I was living in London back in 1991, and the "shoegazing scène" was just blooming with "MBV", "RIDE", "SLOWDIVE" "CHAPTERHOUSE", "LUSH"...But I didn't have the opportunity to see SLOWDIVE playing live. Soon, they will play in Nîmes (South of France), less than 50 km from where I live...So I am thinking to go to their gig...The last few days, I have been listening their whole discography, and some "MOJAVE 3" albums as well...I still find their music so exciting. More than 20 years went on, but it seems yesterday to me !!!

+Quixo667 you should get to know both Moose and Chapterhouse, they were both at the same level of Slowdive, especially their early singles. Chapterhouse were the headliners of the night, not Slowdive, they were selling much more than Slowdive when they came out. Moose were one of my favourite group those days, I thought they would have become huge, but they failed... I first saw MBV in 1988 (?), possibly in the Creation Records "Doing it for the Kids" Festival in Camden Town (not sure it was that, so many years ago...), then I saw them again at London ULU a year after or so. Never liked them live, you could only hear a lot of noise and feedback, nothing more... but still think Loveless is one of the best album I ever listened to in my life.

In 1991 I went to see a band called Chapterhouse, with one support band. Chapterhouse were OK, but the support was incredibly good, fanatstic in fact. That band was Slowdive. And they still sound great.

Slowdive are good and is the band everyone feels obligated to name drop and rave about, but Chaoterhouse was an amazing band. The opening track on Whirlpool is perhaps the best shoegaze/dreampop album opener ever...

hands down the best version of this song ive ever heard. haven't seen them live tho. they did play here but i couldnt afford it at the time :( i was also nervous seeing mbv the year before would have spoiled them but i doubt it. they are 2 different bands who happen to be clustered together because of their larger than life sounds. i figure slowdive has less of a deafness risk though :P

Shame that this dreamy, artistic sound faded away with the advent of britpop. People obviously longed for more down to earth music with catchy riffs and lucid vocals. Good that it has had a minor revival in recent years though e.g. Soundpool, M83, Ulrich Schnauss etc. Anyway, beautiful track from one of my favourite shoegaze bands. Rachel Goswell is a goddess!
