A suggestion for What’s Up Wednesdays - get local guides and regular fisherman call in with reports. The guides (and locals) will appreciate the exposure and we all get the best what’s up info.

Another great video for those living vicariously through them..... Got to use my new Bummy Stick week before last in Destin..... the fishing wasn't that great but the rod was awesome..... and the fish caught were so easy to get in.... the rod is so light I could cast it for hours and wasn't wore out unlike what it replaced...... Again, great rod.......

Hey Bama... you should do your Whats Up Wednesday, as a category on videos so it will be easy to find as a series. And people can use that series as a starting point year after year for coming down to fish.

While fishing on Ocracoke Island some years back, my first wife and I found a shrimp boat selling right off the boat and we filled up a cooler. We then met friends on the beach and fished a while catching speckled trout off the bottom. While moving my truck farther up from the water as the tide came in I noticed we didn't have enough gas to drive home so I asked my wife how much cash she had. Not good news, so I told her I would reel in my rods and ask my friend to front me a few bucks and I'd pay him back the next day at work. While reeling in my final rod I has a small hit and figured it was a spot or croaker. As I reeled it through the shore break I saw a royal blue flat thing coming in on my hook. What I snagged was of all things in the Atlantic Ocean, I hooked a blue velcro wrist wallet with $17.46 zipped inside it! True Story! We bought gas and drinks for the ride home! Crazy day for sure!

Here in Tennessee (GO VOLS) I catch Skipjack Herring below the dams on the Tennessee River, best catfish bait ever. They look like a cross between a lady fish and a tiny tarpon (1-3 lb typical). They blow up like crazy on schools of small threadfin shad just like in your video. They fight like crazy, strongest head shake and aerobatics per pound than any fish in the water. Actually takes 15lb braid, 20lb fluro leader, and metal frame spinning reel like a Penn Fierce to get them in the boat with heavy current flow, no teeth but super boney jaw like a tarpon, gotta hog them in or they throw the hook. Anything flashy in a blitz catches them, we use foley spoons. Such Fun.

These fellows invest (the store) in something they know about, but what is really impressive is how they promote. Two hours at the store, once a week, then you are free to go FISHING!

I’m looking for a setup to replace a 9ft Daiwa TDA surf that I broke last year. It was my jack of all trades rod. I would throw spoons, Gotcha Lures for blues,etc. I also used it as a light bait rod throwing 2 ounce sinkers plus bait on days when the surf was light. Is the Bummy Stick the rod I need to replace it?

Yes if you want to spend the $200 (I think that is the price). The okuma rockaway HD rod is a good cheaper alternative

I'm going to have to start using a uni-to-uni knot or FG knot with my leader. I've been using a swivel and it's been bitten off several times by bluefish or spanish.
@TopSecretAsiant
@TopSecretAsiant Жыл бұрын
Use the FG or Alberto knot because the knot is smaller. You can use the uni to uni if the line you are using is small like 15 lb

You just have to go up and down the beach. Fish move up and down the beach. They don't sit and wait. Any structure will hold reef fish and a few other species, just make sure you have your AL reef endorsement with your salt water AL license

@@yakfishin4912 what fish species to target in March is the question. Not looking for exact coordinates, more what to look for when walking the beach. I fish Minnesota lakes, we have a few, just looking for basic features to seek out.

@@Whatisnextinlife Pier: Sheepshead and mangrove snapper if you fish one of the pilings around the middle of the pier w/ live bull minnows (fiddler crabs if you can get any), Beach: Pompano (buy a pompano rig(use frozen shrimp or buy some fish gum), beach bum outdoors has them), Spanish and Bluefish (they are always there, use a 1.5oz to 3oz spoon based on the winds), Redfish (if you can find a trough use mullet or pin fish, they are there sometimes), Whitings (you can use the same rig for pompano) Orange Beach Jetty/Seawall: Spanish and Bluefish, Speckle Trout and Mangrove Snapper (use live bull minnows, beach bum outdoors has them if not go to Hook Up which is down the street), Sheepshead Maybe (use live bull minnows at the end of the jetty) Fort Morgan Beach: IDK if the Jacks run through there during March, Spanish and Bluefish, Speckle Trout (I never caught a speckle trout out there, I heard of other people catching them, they used spoons). I fish Fort Morgan during the summer for Jacks. Fort Morgan Pier: you can try and go for redfish, black drum, and sheepshead at one of the wooden pilings using bull minnows or shrimp. Never caught anything out there, granted I only fished the pier twice. Gear: I use 30 lb. braid main line and use 20-40 lb. mono leader. Use either the FG or Alberto Knot because the knot is smaller, if you are not comfortable tying those knots use a swivel. Use a 7'6 M-MH rod if you use live bull minnows or shrimp, same line setup. If you want to throw lures, I use a 9'6 Okuma Rockaway HD Rod with either my 6000 Daiwa Saltist MQ or 8000 Saltist MQ. If you have any more questions just reply.

Great job, I’m going to try to come over to your store to get those ES lures. My schedule has been hectic @ work. Hopefully can make it there soon, can’t go to Seawall @ Orange Beach The Gulf restaurant put up several signs to stay off their parking. Loved that Seawall, have to find other places to go to. Can’t even go to the Jetties. Great job, keep it up, I’ve spreading the word at work and when I go fishing on Perdido Beach to help you guys with your business. GO GATORS!!
