The whole “character with weird voice sings badly” trope is played a lot but in all cases, the other characters acknowledge it as bad. Suppose when the girls first met him and later said something like “what’s up with his voice?” And poked fun at it, then we’d know for sure that it’s bad on purpose. Yet we never see the characters acknowledge his dead speaking voice let alone singing, and when the characters don’t acknowledge something, it suggests that the writers themselves are blind/deaf to it.
