Find the Perfect Exposure for Resin 3D Printing With UVTools!
In this video, I'll show you how to find the perfect resin exposure using an amazing program called UVTools!
In the past trying to find the best exposure settings for any resin on your 3D printer was a long and frustrating process. You needed to print multiple resin Validation Matrix tests one after another and then compare the results.
Now with the Exposure Time Finder function in UVTools, you can find the perfect resin exposure setting for almost any resin in about 90 minutes!
Use the link below to download UVTools and follow along with the video to create an Exposure Time Finder for your printer!
I want to thank Tiago Conceição for creating and constantly updating UVTools with so many great features.
I'd also like to thank Khalil Nurullah and Vinicius Silva for helping me learn how to use UVTools so that I could make the best tutorial video for this feature.

*Attention*
If you don't see the "Multiple Exposures." window when using the Exposure Time Finder function.
Please slice a new file for your model of printer using Chitubox. Then use that file to begin this process.
There have been some issues with older pre-sliced tests and some files sliced with Lychee .
General guideline for creating your test
Layer Height:
I print at 0.05 because I get great detail with a shorter print time than with thinner layer heights.
Remember that smaller layers = more layers which = longer print time.
Same for both Mono and RGB screen printers.
Bottom Layer count:
I recommend 4 bottom layers on most prints, but I do use 5 on larger prints.
Same for both Mono and RGB screen printers.
Bottom Layer Exposure time:
For Mono screen printers I use 20s - 30s.
For RGB screen printers I use 45s - 55s.
Positive Pins and Negative Holes:
This setting can be used on both mono and RGB screen printers.
Custom Text:
This setting can be used on both mono and RGB screen printers.
Normal Step Increments:
For Mono screen printers use increments of 0.25s, 0.5s, or 0.75s.
For RGB screen printers use increments of 0.5s, 1s, or 1.5s.
Number of Generations:
I've found that 4 to 6 gives a good range of tests.
Same for both Mono and RGB screen printers.

I believe Elegoo Mars 2 Pro (for example), does not support multiple exposures, at least that was the case before they released ChituBox 1.9.0 which required a firmware update for all CTB-based printers. Perhaps the latest firmware for CTB printers supports this now? (I believe that this firmware blocks you from using any slicer other than ChituBox 1.9.0 free or paid.)

Absolutely wonderful video. Had great success with the Anycubic Eco on my Saturn at 2s but out of personal curiosity wanted a side-by-side snapshot of multiple exposures to be sure I'm printing optimally. My first test was 2-3s with 0.2s jumps at 0.03 layer height, with the results I am more than satisfied with my 2s exposure and could, possibly, push it even lower. Thank you for another great video.

I'm so glad to hear that the video helped you! I know another viewer asked this a few days ago. I had encouraged them to ask this question in the UVTools Facebook group. However, I just looked through the group and couldn't find their question. So I'd definitely recommend you join that group and ask about scaling the test there. They will have the best advice/input. As for how the tests are organized, I believe it just depends on build plate size. If the plate is pretty large then it will put them in a line like what you're seeing. However, on smaller build plates it will stack them to save space.

@@SlicePrintRoleplayso a quick question…when I ‘test’ to see if my Mars 4 Ultra is compatible it exposes the bottom layer, lifts and retracts, exposes the first block, then lifts and retracts, then exposes the second, third and fourth blocks before lifting and retracting again.. I think since it’s lifting and retracting between the first and second block that I’m going to have issues. Planning to check the documentation to see if my printer is on the list…if that extra lift/retract wasn’t in there I think it would work. I just don’t know if I can trust it, yet.
@SlicePrintRoleplay
@SlicePrintRoleplay 5 ай бұрын
@@forrestegan hmm I agree that sounds odd. However, the only thing that matters (for the test at least) is that each block is exposed for a slightly longer time than the one before it. As long as that's happening (even if it's lifting at odd times) then the test is likely working correctly.

@@SlicePrintRoleplay very first gen. no message just didn’t show on flash drive, and not just on the printer I could not find it using explorer, but for some reason it saved to file on my computer and then I was able to copy to the drive and print it. I’m guessing from what’s been happening is that I’m having problems with things that are not perfectly centred on the build plate it gets a failure if it’s to the sides, I’ve tried levelling the plate time and time again but I don’t know what else to do, aside from trying to buy a new build plate.

Quick question, The exposure section seem to have changed and I can only control the brightness. I am setting it up for an Anycubic Mono M5S. Is that why the interface is different? I tried to slice a model using 3 different slicers (Anycubic slicer, Chitubox and Lychee)
@EvilMP5
@EvilMP5 11 ай бұрын
Hey Slice Print Roleplay, should I concern myself with the testing? Because what I typically do is get the resin settings by model from the resin manufacturer and they have worked out pretty good for me with no issues. Well except me screwing up the casual supports here and there. LOL.
@SlicePrintRoleplay
@SlicePrintRoleplay 11 ай бұрын
So the answer to that 100% depends on you. If you're happy with the results you're seeing then that's all that matters. I will never be so "Elite" as to say that you have to calibrate your settings. However, if you're having failures, your models are lacking details, or you're just curious then calibrating your exposure time is a great diagnostic step.

Not at all. There are SO many options that I just couldn't cover them all. Basically that setting just makes the test go faster if your printer firmware will allow it. If not it will simply print as though it wasn't on.

I am a beginner. I have a mono LCD resin printer. I also use Chitubox for the slicer. Recently I was happily printing and the printer stopped at layer 791 out of 1000 As an example. No messages or errors. Just stopped with the print sunerged in the resin tray. Is there a way to "resume" a print? Or just print the remainder of the print. and I could simply apply a touch of resin and the cure the two pieces in to one piece? Also, there are supports and the model is tilted.

Ugh that's such a bummer! Unfortunately, I don't know of an easy way to restart a print that's stopped like what you're seeing. When uploading the test file into UV Tools, I get an error message : " System Overflow Exception" and it closed the program. Any help about why I am getting this error?

Hmm I've not encountered that error yet. Are you using the newest version of UVTools? What slicer did you use to slice the file you're importing into UVTools? If you haven't, yet I'd highly recommend posting about this error in the UVTools Facebook group. Or on the UVTools GitHub page.

i wanna say you did an excelent job creating this tutorial. i did what you said and at the time of saving the test it gives me an error message "system.NotSupportedException: Currently we don't allow file save/encode/recreation on purpose on this encrypted file format. We are against not permitted user data encryption, locks, constrains, restrictions, monopolization and non-sense policies that prevents others from create and lead-forward solutions around technology. Full supporting this file format would be step-back for 3D technology and the community overall. Still, we allow to read the file for review, recover data and detect problems to make you a bit more covered from mistakes. Please make your shift from this products and help the 3D technology go forward and open!

I really appreciate the positive feedback on my video! I'm sorry I know that's frustrating. However, the creator of UVTools feels very strongly about the way some companies are now encrypting their hardware. I fully support the creator's right to not integrate the encrypted file type. But I do hope (one way or another) the situation gets resolved and it's integrated in the near future.

@@SlicePrintRoleplay no worries, the idea of that program is really good. We just have to find a really good file to pull the settings from lol. I just love the idea of creating multiple tests at the same time with some preset values. easy to recreate just takes a bit more time lol
