Slice Motion is a GAME CHANGER for MPC Sampling!
The new MPC 3 public beta introduces a new feature called "Slice Motion," which allows a pad or key in a kit to randomly trigger different slices of a sample. Combined with the new ability to assign up to eight layers to a single pad or key, this means that you can have a HUGE variation of sounds set to a single piece of a kit. This allows for some very playable multisampled kits, and I can't wait to see what people do with this game changing feature! Enjoy the video :)

First OneShot for iOS brings drum emulation to mobile (got a preset vid on my channel. I finger drum on an launchpad X, but not video of that up yet… but I got a cam this past week, so VERY soon that’ll change) Now MPC has its own style of doing it! I LOVE seeing this all happen in real time! Finger drumming keeps becoming more readily available!! My god, slicing a an 8 transient sample to randomized round robin…. 8 velocity layer 8 piece samples…. So brilliant Might need to get me an mpc…. 😅😅

This is slightly over my head. At first I was tying to figure out where you were going, but half way through, when you were talking about putting all the "Slices" on one pad and making them velocity chosen, it clicked. That's really cool and the different possibilities it opens really might be a game changer. Well done bro.
@FreeBeat
@FreeBeat 16 күн бұрын
So the slices aren't triggered by the velocity, the samples themselves (that contain the slices) are. Think of it like this: if I hit a pad softly, I get a recording of someone saying a number that changes each time I strike the pad at that velocity. If I hit the last harder, I instead get a recording of someone saying a letter that randomly changes each time I strike the pad at that velocity. I can stack up to 8 of those at different velocities. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

Thanks for this. Created a monster acoustic kit from Superior Drummer samples. It sounds so much better than any of the other options out there. A couple of suggestions for anyone else that decides to do this: 1. Disk streaming is your friend. Otherwise you'll eat up your memory with about 5 pieces of kit. I have an SSD and I can have a full kit streaming from disk with no issues. YMMV with an SD card 2. I suggest you record your samples to a grid and then use bpm to slice. I had some issues with the transient detection that was a nightmare to troubleshoot, but once I used bpm it worked perfectly. 3. Copy and paste pads, then change the samples. You'll have to set the sample slice to 1 again to get slice motion active, but it'll save you a bunch of time when setting up the programs. 4. Once you get the kit set up and all the samples streaming you can save it as a template and it'll load fairly quickly.

What was the process you used for making the original clip of 8 “tracks/hits” in SD? Wouldn’t just putting a snare midi note eight times give the exact same sound each time? Thanks for any advice!
@slowdeath3856
@slowdeath3856 5 күн бұрын
@@peterburke579 SD has round robin for same velo notes, so there is variety. It's probably not 8 levels of RR per drum, but without diving into the samples I couldn't know for sure so I just kept it at 8. I did a multitrack output of SD in my DAW and routed each drum to a different audio track. I turned off bleed for every channel. Added a midi clip that had all the drums being hit 8 times at each desired velocity. Exported those tracks into the MPC and used BPM to chop. The only annoying part was the cymbals since those all get routed to the overheads, so I had to do every cymbal one at a time.
@FreeBeat
@FreeBeat 5 күн бұрын
@@peterburke579 I'm guessing that SD (just like the Neil Peart library I used), has a bunch of round robin style samples, so the same MIDI note repeated actually triggers slightly different sounds.

Round-Robin! I was hoping someone would touch on this. Previously you had to use layers 2-4 for variations and simultaneous pad for other pads with velocity differences. Pain. Akai stepped it up and I hope they start delivering some good libraries with this. Also, if RAM is an issue, it’s good to strip out any silence in the samples to keep them as short as possible. I notice each samples last hit has a bit of space after it.
@nicks.8003
@nicks.8003 15 күн бұрын
You can use Audacity Macros to strip silence (you’ll need to re-slice the samples and re-assign them). Another RAM saver is you can change sample rate per sample. Kick drums rarely have anything above 8k, so 16kHz sampling is good and 1/3 the space/RAM.

@FreeBeat

I must admit, I cringed at the use of game changer. However you did a very nice job demonstrating a great feature. I saw a video where someone upgraded their RAM to 4gb. I believe that’s as high as you can go (it’s not for the average person to do) While this is a cool feature, it hamstrings the device and Akai should rework their architecture to support more RAM and unlock an even powerful machine.
