there are many artists who do this, but Jim always comes across as your neighbor who heard you playing in your garage and came over with a six pack of beer and shows you how its really done. I just love that about him. He literally reminds me of almost every guy I grew up with in rural NW New Jersey.

Having a slight bit lighter of an attack is just a by product of being a developed lead player. If you dig in too much with your pick on tremolo or sweep picking you end up accidentally getting stuck on strings. Same with riffs. Too much attack can really hurt your sound. It also helps with dynamics in your picking. By having a default light approach you can add just a tiny bit more aggression to the picking to add a little more energy to a section to make it stand out more. Jim’s no stranger to picking aggressively but he’s also a great example of never doing more or less than needed to serve the song. Just some tips that may help you out with your playing

There is something that comes from the combination of Jim's personality, the way he plays guitar and talks and describes what he is playing, and the design of his artist model Fender's that makes me want to run out to the nearest Guitar Center as fast as possible and play guitars even when I know I can't afford a guitar. Thank God there are at least a few heavy metal and really successful entertainers in general who are down to earth personalities like Jim.

So ok for people trying to cover this song: They play it differently live than on the CD. So the parts shown here are obviously the correct live parts for guitar 2. The guitar 1 parts are different. Unfortunately there is no 1 tab available that is 100% correct, mainly because Slipknot plays this song differently live as Jim is explaining himself on this vid. Just listen to the cd version and then compare with the live version and you will hear clear differences with Jim's parts.

@@jay-pi5gn while I would say that's the musical equivalent of throwing yourself in the deep end, I gotta give you credit for starting with slipknot. When I first started learning guitar, I immediately looked at Metallica songs and the first song I learnt fully was Am I Savage. If you don't mind listening to Metallica, I would recommend taking a look at some of their stuff. I've learnt so much from them like different chords and different playing techniques. TunnelSnake9337 well when famous band members make videos like this tutorial there often not super detailed but yes they do show up close his playing, its far more helpful to put the pieces of the song seperated and explain thoroughly which frets and rhythms and techniques. This is just him playing thru it slower up close with a little commentary

As a drummer of 18 years with no perspective on guitar playing I was genuinely shocked to see the bulk of the riffs are played on one string at a time lol
@Skbonesin
@Skbonesin Жыл бұрын
I mean, that's not completlyyyy true. I think the reason the bulk of these metal riffs don't have many chords is the low tuning. Too much distortion to sound good especially in psychosocial where you have the guitar only intro, I think it's just supposed to sound tight. Just my two cents
