Some things not mentioned about starting your own business includes getting licenses and bonds required by both state and county, setting up tax payments, being insured, etc.
@Narrowayhomestead2 ай бұрын
Absolutely! I really missed mentioning that.

@@Narrowayhomestead It wouldn't hurt to take advantage of seminars in your community that are sometimes presented by your local Chamber of Commerce or community college. Many are free or very low cost and you can pick up some great info regarding advertising, bookkeeping, etc. Thanks for pinning my comment Nate!

I knew 2 indie truck drivers that only lasted a few years. Having to do it all themselves and never knowing when your next load is wasn't worth it to them. They made the same working for another without spending extra time on paperwork, fuel tags, repairs Yada Yada Yada.

Nate, you’re a very good person! I am ABSOLUTELY IMPRESSED by how you built this life for yourself and then brought your little lady Jen in to make it great! You guys then gave Will an opportunity as well as a lot of skills to become the person that he wants to become! I’m probably older than all of you (47 on 12/06/2024) guys out there and with age comes (sometimes) wisdom. I have been watching your videos from your talks with just a bad ass solar panel setup outside of your camper to now having a self sufficient homestead with everything that a family needs for sustainable living. You’re a true inspiration man! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! I wish that I could have had a mentor like you when I was a young man! Share this with Will! Will, you are blessed to be in the position that Nate and Jen have allowed you the opportunity to be in! Nate and Jen are both very rare people in this world. Live your life to the fullest! But please don’t expect everyone that you come into contact with to be as good as these two people are. There will be many people and opportunities in your life, few (if any) will be genuine. Play your cards well buddy! Keep inspiring us guys!!!!!

A wealth of knowledge you are sir! 😉 Makes total sense to address both related comments in the same video. Imho, it's a win win. They win because you give them both pointers and you win because of time management in an already crazy busy day. It also communicates to your viewers that you care enough to make your videos meaningful! Yep, we noticed!! Keep up the great work Nate! ❤

My Dad had a small contractor business. He always emphasized the amount of work it takes to prep; prep for estimate, prep for material sourcing, prep for employees, prep the day of, prep the set up (e.g. getting tools and material out and readily accessible), and more.

7:50 i scooped dog shit and i gotta tell you i got alot of business from spamming FB ads in an area with -0 competition for "spring clean-ups" (at 60$ a pop) cause we have big winters people let their shit accumulate, BUUUUT when it came to weekly customers making me a sustainable route and income nothing was more realiable than having 16 customers within a 1 mile radius. (which only came from word of mouth and the door knocking neighboorhood discount strategy) I could have been a dog shit millionaire if i wasnt just doing it to go to community college lmao

Nate you are very well spoken. You have a lot of experience in work and in life in general and in some areas more experience than you would have liked. It takes both the good and bad times in life to shape a person. People trust you, respect you, look up to you and love you. That is a good way to live your life. Will is just one example but a very good one. He really looks up to you and cares about what you think. Keep on living the good life Nate!

We had a guy who was going to put new windows in our house and I checked his license but it ended up not being his not one window in our house matches the next he ended up cutting the header in our living room and almost got our house condemned we fired him and someone we know came in and fixed everything in a week it's really hard to trust anyone we own our house out right so if anything happens we have a friend who has his own Construction Company for 30 years and we contact him but we ended up having to pay both our friends and the guy who used someone else license we thought about sueing him but he would cry and act like a baby so we just wrote it off. We live in Arizona.

besides the insurance/bond requiremnets (general liability, worker's comp if you have employees, vehicle, etc) for licensed contractors mentioned below, there are handyman limits on jobs. Here in Cali, I can't legally charge more than $500 per project per Cali law (along with some other restrictions). Other states have different limits, like CO has a limit of $2,500. So I assess the Cali limit of 500 as freaking stupid, but the law is the law. edit: missing prepositions and articles

Nate Dawg much love from south Alabama. I’m 24 and a project manager over 12 roofing crews across 5 states. I did it with no schooling, no family or friends in company, started from a laborer and earned my way to the top. I take home right under 6 figures a year salary and around 25-40k a year in sidework on my own, as a single man in south Alabama that is more than a comfortable living. But i want to be my own boss always have since i was a kid, i can handle the work side easily and i love roofing and I’m really fucking good, i have a great work ethic (6-7 days a week 70-90 hour weeks for the last 6 years) but I am horrible with money and quite frankly financially irresponsible. I am debt free, my credit is decent but man i just can’t save for nothing. So my question is do i need to A. Just learn how to manage my money before branching out on my own or B. Can i just hire someone right out the gate to handle the money side of the business, payroll, taxes, licenses and permits ?
