To the youth: You are not alone. I've been reflecting on my childhood and teenage years a lot lately. Most of it I spent alone, roaming beaches at night listening to music. Reflecting on friends Iost to tragedy in my small neighborhood. Life is but a brief sparkle; we will all be dead for a very long time. I urge you to please make beauty in THIS moment. Right here. Right now. It is never too late. There are no mistakes; only lessons. One love. Stay up, stay strong. We will all create a brighter world together if we choose love over fear.

@Лоло Козлов Not on Spotify because it was never released by the band. This was part of their second album "Hide Your Eyes", the entirety of which was never released because the owner of their record label didn't like it. I understood that the most you can do under the music videos you like is express your emotions, your memory and try to have your say. If you see a comment you like. Then sometimes a pleasant exchange of views and anecdotes takes place. On a practical level this is a great help. Be open and polite, welcoming. Then he is rewarded.

I remember finding this song 2 years ago. It was on 11/23/2021, during the beginning of my senior year in high school. Today, as I'm writing this, it is 11/13/2023, at 12:37 AM, and I'm in my sophomore year of college. I know the exact date of when I found this song, because I found a comment by Igor Araujo and the replies discussed the meaning of the word "sonder", which really resonated with me, and I took a screenshot of it. I happened to find this song during one of the worst times in my life. I was dealing with really bad health problems from September 2021 to March 2022. I woke up everyday wishing I was dead. However, I had a lot of songs that I used to listen to during this time that really helped me get through it, and "Sleep" was one of them. I had never heard of Slowdive before, but I think this was the perfect introduction for me. I carry so much pain, joy, grief, love, anger, happiness, frustration, and bliss in this one song. It seriously has gotten me through so much. I continued pushing through my health issues, as much as it hurt, and somehow managed to pull off being 2nd in my class of 300, in spite of my health struggles. I still remember delivering my graduation speech, and when I went home, this song was one of the first that I immediately listened to. I had taken off my graduation gown and cap, and all I was wearing was my maroon suit. I walked out onto my front porch, put my earbuds in, the very same earbuds that I had relied on to keep me company throughout all of my struggles that year, and I started listening to some of the most impactful songs of my senior year. When this song came on, I looked up at the sky and just got lost in all of the memories of that year. All of the pain and struggle. All of the love and hate. And of the all happiness. I won't ever forget my friends who I made so many unforgettable memories with that year, despite not having spoken to most of them ever since I graduated. I don't really listen to this song anymore, since I like to leave songs in the past after I've moved onto a new era in my life. But every time I listen to this song, I can't help but get emotional from all of the things that this song carries for me.

I don’t know you, and I’m incredibly unlikely to ever meet you, but your comment gave me hope. Ah, the sounds of teenagers jumping into adulthood. The melancholy, the depression, the sadness of not being a kid anymore and having so much responsibilities. Everything changed and everything was different. The old you is no more. Struggling to find the big questions in life. It's either you jump in to the ship of existential crisis or you stay distracting yourself with drugs, drinks and social life. Despite these confusions, you got through. "i don't plan on reaching 25." we were talking about this with our friends once. we were sitting on the sidewalk (we were extras for a show, there's a lot of waiting in one spot in that industry) and a lady told us to get up, so we wouldn't get sick and damage our organs. we got up and kinda laughed - "haha, not like i care. i don't plan on reaching 20." a man behind us chuckled and said that he had that thought too once, and now he's 50. it really shifted my view of the whole thing. there's always something that's going to happen, when you're 16, 17, 18, 19, 20. there is always going to be something happening. it may feel like time is still but there are things happening, all the time. i promise it will be good.

do you ever look at strangers smiling or dancing or having fun and think "i love you"? or see someone bop their heads along with the music from their headphones and you just wish you could tell them how pretty they look doing just that? or feel your heart warm when you watch someone laugh really loudly and then think about them later that day, completely randomly? you're a part of that, too. someone has kept quiet about how beautiful you are to them, has smiled at the thought of this complete stranger that made their day, has repeated a joke you made to someone they love, there's a lot of quiet love and admiration and connection in this world and even if you think you don't belong, you've always been and always will be a part of it.

I know that Slowdive have been recording a new album recently, and with 2023 being the 30th anniversary of Souvlaki I pray that we'll get a new deluxe version with remasters of all the unreleased songs from that era (of which this is one of them). They recently played this song live so the band definitely knows full well how much their fans love the unreleased shit and want to see an official release.

i found this song at 15 three years ago. now that im formally an adult, i can say my life didn't change much YET. my main entertainment source is still a wander through the wilderness in my area, as it was back then. well, i found someone with whom we make music like this, so i can admit that one of my dreams came true (i even managed to write a song with the same transcendal feel to it). yet not someone that i can be really close to. but that's fine. if this is the best i can, i'm buying it. i'm gonna pretty much enjoy it until i go to college, only then my life will turn upside down

Yesterday I turned 39 and in that moment I realized just how many things I've missed out on due to my mistakes...I missed out on a happy life, I had good friends as a teen but one day I started doing drugs due to high levels of depression from losing my three best friends to an accident after my best friends died a big piece of me also went with them, after that day I never tried to make new friends, and that was my mistake now I'm going on 40 years old with no friends or even new good memories. My good memories stopped when I was 20 after my friends died, Instead of making new friends I chose to cope by sinking into a very long drug addiction. Although I'm proud of being sober for 6 years, due to all my drug use pushing people away I now have no one to share my sober years with. And hey, you might even meet people your age, dont waste the opportunity and ALWAYS go for it. Unlike what most people think, I don’t find this song painful at all. It does remind me how big of a disappointment my life has been, but not in a sad way. I know that those years are gone and all I have now is a free, non-perfect, easy life. I don’t have to make this an ideal, full of achievements and flawless journey, I’ve already lost my chance on that. Now I can just relax, wait for my days and have an insignificant life full of pleasure. There are no responsibilities to fulfill, no goals to be reached. See whatever it brings and go with it from here, you can only do too well by this point. I love this song, it makes me feel safe.
@yoshikazu15712 жыл бұрын
I think this is even sadder. In history whenever a nation wins so much that it stops focusing on developing and switches to pleasure, everything crumbles. Wars break out, people starve, crime happens more often. In this age we have so many of our needs covered that there is no drive to get anything else. I personally don't think happiness is the goal at all and it should be a side effect of doing the right things. Strong people create good times, good times creat weak people, weak people create hard times repeat. That is all of history right there and only the winners write it.
@pabloasrin22112 жыл бұрын
@@yoshikazu1571 The winners become losers. Destruction precedes creation. All empire's are destined to fall and death it's only sad from a limited perspective. From a logical perspective is the paradoxical beautiful tragic comic dance of existence. We are just a part of the universe but every little part of the universe IS the universe because it's fractal. Every single apparantly insignificant life is necessary for the whole to exist and keep moving. I guess even sadness is necessary but fortunately there is more to it than that.
@yoshikazu15712 жыл бұрын
@@pabloasrin2211 I definitely agree with you here. There is always more to life than simply happiness and sadness. I believe in outliers however. There are those that realize the patterns and see the a deeper meaning, adapting to the constant change of the world through reflection and action. I think we are all equally and infinitley ingorant to our ingnorance the further we zoom out. But to those with a strong reason try to repeatedly humble themselves to learn to tear down the ego and question their own paradigms. I think these are the kind of people that make truly awe worthy things. To churn against nature by going in a polar opposite direction. Reverse engineered and remixing different approaches to life to get different results. Yet still nothing is new under the sun. So it will never be what we make but what experince we leave behind that mattered. Frankly most people now are not in thier own lives as in they are not mindful to things happening right now around them including me at times. We are wired to constantly solve problems, yet now there is so much information we can get lost in the fog of it all. So being mindful, present, reflecting, writing, and gratitude will bring us a long way in todays world.

My god I read many comments and I had no idea how sad some of you young ones are today! I am 70 and have gone through ups and downs like many people but never gave up. Never give up. I don't know what the answer is but if you are lonely try and find like minded people. If you have interests in life it helps. For instance if you like photography then find yourself a group and go to meetings and outings with them. Or whatever you like. Having a hobby or special interest helps you have a connection with others and the rest comes. I don't want to make it sound like its simple because I have no idea what all your lives are like but it reminds me of myself when I was that age and everything seemed intense and insurmountable. If life weighs down to the point of feeling hopeless please seek professional help. So hard to give advise in writing. It is much better to be in person. But one thing you all should see is that reading many of the comments you are not alone in feeling this way so it is very normal. You just may be more sensitive than others and that is a great quality. Learn to enjoy the simple things in life. I could go on and on but who am I to give advise. Just give yourself a break and love who you are. May you find what you need. Oh yes and help others, the world needs that.

I hope you will have everything great. Remember, you are not alone in this damn world. We are scattered all over the world - a whole bunch of teenagers who need attention, understanding, support, and if we don't get it from our parents, then we always we can get all this from people like ourselves. You just need to write on the Internet / tell your friends or acquaintances. We need to share experiences and emotions, and then it will be much easier to live. If you did not grasp the main idea of the text, you saw a bunch of unrelated words or something like that, excuse me. I just translated this text using Google translator, which, as you know, does not always work well with large amounts of text. The depictions of the teenage years cracking into pieces of shattered glass turning into a lost and scattered life of adulthood seem the opposite of the wonderfully rich and warm yet distant feeling this song radiates. Like a candle in a far distance in the cold of the winter. The frost will bite at your skin and painfully so, but the candle can appear as two paths for those who see it. A small and minuscule glimmer in a rather bleak and heavy place, providing no heat as it taunts you. Or the shining humble beacon in the night sky, lighting a path of hope as a possible warming comfort. It can light up your surroundings if you choose to see the spark it provides.
