@Enno I slightly agree with you, but he's very clean, and his writing is way better than the average player. I'd say above average guitarist over all. He's not Yngwie Malsteen or Steve Vai, but you don't need to be them to write killer riffs.

All Hope Is Gone had some of the most technical and insane riffs Slipknot has ever done. To this day. Mick is an underrated master of his craft. His movements are almost robotic. You can tell this man has spent countless years honing his ability.

he's not headbanging he's keeping time with the backbeat. So he feels the rhythm he's supposed to play at. The fact he's feeling it at normal time and then sub dividing it like that is crazy tho. Having technically demanding songs is always a pain in the ass to record, especially if you’re quadtracking. You gotta lay down 4 rhythm tracks that have to sound identical with minor differences in placement of fingers on the fretboard and strike-zone on the strings. Now imagine doing that for 11 songs that are about the same level of difficulty to track.

Follow-up: I know now why I don’t like Slipknot. The guitar tone sucks for this type of music and Corey Taylor is not my style. The guitar tone is too “squishy” for this style of music, for my tastes. It sounds like an Orange amp style distortion, and it needs to be a boosted Mesa Boogie dual rectifier type distortion - fast and tight. Corey Taylor’s vocal style makes me cringe. I don’t like how busy his verses are. Go figure, Corey Taylor has a lot he wants to say - lol. These are just taste things, though. Clearly Slipknot is a killer band full of talented people. I’m just going to return to not listening to them.

All he does is using Wah with tones of pedal effects to the point that all you hear is noise.. And why is it that AHIG most technical songs are never played live? This Cold Black, Gematria, Butcher's Hook, Vendetta, All Hope is Gone.. Are they too difficult to play while headbanging or doing crazy shit live? I don't know, I love Slipknot but this are questions that I will never know the answers for, those songs kick much more asses than the ones of AHIG they always play.

Joel Dergal I admit, he's not great at solos. But you can't deny he is excellent at almost everything else. I heard that AHIG was written in small groups, so apparently thats why they don't play certain songs live. Also they weren't as popular as some of there other songs.
@joeldergal5147
@joeldergal5147 10 жыл бұрын
What I meant is that his solos in studio sound great, but he can't reproduce them live, I don't know why, and there are plenty of songs in AHIG that have excellent guitars, I'd say most of them, but they only play Sulfur, Dead Memories and Psychosocial (sorry if I forgot any but I've only seen them playing those live) and it's a shame they don't include all the other amazing and much more complex songs live. I hope they won't do the same with the next album.
@tandex710
@tandex710 9 жыл бұрын
Joel Dergal That doesn't necessarily mean they can't play them but they need to put songs they feel would fit into their set. They have a specific standard for their sets so they're going to add songs they feel add to that. Gemetria is a great song but can they get the same level of energy on stage while still executing the song effectively? Probably but they also might feel that Sulfur and Psychosocial can do it better. I mean who knows at the end of the day, but if i had to guess....

@@logancabianca5432 yeah but theres a couple reasons for that. 1. For a7x, it was best friend that died in an OD incident so the drums were kept as,close to the original as they could to pay tribute. 2. Its way easier to get rid of some guitar solos on a song than drums.

Slipknot is one of those bands that is so fucking good but "real metal" fans sleep on because of the theatrics and their association with nu-metal. Mick and Jim are some of the best guitarists working today. Mick straight up one-takes this track like it's nothing.

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing other bands live but the gimmicks and theatrics are what really pulled me in with Slipknot when I was younger and to this day is one of the main things I look for in new bands that come out over the years.
