To give it a slight smoke flavor, you can brush the ribs with liquid smoke and then top off your seasoning and BBQ sauce. A good seasoning is coarse salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. If you like your ribs sweet. You can add in some brown sugar.

Use your imagination. Different people like different things. I think she was trying to make a really short "short." I would use Kinder's garlic salt, a little cumin, and some onion powder but the possibilities are endless. You could even buy a prepackaged season packet.
