Awesome. That's exactly what I was thinking you should do with that crystal piece

I can honestly say I wasnt after the initial carving but have to show that things can be turned around you just need to think about it.

I can’t wait to see what you do with these. The black backing really makes the color pop.

With a bit of black resin and something to throw it on I'm hoping to get something wearable from a disappointing stone.
@Scarlet_Soul4 ай бұрын
With ring inlays like that you do also have to note to add a little curve to the face and back
@RoysRocks4 ай бұрын
Yeah or you just slice them shorter and the resin does the rest. Doesn't have to be a snug fit.

I really enjoyed this video. I had not heard of blue tack, but I have used another putty-like "adhesive" somewhat like it, but I would never trust it to hold anything ( not even paper.) Nice technique! If I ever decide to go back to making mosaics (NEVER WILL), I may use this technique. (NO, I WON'T)
@RoysRocks4 ай бұрын
Haha Riley Gunn translated my crazy Aussie english to American english and called it some sort of putty. I'll have to work it out for next video or it will be a texta/permanent marker debacle all over again.

Really nice Roy, I have lots of side facing stones and never thought to try slicing them like that, I just gave up on them. Need a blade that thin…. Thanks for sharing
@RoysRocks4 ай бұрын
The thinner the blade the better. I reckon compared to the standard thickness and coaseness blades these would lose a quarter of the stone.
@dcallan8124 ай бұрын
dop wax might be useful for holding opal when you slice it. The slices look very nice, I just found the thin blades on the web they will come in very handy. Great update 2x👍
@RoysRocks4 ай бұрын
I normally use dopping wax or epoxy putty as I mentioned in the vid. Blutack works surprisingly well though.

Riley sold me a fantastic blade for slicing. It is larger than all my other blades, but as thin as that one you got there, and has the cutouts in the disc that prevents suction problems. I have not looked back, it is my standard slicing tool now
@RoysRocks4 ай бұрын
Maybe they are worth getting in stock then if people would find them useful. I'll have to talk to the factory again.

Nice showcase Roy. Thanks! I have a stone like this at home. Will try to cut it up and use as inlay or something as well, because it is great from the side but way too dull and directional from the normal face. Curious to see what you will make of these
@RoysRocks4 ай бұрын
Give it a shot. Not too hard and the slices dont matter much since you'll need to cut and shape them again anyway.
@jay83534 ай бұрын
Id definitely be into some of these blades to Roy. So any information on where you got them from or when you might stock them would be appreciated
@RoysRocks4 ай бұрын
I'll see if I can find a good amazon listing but most are just the thick boys since they are cheaper. With opal I guess it is worth trying to save every little bit so the thinner blades are actually worthwhile.
@jay83534 ай бұрын
@RoysRocks yea dead right. Some of the opal I try to save ends up being not worth keeping because the blades are too thick so any help in finding thinner blades would be awesome

Electroplated diamond saw blades. They can be called a million different things so you might have to try a lot of variations of that.
