends to be a synergy from building out of a single faction or chapter, because things like buffs from command units apply to all your troops. Though if there is a specific deficiency you are trying to shore up it might be worth mixing in some specialists. Man, I totally feel the curse of too much unpainted plastic and metal. "Ohh that model is cool, I will totally paint it next if I buy it now" while ignoring the small chest of drawers full of minis I still need to paint 😂

Great colour scheme!

Thanks, in spite of my complaining about painting the yellow I really do like how it comes together on the pitch.

I'd just use oil washes, mix own. Light brown is the only wash that works on yellow. Black will kill it. Also when doing yellow it's quicker to paint it white to yellow, then yellow over and over. A trick to get rid of the connection lines is paint primer in the gap, over and over (it's thicker then paint and will fill minor stuff). I use "Green Stuff World White Matt Primer" because it's trash (so thick it can't even work in airbrushes), it would fill the gap lines on all the shoulder pads, (ei 10:24).

Newer thumbnails are a vast improvement btw, old ones are a little bit Microsoft Power Point fifteen years back.

Glad to hear that other people think they are an improvement. You can tell exactly when I read a guide on making better thumbnails 😅 Still need to work on making sure I have a well framed shot to use for them.

@@SleepyWhatsIt Well that makes sense lol, a bit of advice from someone who has never made a thumbnail in his life? If you look at most big channels, be it miniature making or just general shit talking, they use the fullscreen for an image, and almost all of them use blocky letters in white for the font. Most of the miniature guys with striking thumbnails are using a little photo setup to give them a black background, focuses the miniatures and gives extra contrast. One of the miniature lads did a great tutorial with just using black cardboard and a bookshelf to create awesome photos. I'll track it down if you like? Also, if the description of these videos is time consuming, please don't burn yourself out. Listing all those paints and codes must be a pain in the ass when you already edit them into the video. Let people pause and write them down if they're one of the very few that would need that paint to replicate your work. In my understanding, most will watch for inspiration, cater to them first and you'll grow quickly. Much love.

You can really tell I don't have a background in graphics design 😅 After this trilogy is done, I will probably take some time to work on the thumbnail text to make it stand out and be more readable. That is a good point about doing specific photos for the thumbnails, since I have been using shots from the videos so far. I really should plan out the thumbnails more, since I am still treating them like an afterthought. If you could link that video it would be appreciated. I have access to a light box that works fairly well for miniature photography, but seeing how someone else does it with a different setup always helps. The paint listings in the descriptions are actually one of the easiest things for me, because they are just copied out of my notes that I use for the voiceover and making the little tags that slide in. Other then the actual painting, probably the biggest time sink with this project was recording all of the steps, because I didn't plan out what I was going to use in the video beforehand, so I ended up not using like 2/3 of footage that I recorded/cleaned up. I didn't need to record each step of the process for each of the model types, because I ended up one using one example for each section. It is a learning process though, so I know better for next time. Thanks for the support.

Sleepy WhatsIt All yours boss, kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYaqh5-vr5uibLM He has a great channel too, well worth the watch if you haven't done so already. Not a problem my dude, I hope your channel grows and you with it; don't burn yourself out and as long as you enjoy it, you're living the dream!
