In the USA, the Audi allroad starts at $65,900 while the Subaru starts at $26,645 and at the very most is $40,000 for the XT. I don't need "Luxury", I just don't want to get stuck in the snow. For what you get, Subaru is a great value. Here in Upper Michigan we get sometimes 300 inches (over 7 meters) of snow annually, I have a Subaru XV with snow tires and never have gotten stuck. How much snow do you get in your part of Poland? My grandfather was from the southeastern part near Ukraine.

I am also from southeastern part of Poland (Rzeszow). Now we have almost no snow here but some years ago we had really snowy winters. Not 7 metres but enough to get stuck very often with 2WD cars.

Audi is luxury segment where no Subaru goes even at $40K. Plus when the snow melts like most of the year in the Great Lakes area you'll want the superior handling of the car-based A6. Or for low US$20's a Regal TourX 2.0T with torque vectoring AWD and 295 lb-ft of torque as standard.
@Suleimenoff
@Suleimenoff 4 жыл бұрын
@@normt5463 no offence but Audi and superior handling do not belong in the same sentence. If anything it is not better than Subaru because it is heavier and the engine is located outside the wheel base, whereas Subaru is lighter, has lighter engine, which is located withing the wheelbase.

Not going to add to the Audi vs Subaru arguments. But this shows that Subaru’s AWD system is very good. Here in Australia our 2010 outback was able to tackle the “outback” and go places that you wouldn’t expect a car of that size and weight to be able to go to.

Without the lockers it'll be pretty predictable. It's open diff front and rear... 1 Roller in front and 1 roller in back, it'll go nowhere. 3 will be even worse. 1 roller up front it'll drive right off. 1 roller in back it'll drive right off. (all in 4x4 mode obviously) You're welcome.

W praktyce. Rolki to sytuacja teoretyczna.

Everyone talking about how Quattro is better. Well, let's face it. It doesn't matter what you drive. If you equipped your car with both "AWD" and summer tyres, and you're driving in winter/rain/snow/ice, you're not going to get better results than a car with any other drive train. All drive trains will perform well in many weather condition, if you equip them with the best tyres for the condition you put it through. Period. Your tyres do impact your vehicle's driving performance in the real world. Doesn't matter what you drive if your tyres, the things giving you traction, aren't up to task. When your car is on rollers, it won't help or change anything. Rollers are 100% loss of traction. This is to simulate the moment in time where you only have 1 wheel giving you traction.

The weakness with Outback lone rear wheel with grip is because the AWD systems in the Outback not as the same with other SUVs from Subaru ( Forester , XV ) they have center diff-lock that split the torque equally 50/50 while the Outback doesn’t, it performes more like FWD , its AWD system split the torque 60/40 even though it did great 👍🏼.

No, that's not correct. Outback, Forester or XV with CVT have the same awd system - ACT-4. It is FWD biased, Subaru claims that it is 60/40 but in fact it is active from ~90/10 to 50/50. Subaru in this video is petrol, other one is diesel and it was added to A6 Allroad test here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poC6pKhtg9N_nLM Tyres - as long as there is grip - they do not influence the test. Weather - warm and dry, so no influence. Rollers - the same. Place - always flat.

You’re probably kidding. What’s the reason to test AWD of diesel and petrol cars if it affects the test and it’s known in advance? Same flat surface, was it measured and how? Tyres and whether do not affect the grip? In which universe? Ok anyway if we ignore it. What about rollers, they are not the same, blue and red (yes it can be the same model, but the state and degree of wear are different). Thus not representative.

@@plexiglasscorn ESP is responsible for stability - it intervenes when understeer or oversteer appears. Traction control is responsible for forward movement when you start the car or drive in a straight line and traction is lost. The problem is (usually) that ESP cuts the engine power (rpm) when wheels are slipping during start. If you turn esp off - you can reach higher rpm and use more power but traction control still will be braking slipping wheels to equalize to speed of all wheels.
