Small engine. Big power. Meet Pratt & Whitney's TJ-150. This high-performance turbojet engine is designed for expendable and limited life operation in missiles and unmanned aerial vehicle applications.

Hmn! I wonder if this type of powerplant can be useful for a private home built ultralight kit plane. Im sure 200 pounds of combined thrust from 2 of these engines might be sufficient motive power for an ultralight kit plan that humans can fly!..💡😊😆.

The Sonex JSX 2 jet uses a PBS TJ 100 with 130 kg of thrust, ~ 300 lb maybe? You can have it for 120.000$

I had no idea P&W made engines this size. It'd be interesting to see high bypass turbofans in this range of size. Seems they could be a lot more reliable than other small aircraft engine options.

You don’t need long term reliability for a missile

@@F14DSUPERTOMCAT you're right i guess. reliability will still be a good selling point for a jet engine, no matter what its used for.

The PBS TJ-200 is coming soon with 200 lbs of thrust. Putting 2 of those engines in a Light Sport Airplanes would be a fantastic sight.
@worldsmostwantedkiller9 күн бұрын
@@EUK007They even did a partnership with a company and make a 300 kg of thrust version, put 3 of those on a wearable aircraft and you're going Mach 2, and also the TJ 200 has more like 440 lb of thrust, 200 is from kilograms
PW engine fails more often but CFM and IDE don't..why like that 🤔

The BD-5J had a Turbomeca engine producing about 200 pounds of thrust. For a small homebuilt aircraft this engine would need at least that much or more. Costs would most likely be $50K or much more!

lol, 50k... Even small conventional aviation piston engines are more expensive.
@GrantOakes11 ай бұрын
@@NIOC630 Very true, but weigh MUCH, MUCH more and aren't going to deliver the thrill of a jet engine.

@@NIOC630Look at Jet Cat P1000 Pro, 20 and something thousand dollars engine 120 kg of thrust Swiwin also makes a 800N engine at ~16.000$ and you can put them on a Sonex JSX 2 wich originally is for a PBS TJ 100 wich is a 300 lb class 60-70 k $ engine (Turbine all)

it'd never work unless you made it a turboprop, otherwise you'd never make Part 103, just based on speed alone.

That sucks though. A bad assed engine built for one flight. Bring back the V-2s. Alot cheaper.

@@harrisn3693 Harris Naseem The Pratt & Whitney TJ-150 is older than PBS TJ150 and is based on the Sundstrand TJ-50. For the PBS TJ150 it literally says "NEW" on their website and under their promo video on youtube. The Pratt & Whitney TJ-150 first flew in 2009.
