Very cool. I was dying watching the new one lag behind on the star count, but knocking out that invisible cap early on will probably save all the pillar time and such later. Fun stuff! Hyped to see this as it progresses

Something worth noting: My upload of the 120 WIP was done via screen-recording (as it was a late idea for MKDasher & Cheese' stream) rather than proper, exact encoding (which would've taken me too long to do), so it's possible the video may skip or lag a handful of frames, making the timing slightly inexact. Not sure how much it matters especially compared to the several seconds saved in the run, but yeah thought I'd mention it

The exit after DW reds, is that because you're planning on doing the 1-key skip into the moat door later on? How much time does that save over just fighting Bowser? You're already at the entrance to the fight after all.

That first PSS star worries me as it's nearly a second slower than the previous TAS, and the second star saves .1 anyway, so why not do that for the first star?

When the star is spawning if the y-value is greater than 3700, the bouncing animation of the star at the end will be skipped. The setup costs a second-ish to end the Course but it results in a time save overall. You can watch this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXOmnZmBaJeeas0

They grabbed the star during the death animation, which means they can skip the saving menu after exiting the stage. This way they can re enter faster

Not according to my stopwatch. New version is about 0.4s faster.

I think it's synced from when Mario starts moving and the cutscenes before have different lengths due to language difference

@@eboone if mario is high up enough from where the star lands then the star doesn't do the bouncing animation and so the star spawn cutscene is a bit shorter (see kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXOmnZmBaJeeas0)

Notice the star spawn doesn't bounce at 7:05 ; not sure of the specifics as to why, but something about Mario's location makes that happen. So slightly longer slide time, but faster star grab overall. Also not sure why they don't repeat the tactic on slide-2 at 8:56 . Maybe someone else can enlighten on that. Edit, first slide Mario comes in on a sharp angle, maybe that angle makes getting to the box slower overall, even with the lack of star bounce.
