Yeah, Joe, it is a concern with some of our "Experienced" riders that we hang out with. Still walking the bike around on 30' u-turns. And never want to attend practice sessions. Thanks for watching I appreciate it.

I will use this in my battle of 100% U-Turn LOL. I have a 50/50 ratio when it comes to U-Turns. And it doesn't help that i haven't practiced in a while. As always thanks for the knowledge, this is good KZbin.

I’m glad I found you on here. Apparently I suck and I’ve been riding for over 25 years lol. But between you and Robert Simmons I’m really learning a lot. I ride in both 1st and 2nd when riding slow. You are correct it really does depend on the bike . My bike has low rev assist and will go without any throttle at slow speed. (GSX S 1000). It will only do this in 1st. Nice topic mate.

Thanks dear. Rode a scooter with gears on left hand but 21 years ago, although from 1984 to 2003 in India. Been driving a manual car though but now getting my overseas motorcycle license converted and have passed compulsory 2 days Learner’s Course in Australia, knowledge test, range & road test etc. Now going for License Assessment. Although I know I shall manage a motorcycle in slow speed but a test is test. I have little to No experience in foot gears. Have done some test rides on bikes but the first time I drove a motorcycle on range and on road, I easily took Suzuki GSX125 to 5-6th gear on roads of 50-60-70 kmph limits. I finished slow ride in 15 seconds against the minimum 10 to pass. Yes, you are right that it depends on the machine. So, in a test situation, I think I shall ask the instructor and go from there, 1st gear being the thumb rule 😊

Excellent video. I find 1st gear pretty useless on the Goldwing for regular riding, so by habit I've been trying to master the zone in 2nd. I see now that it can be as smooth (maybe smoother) in 1st. I'll keep at it. Thanks, Ian

On my 2007 wing 1st gear is low, so I used 2nd. 2018 1st isn’t as jumpy. Having 3 different bikes I have to give myself a few minutes in the neighborhood to make the muscle memory work 😂

Always great advice Rich. Especially turning your head to where you want to go. I've been using 1st gear with my GL1800 for years. Can never have enough practice with these tight u-turns and circles. I have to say however that this maneuver is much easier for me with the Henry Final Drive. Someday when, "I won't say if" we get together with 2Wheel4Fun your welcome to try it out. @@BootsandJeansRiders Yes Rich. Installation is quite straight forward. I have installed a couple now. However it is quicker if one has a spare stock final drive to send in as a core. This way the bike will only be down for a couple hours for R+R. Otherwise with shipping and waiting in line, the delay could be a couple months. What I did was call Henry. He had one ready and I drove down to his shop and made the trade. His shop is only an hour or so from me. Like I told 2Wheel4Fun... we can make it happen! 👍 Same deal for you. Corventure Dave

For me and my bike, 1000cc twin adv bike, its almost always second gear. First is just too low, second is almost too high but riding the clutch is so much smoother than trying to smoothly manipulate the throttle in 1st. Riding high RPM's going 15mph just feels wrong
