We need slow flight practice in order to learn how ailerons become less effective and therefore rudder becomes more important when slow. Elevator and rudder get full advantage of prop blast and we have to have more power to sustain flight with a high pitch attitude. I teach instructors at the l😂ocal school the even more effective slow flight practice in what I call hover taxi. Students get too little experience of flight at slower than Vso, an out of ground effect airspeed. On long runways coming into the flair and slower than Vso in low ground effect, add enough power to remain in low ground effect. Power is our glide angle and rate of descent control on approach, but dynamic throttle is harder to manage in ground effect. Work the elevator for/aft dynamically and proactively to bracket level in low ground effect. At this slower than Vso airspeed, simply closing the throttle will safely allow turn off at the desired intersection.
