Hi Robert, this is the series I’ve been waiting for. I own a 2021 Breakout and slow and tight turns don’t come easy to me. Here in Switzerland we have a lot of those, and because it’s hilly, some of the curves are going up or down, which make it even harder (for me at least) to do a controlled tight turn, especially if the road goes down. I look forward to the continuation of this series. Your Breakout is beautiful. Thanks for your videos.

Hi Robert, thank you so much for making this series! I have a 2014 V-Rod Muscle, and honestly it's silhouette is nearly identical to the breakout. 240 rear tire, same front rake, riding position, etc. It's my first bike. It makes me nervous doing slow speed stuff. Watching this and practising gives me confidence. Much appreciated! Subscribed :)

Hi Robert, I’m 69 in the UK and have ridden old Lambrettas since I was 16 but 2 years ago I restored an old Honda goldwing and started watching your videos for tips and learned a lot from them. I also use the same things when riding my little 1962 lambretta, it’s the same principle but with less power. Anyway thanks for the helpful videos 😀👍

Aloha Robert! Just wanted to share that I was recently in Maui and rented a Sportster, light, forward controls and Errol guided me onto rural roads to re-acclimate to a much smaller ride than I have become accustomed to over the last 13 years. Because I have been watching your channel since you decided to start it, I was able to claim my 49th U.S. State to ride a motorcycle in, working on all 50. Mahalo for all your content and the dedication to teach us to learn "Boss" while riding.

Thank you so much for this series, I bought a 2015 Victory Magnum, this thing is heavy and it scares me, it's been sitting for the past 4 months and I didn't even put 100 feet on it because I dropped few times, everyone tells me that it's a huge mistake to buy a heavy bagger like that when you just passed basic training course and got your driver's license. You gave me confidence, I don't care if I drop it now I'm calling my brother to come help me pick it up if I did, I'm a combat wounded Marine, a disabled veteran and when this falls down my wife can pick it up and I can't but I love riding, I know it's pity but I'm not ashamed anymore. I'm heading out to ride it and follow your exercises as much as I can.
@Timberns
@Timberns Жыл бұрын
Trust and believe I had the same issues with my first heavy bike… Keep it in parking lots until you build your confidence … you’ll get there sooner than you think and you’ll look back in a short while and be amused that you were ever intimidated by something that comes so natural to you now. Robert’s exercises helped me tremendously I didn’t even own a four wheel vehicle for several years… I had only my 650… And STILL my first heavy bike kicked on my ass some

@@MrUNCLESAM84 And I will just add… The magic is in mastering the pre load/ rear brake balance. Slow speed maneuvering is everything… Any fool can haul ass. Dragging the rear brake helps you turn while the preloaded throttle stands you up and don’t worry about pitting one against the other… Brake pads are cheap and easy to replace and clutch friction plates ain’t a big deal either. They both last longer than you’d think they would. Certainly cheaper and quicker to change than chrome pieces and injury recovery time. Trust and believe and preload… And don’t be afraid to spend time in parking lots improving your skills even once you’re comfortable that you’re proficient … I think it’s fun Is this your first bike?
@MrUNCLESAM84
@MrUNCLESAM84 Жыл бұрын
@@Timberns yes it is my first bike, I got it really cheap and super low miles, only 6000 miles, looks almost in mint condition and to be honest I love how it looks, I bought it from my neighbor, it belonged to her father who passed away, magnum red over steel grey plus plenty of add ons and accessories also he kept all the oem parts. I paid only $3000 for it. I thought I would learn how to ride this one before buying an expensive Harley Davidson but the more I look at it I'm falling in love with it and I'm afraid that I would damage it, it has crash bars, skid plates and saddle bags guards though. You're right I should be able to do everything you're saying, I believe once I develop the muscle memory it should be easy but the thing is that I have this fear from damaging the bike especially when I knew that they don't make them anymore. I'm sorry if I wasted your time but I am very appreciative for your advices.
@Timberns
@Timberns Жыл бұрын
@@MrUNCLESAM84 No way I’d trade that Magnum for a Harley… I’ve always been one of those Harley snobs… Meaning I love the americaness of it but since im not getting ready to pledge to any biker gang… My poser works just fine. That Victory is a beautiful bike and is as American as any Harley or Indian ever was and AMF never manufactured any of them. lol A while back I bought a non running 98 Suzuki 1500 off marketplace for $500 with plans to flip it but it looked and sounded so good once I got it restored that I couldn’t bring myself to part with it. The real problem being that if I went to a dealership and custom ordered a bike it would have all the exact features of this bike. Except the color… I would have gone with red or burgundy but this one is gloss black… Still looks good with all that chrome. Zero badging so even Harley owners are sometimes fooled by its appearance… With a fat boy stance… I love it even if it is a poser. And truth be known… Harley engineers don’t have nothing on the Japanese And since unsolicited advice is my thang… A few things I learned the hard way but managed to survive… Wet blind curves on a hot sunny day because somebody was washing their car Bumble bees hit stinger first so always wear some form of face shield Road paint is slick as hell and deadly when wet Careful with the front brake at intersections because that’s where cars drip most of their oil Anything that moves can kill you and that includes dogs, cats, birds, and blowing debris Stop signs and stoplights will not protect you even a little bit 9 out of 10 drivers can’t see you and the tenth one is trying to kill you… Ride accordingly Any loose material on the pavement is dangerous… make sure you’re not turning when you hit it Dump trucks… even covered ones… Will sandblast you and your bike What’s going on behind you is as important as what’s happening in front of you There’s nothing more enjoyable than getting in the wind but you gotta keep your head on a swivel… always have an escape plan and be prepared for the unexpected… It’s a little like Frogger but you’ll soon get accustomed to seeing everything. But your #1 job is making it home to your family….#2 job… Keeping that bike beautiful

Rob, Great explanation about the differences in handling based on motorcycle geometry. I have had every kind of motorcycles in my classes. When people tell me their motorcycle isn’t capable of doing the exercises, I tell them it can. Of course the very next question is if I can ride their motorcycle through the course. I tell them I can and after I do, they see it is about them and not the motorcycle. The good news is they can learn how to do it if they will be committed to learn the proper techniques.

I’ve never practiced on anything but a 2008 Dyna Low Rider which has the same overall length as this bike. The rake is 29 degrees compared to 34 on this bike but more than a 26 degree rake on a bagger. The handle bars don’t turn very far and a wider tire is on the back. My controls are mid which work great because I’m shorter. I’m able to do 18’ consistently to the left and about 18-22’ to the right. You mentioned on one of your older videos to keep it preloaded but pull the clutch in at start of turn which helps a lot in getting the bars to turn quicker. It is nice to learn, from this video, why it was frustrating and seemed to take so long to master on my type of bike compared to a bagger. No one else has a video on this style of bike. Thanks!

Developing good habits through practicing proper technique. I have less than 2000 miles riding and I can tell you, Robert, I hear you saying," Keep it loaded, rear brake only." when I get her down to 10-15mph. Every time I have to come to a stop, then go again, or crawling in slow traffic, I do this exercise and challenge myself to do it better than the time before. Add good positioning for escape and watching your six while staying in 1st gear, that's my practice every time I get on the bike at a minimum. I still have a ways to go on the rest, but the way you express clutch, throttle, and brake use, is the best and most understandable way of doing it and it really has stuck with me. Took a test ride on a 2023 Road King Special last Sat. and man, I caught myself slightly dipper her left while stopping and everything you said here I had running though my head, a little slip in that left foot and down you go with 803lbs of bike pulling you to the ground. Not used to floorboards and forward controls, but man that Road King Special is super smooth and comfortable and that 114 can really boogie with all that low rpm torque. That said, I'd never take one of those or any bike out on the road before going through all the low speed exercises for a few minutes to gauge the proper feel and response of the motorcycle first. I ran her in the back lot on the HD BRC course for a few minutes first, then around the block. I left with the knowledge that I could become very comfortable on that bike only through lots of practice doing what you teach on that bike. Thanks for the lesson I learned on my first bagger ride, kept me from getting hurt and at the same time I do not fear that 803lb machine and know I can end up enjoying one of those safely for a lifetime.

I'm so sorry, I hate to be the one to say this, I have watched many of your videos and all are very informative and I thank you for putting this information out there but in my humble opinion they are just to darn long. Most over an hour. Don't get me wrong they are getting shorter, this one for instance is 18 mins long, however you didnt start the bike for 14 of those 18 mins. People with the best of intentions won't watch long videos, or shorter ones that is all talk less action. Again it's not intention to be mean, anyone trying to makes us better riders and for free is A OK in my book. Just an observation
