This is such a wonderful series of videos that you have put together. Thank you so much! They are so helpful. You explain everything in simple terms that are easy to understand. I am going to see all of the videos first and then go back and actually work along side you as I weave my scarf. My loom has set idle in storage for over 25 years! It is time to get back into weaving. I had to stop for quite a while because of raising a family and then helping out with grandkids. I think I have finally earned some "me" time and thanks to you I can feel successful.

I was so happy to find you on KZbin as I just recently bought a Harrisville Loom. And my first project was weaving the scarf on your channel. A warp thread broke at the very end but I was able to do the mending per your video. I bought the Iweaveit app (and although struggling with it) I was able to add your scarf pattern to my iPad. I'm nearly finished weaving my 36 inch warp of 10 epi, mentioned below. I had two cases of crossed yarn so I had to pull the yarn (4)out of the reed and heddles and thread them correctly then retie the bundles to the apron rod. For the broken warp I used a yarn needle and wove the repair yarn into the weaving where it was missing then I threaded the repair yarn through the reed and heddle and tied it the warp beam.

I have an old Union loom with a twelve dent reed so it is sometimes necessary to skip a dent. For example-10 epi means 5-5-, 9 epi means 3-3-3- and 8 epi means a 2-2-2-2- threading of the reed. For my homespun yarn I always make a weaving sample of a 6.5 feet long warp, four inches wide. The last time I made four yards of plain weave, 32 inches wide. The next time I'll try 6.5 yards, 36 inches wide. I always used dowels in the cross of the warp, held to the breast beam by heavy rubber bands or elastic band because I always need both hands for threading.

Hello Dolores, I have a Harrisville loom that I was fortunate to buy used. I'm a beginning weaver and learned to sley or "warp" (as was taught to me) from front to back, but still need a refresher course each time I go through the process. I found this a great video as your instructions are pretty much the way I learned and front to back warping is hard to find on KZbin. Winding the warp was also a great lesson. Lots of great hints. Thank you.

I love this warping front to back. If you have more than one thread in a dent in the reed, does it matter in which order you thread them in the heddles?

No, it doesn’t matter in the reed. It only matters in the heddles. If they are the same color then it doesn’t matter in the heddles either.

Hi, great video. I'm looking to replace my cloth aprons with just apron rods. What material are your straps that attach the apron rods to the beam made of?

Hi, the apron rod straps are a flat polyester ribbon about 1 inch wide. It is important that they are as flat and thin as possible so they don’t cause bumps in the fabric which can cause tension problems. I have also seen texslove used for the straps.

On the HD loom I only do Front to Back because of the way the loom is made. It is more comfortable putting the back beam on the floor to reach the heddles. So tI have no videos about Back to front. PS. I see you found Ravelry. You'll love that site. Lots of knowledge to be had.

Hello Delores. Your tutorials are great. I finally have what I think are all my tools, etc assembled, and am ready to warp my 4 harness Harrisville designs loom. (It’s very old). I have inherited 2 warp chains also, and I have a question. If there are 2 warp threads at each point of the cross, do I put 2 threads in each dent? Am I better off simply creating my own warp? Hello, yes, I would put 2 warp ends per dent. That is the most common way to warp but, it does depend on the thickness of the yarn and the reed size you are using (number of dents per inch). It is hard to know what the original person had planned for the warp.

That's where I got lost, too. At some point she must have cut the warp. She skipped that step with us. She didn't show us when or where to cut the warp in order to create loose ends.

I am very careful when holding the cross. If I loose a thread I just look for what looks to be the correct one to take next.

I had that very thing just two days ago, newbie nerves I guess. Lucky for me it was only the 78 string bundle in the middle and not the whole 280 threads. I restrung a few different colors on the warp board and picked up where I left off. I will figure out what to do with the messed up part later. I learned it is important to know where the tip of the slaying tool is and not get it caught up where it doesn’t belong. Learning curve.
