Not sure why this just came up on my feed, but nicely done sir! I only pulled double 28s- all single axle including the tractor, and I couldn’t do it no matter how much I practiced. I always heard about a fellow driver from a different yard that could not only back up the set, he could put the kite into a dock door- and straight- in one shot. I never saw it tho…

Nice one Rick. I used to back up A-doubles in Oz in the 60s but drew the line at triples. The main thing is to watch the dolly and keep it and the dog straight. But, we had 40 footers, and as every artic/semi drivers knows, longer is easier, and no power steering (Mack B61). Taking nothing away from you though mate, nice job, slow and easy. ;-)

Man, I had to try and reverse a dolly using a 28 foot trailer once and I couldn't do it. I was trying to hook up the second trailer this way because there was too much snow on the ground to roll the dolly by hand but no dice. I am impressed!

Great job there driver.👍👍🏆 I seen this done in a drop lot in upstate New York about 19 years ago & it just blew my mind. I had been driving OTR for a few months. They told us in driving school that this could not be done, I told them just because they couldn't do it didn't make it impossible. When I went back to visit the school, boy did I have a story to tell them! Stay safe & healthy out there. Spoke to ya later, Ka moan.😎

It's quite easy once you get the hang of it. I've done it with a Massey Ferguson 1540 tractor and 2 tandum dump trailers. Smaller scale, but same principle. Once you get used to manipulating the rear trailer with the front trailer it's a piece of cake, not impossible at all :)

Of course you can reverse two trailers. And of yourse you can control the direction of the dog trailer (I assume by that you mean the rearmost trailer). But it takes utmost precision, and you definitely need to know what you are doing.
@MrMarkpark
@MrMarkpark 9 жыл бұрын
Pretty amazing. When you think how much manipulation has to happen at the tractor to get a single trailer backed up. Then to steer the dolly of another trailer with a trailer. it makes my brain hurt a little. I could have tried that 417 times and still not gotten there. You'd think just going straight back would be easy, you'd be wrong.

Not bad driver, you impress me! I cant back a pike for crap, but I worked with a guy who would dock his tail box in between two trailers in the dark every night. It was impressive to see. He had a trick though, he would chain the convertor to the lead box bumper so it cant pivot when he got into the yard, essentially making an A train into a B pike for the back up. He showed me his trick with a 10ft legnth of chain, and now I can do it too and look like a hotshot

I would think that besides keeping the rear trailer in check, the next most difficult and constant effort would be continual correction on the short wheelbase dolly on the 2nd trailer. So watch the trend of the rear of the second trailer and constantly adapt to the dolly. Everything else should follow.

This is Canada, not the US. This company is no longer in business as they were bought out shortly after Sears closed for good up here. The company name (SLH) stands for Sears Line Haul. Although Sears was their main source, they had alot of regular freight as well. I know as I worked out of the Toronto location, the same terminal as the driver backing this set up. I did not know him as I was night shift but I did know all the night drivers doing this.
