4 years later - Still hope you guys are doing well in these crazy times. May you be blessed - I cannot thank you enough for these videos. Have a chance to put an 1980 K10 back on the road and I know these videos will be a great resource. Real people working on their own stuff. Gonna get me some corn dogs and watch ALL the videos. Thank you again!!

great video as always. I really enjoy how you don't edit out some of the struggles you encounter. It adds a sense of reality to the videos that seem to be removed from today's how-tos. thanks for the video, these video series should help me down the road big time. God bless and keep em coming!

Good job. I heard the boss in the background but I didn't see him. He must have been busy. In part one I mentioned a couple of otc pullers so you or viewers could check them out if wanted or needed. Definitely not to criticize. You show getting it without them which is great. Not everyone can have every tool and I certainly don't. I've stressed over pullers and not finding them kept me from trying a transmission. The first thing I found was posilock which looked great but was around 400 dollars. Not doing it every day caused me to look for a cheaper option. I think good video and good job

Great Video. My SM465 with 40k on a rebuild just seized the 1st gear to the mainshaft. (( I was towing and weighed in at 17k. I've hauled alot of stuff; horse trailers, tracked machines, scrap, etc. Im still disappointed that it happened. Looking at your video (before I rip my tranny off and apart) I wonder how that bushing gets oil??? It seems sealed by a thrust washer and the gear, no grooves, etc.

Great effort and very informative Thank you Sir! PS snap rings can be projectiles and the little guys around you when you load them is not a good mix.I bought a cheap press and pressed bearings in a toyota with my 25 ear old son and 1 of the snap rings took off to the moon! The press is not of quality and we ended up building a cage around it to keep the next generation safe! Thank you again!

I pulled my 465 out of a parts truck (1 ton Chevy mason dump, municipal plow truck and sander, w/454.) The 10 spline input shaft is visually twisted, I can't believe the clutch didn't hang up. Should I fear anything inside the box? Most likely damage to look for, given the obvious abuse. It shifts through the gears and feels good on the bench
@GebBuilt
@GebBuilt 5 жыл бұрын
Almon Jacob there is a decent chance that the input shaft is the only damage. I would open it up and make a good visual inspection and replace the shaft of course. Great question, thank you. God bless!

Another great sm465 video! Did you find a shop manual? What is the best one to get?

+Zach Arnold I had access to the GM manuals for these trucks and components. I believe you can still get them from dealerships.

Is it normal for the 4th gear on the counter shaft to not need to be pressed off? Doing a rebuild on 2 and they both slide on/off. I believe they are both from 1972 trucks

Where did you find a booklet for your SM465... i need to find one for a NV4500... having trouble with 1st and 2nd... thank you ... very informative videos

I used two GM books. One was the 81-87 GM pickup service manual and the other was a GM unit repair manual which covered many older drivetrains. I was fortunate to be able to borrow them from my uncle, but I do know that some public libraries carry good material too. I hope this helps and thank you for asking! Have a great time with your project and God bless!

Hey man these vids are very helpful, but I have mine on the bench now. do you know if my shaft bearings are supposed to slide in and out freely? I haven't tooken anything apart yet and they already move as on yours you had to use a puller for your. Is my housing screwed?

Why didnt you buff off the crud off the gear the slider goes over? looked dirty? I've had a NP 435, and a T-18 which are both good boxes but the Synchro Mesh 465 is the better box to me.

what snap ring pliers are you using? Or what ones do you recommend? I need a new set before I attempt rebuild on mine.
@GebBuilt
@GebBuilt 5 жыл бұрын
cooperc240 great question. I don’t skimp on snap ring pliers - they are one tool that the big names mean better quality. I absolutely love my MAC set of reversible snap ring pliers and also their large flat pair which is what I used most here. I can look when I get home to see the part number if it is still visible. Thank you for asking, God bless!
