When I was about 9 to 11 yrs my Dad bought me a 1/32 scale slot car track (if I remember correctly so long ago). our home was very small at the time, so my dad and I had mounted the track on a 3/4 inch piece of plywood placed hinges and mounted it on the wall so we could pivot the track up when I was not playing with it.... he made me a special wooden box to put my cars and gear in .. I had the most amazing Dad, he was my best friend, even to all my friends .. When Dad pass there was over 600 people that came to pay there respect.. so great full thanks dad and mom for this amazing life you let me have! .... thanks for the memories of slot car racing total clean fun. T PS: at 9 he did the work I only got in the way LOL :-).

I used to race slot cars 50+ years ago. Ended up lap record holder just before the club folded. Tuning fork chassis, group 20 anglewinder motor and a 24th scale lexan Mclaren M8D body using foam tyres and Tiger Juice for grip. Still got all my stuff and nowhere to use it.

wow I think youtube are mind readers but somehow this popped up. Brought back amazing memories of the old slot car tracks we used to race at as kids. We used to spend a lot of money and time at those places but were so fun. What beautiful drag race cars. For some reason I always remember we saved up to get these Orange tires , they were the best (on the course not sure of drag racing). LOL. All of our allowance went into our cars. Love this place. Thanks for the video.

Mid 60's my brothers and I got a four lane ho scale track that curved and circled a paper mountain (hill) at each end. As layed out all lanes evened out from start/end. Over a few years the staples that held the sections together broke to a point we couldn't make a whole track. We just made a straight dragstrip. My friend and I proceeded to mount it on plywood permanently. We each bought a couple cars that we altered gears, wheels, contacts and pegs for the slot. Last used mid 70's. These cars were just under 2 to 3 inches long. My best one was a 74 Grand Am as it was longest. On the complete course my 63 vette was best. He ran 240 Z and 75 Torino.

I have memories of playing around with some of this stuff, especially an HO scale. I upgraded the motor on my 32 Ford and I decided it was going to beat my model railroad that went around the outside of my raceway. I got to the crossing guard and the car got hung up and apparently I gave it a bit too much throttle. The engine got so hot and cold the slot car on fire. It died a slow painful death that day. It almost burnt down my entire lay out because the grass paper I had caught on fire too. Aaah the memories of being a kid again.

a little more than 40 years ago, I was a kid in Texas and there was this "you park it" storage lot next to the apartments I lived in. I would sneak in and break into the old Greyhound buses and school buses that were parked there. There was also this large, spooky warehouse, all rusted and scary looking. One day, I finally got the courage to go check it out. Inside the wareouse was a scene just like this, a bunch of dudes and an enormous race track. I of course had seen my share of tyco tracks, but I had never seen anything like this. It didn't click with me for one reason or another, so I never really got into the hobby, but I never forgot that moment of stumbling into a subculture. Cool video, you guys are awesome.

I was in High school in OKC. There was a lawnmower repaired shop that opened a drag track and I loved it. They slowly ran less and less though. I did get to meet a husband/ wife and there young son that would come up from TX. They had a well known chassis company and would even do body trimming from the molds they had. I wanna say DSR but I don’t remember. I’ve wanted to get back into it but it’s been about 3 decades and I just don’t have the body to travel long distances anymore. I’ve thought about building a home track but it just doesn’t sound very fun racing against myself.

Thanks for the video and the insight. ...I am still trying to process a lot of this; but I notice from my observations; a lot questions asked ; not just here but few advice; given the hands on approach you would think a lot of ppl would offer useful info; but you still have a few forums and ppl that are willing to help get into this. Slotforum ; Mick at Slot City Vegas or Scott at PCH ; the last General... who would help or talk about slot cars all day... Buzz Perry passed away in .....2021 , so it is the end of the Era in NYC. No more Buzz A Rama... no one fit to carry on his legacy and love of slot car racing.

@@IrateCitizen I wish there was a dragstrip or any place to race in NYC; none ; Buzz A Rama is closed; stepped in there in 1975 as a kid and fell in love with there. When from racing AFX to now 1/24 ; it broke my heart when I heard him and his wife passed away within days..... I have yet to meet anyone who was so compassionate about slot car racing and wanted the kids to pick up a hobby where you can actually touch something; built something vs the digital space. On a side note; where do these guys get these Top Fuel Dragster? I have been asking and it is like a secret that no one want to talk about or shed any light! I know DRS when out of business; and Parma....so I have no idea where you can get them to purchase! If you know ? Vs ppl saying here is a kit. When few if any have any idea about gear ratio or how to built one if you don't know.
