Honestly disappointed its not aaron again, he was such a good drummer, always knew where to go with the intensity.
@ChizM2 жыл бұрын
aaron? and yeah during the 2019 tour aaron broke down this song so all you could hear was john soloing, remember johns promoting an album this tour so hes speeding through this song just like he did on the 2017 album tour.

What in the world is going on in the rhythm section, especially the drums? I noticed it already in Last Train Home from the same gig. I don't think it's Pino, some weird delay/reverb on the snare?
@donnav71032 жыл бұрын
New drummer.
@rkphighroller2 жыл бұрын
I went back and listened and yeah there is way too much reverb on that snare, you’re right. I think it may have been on purpose to fill space for this song but the drumming has sounded a little off in each video I’ve seen on this tour. I miss Steve J!

It’s the acoustics of the room catching the sound snapping back. It probably sounds great in the room. But it gets recorded oddly.

Drums definitely need more dynamics, especially when he's pulling his outro solo - nothing has changed in drummer's playing. I miss Stevie Jordan :D
@ajs29732 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was just about to point this out too lmao. I think aaron sterling from his 2019 tour was the best drummer for this song imo (I was at that one 🤗)
@weilunliu65762 жыл бұрын
I think they are focusing on new songs and didn’t put too much effort to rehearse this one. If you listen to outro for shot in the dark, the drum has more dynamics.
@potatochicko2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think it's an interesting choice that he's not having the whole band ramp it up toward the beginning of the outro solo - kinda sounds like the momentum of the song is lost. But I'm sure johns ear is getting tired of playing this song so he's changing it up
@Kirabax2 жыл бұрын
@@weilunliu6576 yeah, agreed. Well i think they will going to work this out a bit in the future, thats only the second gig of the tour :)

One can’t deny that using PRS had made JM’s live game much better, cleaner, and warmer. I’m nostalgic about the Fender Black1 live but he does sound better in the PRS. He seems to be playing D&Co style but keeping true to the core.
@derred7232 жыл бұрын
I'd 1000% disagree. Personally i prefer the tone of his strats by some distance. There are moments the the PRS is fine but others where to me it sounds harsher to me and not as lush and warm. But that's me.
@chie17092 жыл бұрын
I’d say I’m a fender fan myself. I actually think the dirt that comes out of the Black1 is what gave character to Continuum and even Heavier Things. But I think JM has fully moved on and embraced the Silversky on Continuum songs. To my disappointment, Ofcourse. But between his 2010s performance and now, he’s a lot cleaner sounding.

That kind of Knopfler finger picking at 4:38 is really cool and fairly new in John’s arsenal I think, but he’s really damn good at it. Such natural talent, music just flows out of this man.

i miss the john mayer when he played more melodic solos. Compare where the light the light is with this one, WTLI's solo has better phrasing, more melodic, dynamics and the solo sounded like a continuation of the song. This one sounds fragmented and there seems to be no motives and resolutions. It sounds like random jamming up to the point where he returned to the main riff. not saying that this is a bad solo. But i'd take WTLI solo over this every day of the week. Probably just different tastes

i mean wtli is probably his best solo/ live performance ever so you gotta relax, gotta realize there’s been hundreds of shows including this one that will not compare to it
@s4mcote2 жыл бұрын
I think WTLI was meant to be a live performance that sounded like a studio recording, at least that’s the way I look at it. I don’t think the solo for Slow Dancing on Where The Light Is was improvised, John must have written it before the recording took place. If not, props to him. Personnally, that’s the main reason why I love John Mayer so much, the jamming, the improvisation, just watching him get lost in the moment and demonstrate his capabilities. But then again, I’m a guitar player so I love that stuff. Like you said, probably just different tastes. 🙂
