@@KNOTTYBUDS yes you can, you’d never stay on the track if you couldn’t tell where your car is.
@KNOTTYBUDS3 жыл бұрын
@@jimconsolazio9365 Its a "railed" track. The cars have slots on them where they go into the track so they don't fly off. That's what those lines are on it.
@holgerwacholder35813 жыл бұрын
@@KNOTTYBUDS yes its to guide the cars around, but you can obviously fly off...the reason why these can go at such a mad speed is because they are what is called "flexi cars" or "wing cars".. here its aerodynamics what keeps them in the slot...if you saw a race of normal slotcars that are scalemodels of whatever race series you might like nascar, touring cars, le mans racers etc than they would de-slot a whole lot faster...the slot really is a guide and by no means does it mean that you are not flying off...there is actually a bit of skill to it..sure everyone can learn it, but its not just pulling the trigger... Lets say in scale model racing its predominantly skill, and a certain part vehicle set up to get the faster times and consistency.. And in flexi cars its mostly set up, and skill maybe to a slightly lesser degree...
@KNOTTYBUDS3 жыл бұрын
@@holgerwacholder3581 Right, but the cars flying off has nothing to do with you watching them.

They're competing for the fastest lap time. You can see the old school pc monitors in front of the drivers, they see the timing data from those screens in real time. That's how they instantly knew who won :)

@@Miktai actually they are going for total laps, for most championships you are required to run on each lane for about two minutes and you get one to two minutes between lane changes.

@@unionrdr I can remember going to races like this to compete and the fun everyone (well almost everyone) had. One track I went to did an Endurance race to celebrate the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 hours of Daytona. The cars all had to be Group 10, 48 pitch, and run each lane for 15 minutes, talk about working to figure out the best gearing to keep a motor cool. 😵🤬😵🤬😵🤬

Almost 60 years here. I was blessed to be in the San Jose area (California) with a long wooden race track. I used to beg old and worn rails, motors, anything they were throwing out anyway. Soldered a lot of dragsters together, and launched quite a few across the room. This track is so fast I can’t see how you would enjoy running on it outside of practice laps.

I slowed this down to 25% speed and it appeared took take about 6 secs per lap, so in real time about 1.25 secs is the actual lap time. The track looks like it's maybe 30-40m long. Say 35. So these cars are doing something like 30m per second. Which is about 100 kph or 62 mph. The standard Scalextric car model scale is 1:32 which is apparently the global standard for slot car racing. So the speed of these cars to scale is approximately 3,200 kph or 1,988 mph. This is comparable with the fastest jet aircraft ever built, the Lockhead SR-71 Blackbird recon plane, which can reach 3,540 kph or 2,200 mph. You wouldn't see that if it flew over you house either.

These look comparable to what was called group 15 in my day. Possibly the even faster group 27 cars. I won the Division 1 GTP championship back in '97. Won every race but one! And I sneezed a motor that time. I also raced group 15 " thingy cars" like these as I called them back then as well. Came in 10th in the regionals as an independent that same year. I almost got hired to drive for Parma, but a certain driver bad mouthed me to them. He feared he was being replaced. I also won 14 regional concours championships with my realistic cars at the same time as well. Even had a tire sponsor for my son & I in Jan Limpach. 3-time world champion. Knew him for years. The owners started calling the Saturday GTP races, " The Lenny & Mikey Show" since we won all the time. I was very honored to be referred to that way. After the Can Am being called the " Bruce & Denny show" , since McLaren won so often. It took me 23 years to get that far, nickel & diming my way to the top. At 66, they live now...only in my memories...

They are 1/24th scale cars doing around 100kmh 60MPH which is around 2400KMH or 1600MPH scaled up
@jvebarnes5 жыл бұрын
@Bob Dobalina They are about the same size as a standard 12v motor you find in toys (about 1 1/4 inches long by 3/4 inch wide by 1/2 inch thick). Except these have extremely strong magnets and instead of a metal housing they have an alloy frame. Because they are so high performance the track voltage has to be just right as does the gearing or they burn out. The shine you see on the track is a mixture of white spirit and a gum substance so the cars stick in corners. At speed the clear sides fold out because of air pressure giving even more down force so it's a critical balancing act.

This is wild! I raced slot cars back in the early 60's, 55 years ago, and our cars moved like thick molasses compared to these modern ones. Can't imagine what technology they are using to reach such speeds, and, to keep them on the track. Even at our slow speeds, we were constantly crashing. This is amazing! How on earth do they even know which car is theirs. Incredible! :)

@undeadnoob6108 Жыл бұрын
When I was about 10 I had a cheap track and bad cars, so I directly attached the wires from the track to a plug wich made them run on 220v… made the cars at least 3 times faster. To be able to keep such a speed I had to removed the plastic roofing of the cars leaving just a thin piece of plastic with a motor and some wheels. Those were great times, played around with that for weeks on end with my twin brother.

I was a slot car racer in the 1960s. What was needed in slot car racing was the same thing that took place in actual real car racing: limitations on motors, controls, tires, etc. Over the decades an innovation made one car faster than the others and so to catch up and eventually go ahead, other innovations had to be found. The result after 50 years can be seen in the video. The same phenomenon took place in actual, real motor racing. Finally a limit was put on things. The only difference is that an absurdly fast slot car will not pose a danger to the driver.

My car fell into another slot while that guy was putting his back on the same slot. He hit the gas, not knowing my car was on his lane, and as I put my hand down to grab it it took off and a chassis wire stabbed right through my finger and out the other side by 25mm.

@drackkor725 Жыл бұрын
@@paulgoff5068 ? What are you talking about? The pick-up for conductivity to propel the electric motor has always been copper! This has always been done this way. What was changed is the positioning of the magnets to stick to the track. It's simple and basic do you understand now? Take a look at the underside of an old slot car compared to the new one. They took the challenge away just like the world dumbed down Nintendo games and made them easier. As a reference.

Omg, when I was around 10 years old I had a cheap one of those racing tracks, after playing a bit with it I removed the roofs of my cars and attached the electrical wires from the track directly to a plug wich tripled the speed of the cars, and them having no roof( basically made them flat with just the small electrical motor popping out) made them stay on the track while still going that fast.
