Have you ever seen one of these far from road? Rear diff lock is not necessary, however I wonder if it's 100% lock. It looks that it is a true diff lock.
@silviuflorescu6838 Жыл бұрын
Why would you say that the rear lock is not necessary? Combined with the front EDL, you get a 4x4 traction. And, for a quicker response of the Haldex, you can buy a Haldex conttoller wich lets you engage it from 0 to 100% instantly. Yes, it's not like Iveco Daily where you also can have front locking diff and reductor, but you can do medium offroading in a T5/T6 with rear locker. I have a camper built on a 2011 Vw T5.1 with single cab on chassis, 140hp, 6+1 manual transmission, Seikel lifting kit and 5mm aluminium engine protection underneath. I "turned" the steel rims for a grater negative offset (gained 6cm on each wheel), so now I have much more stability. When I want to play in offroad, I detach my camper box from the chassis, I put the snow chains and go in the mud. It's a real satisfaction to look back through the back cabin window and see both rear wheels spinning and grabbing the rocks. When I'll be in your country, I will contact you for a test, if you want..

What a weird combo. You can see its clearly more effective side to side, but its still reliant on haldex sending enough torque to the rear drive unit. In the front wheel grip test, you can see the rear wheels are in sync with each other but out of sync with the front wheels.

what i find strange is @3.09 edl and rear diff lock it looks like the rear wheels are lagging the front like the haldex isnt sending power through ? at the start there is only 1/4 of a turn of lag but as the front speeds up the rear appears to lag more ? there seems to be the idea floating around the internet that the diff lock locks the haldex but this doesnt appear to be the case, how ever if we look @5.21 the rear axle lags the front by only maybe 1/4 of a rotation, do you think the haldex always sends a small amount of power but if more torque is required the slippage is more obvious ? be interesting to see the test on a up hill or something
@4x4.tests.on.rollers Жыл бұрын
3:09 - both rear wheels are on rollers, rear diff is locked, haldex is locked, one front wheel is on roller, front diff is open. In such situation front wheel will be spinning to times faster than any of the rear, that's how differentials work. 5:21 - rear wheel with grip is locked the the one without grip which is locked to the front axle where both wheels spin with the same speed as they are both on rollers. Thus the same speed goes to the rear. We omitt the minimal slippage which may ocur within the haldex. The more torque is required the more compression there is on haldex. Usually it sends some torque to the rear all the time except off-throttle driving.

Sadly the current world is simply too infatuated with everything digital, electronic etc. while constantly forgetting that certain down-to-earth mechanicals still do the trick better and more efficiently. Simply put, EDL (ABS traction control) alone is a joke. If only the T6 also gets s front locking diff or physical LSD......
@multisilhoutte2 жыл бұрын
Sad, but it's much cheaper to create a module, that controls the ABS and brakes certain wheels basically. If I had diff lock in my 2002 Volvo XC70, Haldex would be a joke, I have a viscous coupling.

Possibly. We as consumers have no chance of finding out if there are actual newer software-versions on the newer, altough same car. But i think it is also dependend on how much throttle he gives and the actual weight. So slight differences are always there.

VW made a big mistake by using a Torsen differential in the center !!! Now without a full rear diff locker you'll be stuck even if one wheel has 100% grip! Dacia Duster has a much MUCH better setup, using a magnetic wet-clutch as the center "differential". If necessary it can be fully locked, just like a proper 4x4 👍Only then the EDL can engage the way it should. Just look at the new Duster roller test and compare that with the VW 😢 The Subaru also has a good all wheel drive. 4Motion on the other hand....
@4x4.tests.on.rollers2 жыл бұрын
There is no torsen. There is even no center differential at all but a clutch-pack, like in Duster. VW uses haldex. LOCK mode in Duster doesn't work like a proper locker. Clutch-pack ain't permanently locked then, torque split is still variable.
