OK song, this version was a radio "chopped" version. Verses shortened, the instrumental cut in half, and it seemed to be arranged funny. For your own interest, listen to the full version off of the album and see if it changes your outlook. Great channel by the way, you guys are my favorites. Horns up!

If you watch the music video they aren't wearing their masks, which basically symbolizes the whole "stapled shut inside an outside world" because the band is always in the masks and people know them more by stage personas than who they really are and they don't feel like they're the voice of the outcasts like they used to be, which is why Vol 3 is so metaphorical and subliminal. Vol 3 is basically 'we are popular and everyone loves us but only true fans will seriously understand the meaning past the lyrics'. Someone can jump on the SlipKnoT train but they won't know what "1 life, 9 hearts, and 18 hands that will rip you all apart" unless they know who SlipKnoT are and what the band really means to themselves and their fans.

Exactly. I remember when this album came out and all of the “hardcore fans” hated it and stopped listening to Slipknot. Personally, I think this album is their best, and possibly their darkest. Most of the lyrics deal with Corey’s alcoholism and the aftermath once he got sober, which is a very heavy subject. People think that if a song doesn’t make you shit blood, then it isn’t heavy. Ignorance at its best.

Vin and Sori great channel BTW!! Just a few comments I would like to say. As for Slipknot staying always masked and not revealing their identity; I had read some where awhile ago that that was actually their intent but u know the media and the fans get curious. Idk how there identity was found out if it was a tattoo or there voice or a picture but there identity was eventually made! As for not completely understanding why people worship or get excited to b around musicians; for me its years and years of listening to there music, watching interviews and reading articles about them that you feel you know them and you have a connection with them! For instance I am a huge fan of Korn and in I have struggled with depression and wanted to hurt myself and when Korn dropped their song "Here To Stay" i felt alot of the same feelings that were in that song and it saved my life!! So Korn has a special place in my heart! I hope this all makes sense and adds some insight for you guys!! Thanks again!!!

Slipknot won the the 2006 Grammy Award for 'Best Metal Performance' with 'Before I Forget', so yeah, the song was exceptionally well received. When I hear "Fray the strings", what comes to my mind is some sort of construct, or trap, that is held together by a tight string with a candle underneath it. I interpret it as something like 'Go on, wear me down until I snap', 'Eat away at what suspends me' et cetera. Which fits right into your interpretation of the rest of the song, I think. Love you guys!

When this song was released i wasnt really into metal. More into hip hop/rap. But this song along with songs like korn "coming undone" from the same era brought me in and made me a fan of the genre. I understand that being a fan from the beginning of the band how this would sound, but to me this was a huge gateway to get myself to explore slipknots catalog further and also the genre as a whole. It helped me become a full fledged metal head.

Also, Vol. 3 the Subliminal Verses is written without any profanity simply because critics at the time called Slipknot talentless screamers who can't write a good song without it, that their song writing is carried by the profanity. So Slipknot said "Oh really?" And this album was born. Also also(great english right?) this album was recorded in a supposedly haunted location, in which weird stuff happened to them there. In the original version of this, a strange loop plays at the end. Its a loop that began playing and wouldnt stop until they shut everything down and restarted it again(happened enough times to be annoying, according to Taylor) when they were recording Vermilion. Spooky stuff!
