I just subscribed to your channel over the weekend. Just wanted to let you know that I watched many beef stew instructional videos but your method seems to be the best for a working mom! I prepped everything last night and a warm dinner was ready for me when I got home today. It was delicious! I added a bit extra beef broth since I didn't have any red wine on hand. I also made three extra bags to go into the freezer while I was at it so it's ready for next time. Thank you so much for sharing!

I like how you don't complicate your life in the kitchen :) Mexican recipes require a lot of time when it's all fully home made from scratch :) I'll make some if your quick recipes ;)
@arejaye8 жыл бұрын
+Angelica Espi If you have the ability and knowledge to cook from scratch, stay with it. It might seem to be more work at times, but it's healthier and something you can teach your children or grandchildren to do. People that REALLY know how to cook at home seem to be a dying breed, literally, with the likes of McDonalds and other fast "food" places, and all the stuff about Monsanto's use of pesticides and herbicides....you can NOT wash that stuff off even using a veggie brush because it's already IN the fruit or vegetables. Grow your own, even in containers if you don't have space for a small garden, and grow most of your herbs in a window sill, and know how, and know where your food comes from and what's in it, and more even what's NOT in it! Just knowing that will make the food taste better! ;)

i find that half of crock pot beef stew recipes want you to pre-brown the beef and some of the veggies. i'm single, i'm just starting to crock pot cook and i work 12 hour shifts. so i figure i'd do something like this. today i bought about 4 pounds of roast meat, cut it into cubes, and wrapped them in aluminum foil (8 servings) and froze them. i figure i can cut the veggies in a couple minutes when i wake up, throw everything in the crock pot and cook it on low for 13 hours and have a nice stew when i get home from work. your idea seems quite logical, so i'll try a hybrid of it with frozen meat and fresh veggies :)

Heat activates cornstarch so you should mix it with cold water not hot :) Try it out next time
@weelicious10 жыл бұрын
It heats up in the slow cooker!
@OMGshinyobject10 жыл бұрын
Weelicious I was referring to your comment at 3:10 "when you do this make sure you do it in HOT beef broth" Try mixing it into cold water to dissolve the cornstarch and you won't even need to use a whisk or anything because when you use hot liquid its activating before it dissolves which makes it lumpy and difficult to mix. I'm not saying you're wrong I'm just saying its much easier to mix cornstarch into cold liquids then add them directly into the slow cooker.. saves you dirtying a whisk!

+Don't Worry Just an idea. Buy a timer for your wall outlet, and set it to turn off at the time of cooking is done. Or even before that. If your dish takes 5 hours to cook, set the timer to stop at 4 or 4 and a half hours.. Buy the three prong one. They are about $20.00. I hope this helps..

Here's an idea when I make my pot roast I make and season it at night-time and leave it on during the night while I'm sleeping so by 7/8 in the morning its always someone up turn it off I keep it on low also. I love this idea so once everyone is home from work or school all you have to do is heat up the food. #Crockpot #MealsMadeSimple Hope this helps with your worries

@wakemybones10 жыл бұрын
it shouldnt be a problem for kids cos when the red wine meets the heat while cooking, the alcohol will evaporate leaving behind only the aroma.

i haven't tried this specific recipe but i have tried cooking beef in a slow cooker without browning it first... it did not taste good at all. just like boiled meat. yuck.
@arejaye8 жыл бұрын
+naazyousaf True. And then you find yourself trying just about anything to bring or add some beef flavor back to what's otherwise, as you said, just like boiled meat. Yuck isn't the word I'd use, but suffice it to say, it's more the language Gordon Ramsey would use in the non-watered down version of his shows done in the UK.. You could easily brown it first before freezing it IF it's only going to be frozen overnight or a few days at the most, and in a proper slider ziplock freezer bag(if you plan on storing it longer, I'd suggest putting the freezer bag in a mylar bag, get all the air out and seal it well), and you could do it while you're slicing the veggies and opening the can of tomatoes that are anything but FRESH as her logo says..."Fast, Fresh and Easy" How hard is it to dice up fresh organic tomatoes and avoid the BPA that lines the can, and increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes and obesity, which we know in itself is a health hazard? In one study over 2k people were tested for measurable levels of BPA, and 93% of them did, including some as young as 6 years old! Cook wise, eat well AND healthy. I've cooked for a living for years..many years and I found this video and recipe to be more "fast food" at home, not very healthy(because of the canned tomatoes) nor "fresh", again because of the canned tomatoes. Use tomatoes from a jar if you can find 'em, or just learn to blanche 'em and peel 'em. For this recipe it would've taken about 15 minutes including getting the water to a boil, then putting the tomatoes in for 30-45 seconds, then in a bowl of ice/icewater to stop the cooking process. To peel on takes about 15 second tops, and they're still firm enough for dicing. This comes in handy too for making your own tomato sauce, paste or whatever, even your own ketchup. How many people can say they do that? Not many because we've become LAZY, and it seems that cutting corners on the food your body depends on makes you a "star" on KZbin. Everybody can't be a chef, that's obvious, but it's easy to READ, learn and practice how to cook meals that don't just taste good but are good for you, and you'll notice the difference between a "fast food meal" vs a "slow cooked", well thought out meal using the exact same basic ingredients with no cutting corners.The best thing I got from this vid was that she used venison instead of store bought, factory farmed beef that's full of junk too and unhealthy, but yet some feed it their kids everyday, even the ones still in the womb, then we wonder why there are so many childhood diseases that a couple decades ago, we rarely heard much about. And not at you specifically, but people need to learn to read the label of ingredients. My rule of thumb is, if I can't pronounce even one(or already know how bad it is), I don't buy it and give the giant chemical companies like Monsanto, Dow and others more money to poison our food system.
