Sliema sits just over Valletta Harbour from the great UNESCO castles and cathedrals of the Maltese capital. It's a vibrant, lived-in area. You can find colourful apartments rolling down to coves and tidal pools where the Mediterranean Sea sloshes against the quaysides.
Sliema is a resort town on the east coast of the Mediterranean island of Malta. The waterfront features a long promenade and the 18th-century polygonal Fort Tigné in the south. To the north, St. Julian’s Tower is a 17th-century watchtower and battery. The baroque-inspired Stella Maris Church dates from the 1850s. On tiny Manoel Island is the star-shaped Fort Manoel, built by the Knights of St. John.
Sliema, town, eastern Malta, situated on a headland between Marsamxett Harbour to the east and St. Julian's Bay to the west. It faces Valletta southward across the harbour, with Fort Tigné dominating the entrance.
Nowadays, Sliema is one of the top commercial districts in Malta, where all the leading designer shopping outlets, restaurants and cafés can be found. The town earned its stellar reputation during the British period in Malta, when it became renowned as the upper-class' locality of choice.
Sliema itself doesn't have any sandy beaches, in fact there is no Sliema beach Malta. The shoreline spanning from the local area all the way round to St Julians has quite a rocky shore. This doesn't stop locals from grabbing a towel and lounging by the water.
Whether it’s day or night, the resort town of Sliema thrums with activity. Historic cathedrals, watchtowers, and forts spatter the area, while along the waterfront locals shop, dine, bar hop, or stroll along the promenade for views of the shimmering Mediterranean.

Looks nothing like the Sliema I knew 60 yrs ago, it was a lovely seafront quaint with Maltese architecture like in the back streets so lost its character a bit but times change, I was due to visit for the first time in 60yrs in 2020 but was cancelled because of Covid19 doubt if I will see it again now. So thanks for the videos spotted the flat I lived in Mrabat St. on your walk from Sliema to St. Julian's. Thank you

beautiful Malta and my Aunt lives there and my cousins.....they have been there many years, while rest of the families - relatives lives here in Scandinavia / Europe....I am visiting Malta this September for short days only and to see my relatives....Looking forward to stay in Sliema area and my friend there lives nearby the beach, and looking forward to try some cafe's and restas in the area....lovely weather and nice to see theres a lot of activities going on the area.... nice video your sharing....

I worked out there in the 90's, I was staying the other side of Sliema opposite the old ballroom dancing jetty. One day I watched helpless as a young man from Libya jumped into the sea off the Jetty. That day I had managed to score some pot and I was sitting on my hotel balcony stoned watching the sea as it was very rough to the extent I was thinking how powerful the sea is compared to man. Next thing this kid just jumps in. There were no life rings available but at least I stopped his friend from jumping in to try and save his mate, something he thanked me for days later.

Hi, when i was married it was the first time we went to Malta to stay in Sliema in a ground floor appartment next door to a super market which sadly has now gone glad to see Marks and Spencer still there in the same place That was over 42 years ago how this place has now changed, High rise blocks.
