As a Beyond owner approaching 7 months, this is a pretty reasonable review. A warning on the slim gasket: if your eyelashes continuously touch the lens, that is going to give you a headache really fast, never mind smudging your lenses. You won't want to wear the headset at all then, and you might require using spacer mods - many of which let light in - or a gasket RMA. Get a standard gasket to start off and request a slim one in May or June when they open up accessory orders. And as for the overlap, its good, but it used to be better on the pre pro unit, but that was sacrificed for the FOV increase (the vFOV did shift downward in the final unit, an improvement). So, if you like to be up close and personal to objects, characters, or avatars (*cough*), it is only as good as an Index and not the Q2, and especially not as good as the nearly 1:1 Pico 4. At least it's not as bad as the VIVE Pro 2/Focus 3 overlap. All that said, I wouldn't trade this headset for anything. My utility says 262 hours total. My longest session without powering down/resetting being 5 hours 30 minutes. It's good. Really, *really* good.

The overlap in the Vive Pro 2 was atrocious. I'm currently enjoying the Pimax Crystal, but I ordered the Beyond for more athletic games. I have neck problems from a work accident, so this will be a relief when I can't afford the strain of the Crystal. Still love that headset too though. Thank you for your insight, I was wondering if they took into account eyelashes.

The form factor is great, but the FOV is too limiting for me. I would even pay twice but for a much larger FOV. I wouldn't have thought it was so unsuitable in hot environments (perhaps because there is no air circulation)

Yeah, it's a good show for their future headsets, but I think it has too much trade offs for the price. As soon as it gets more FOV, better lenses and at least 150 nits, I think this form factor will be amazing. Meanwhile, even if it's bulky, I still pick the Pimax Crystal.

Another BSB owner here; I had to get 3 IPD adjustments and 3 cushion tweaks sent, but once it's dialed in perfectly, it's the best VR experience I've had yet and I've owned every commercial headset made. My most controversial opinions are that the glare doesn't bother me at all, I barely notice it, and same with the brightness. BSB feels brighter than the Pico4 to me. If no one had mentioned brightness being a concern, it would've never even occurred to me. The extreme contrast of the OLEDs makes everything feel brighter than an actual nit value can approximate. Imagine using a projector in a daylit room, versus using a projector in a room that's so pitch dark you can't see 2 inches in front of you. The edge-to-edge clarity is more of a bummer than FoV in my experience, it's not terrible, but it can't compare to larger format pancakes or even fresnel. The majority of your view and in the overlap is razor sharp with no eyestrain for me, but only once my IPD was dialed in perfect. I went from 72mm (face scan app) down to 69 and finally 68mm. My optometrist measured me at 69.

I absolutely love my beyond. Yes it has compromises but overall it is exceptional in my experience. I agree100% about the merits of the thin gasket and had to request that for mine to have an optimal experience. However, bigscreen beyond does NOT recommend requesting a “thin” gasket initially and if you do it will affect the support for having them rework your gasket if you have issues. I ordered a second headset for my partner and requested a “thin” style gasket and was told this is not advised and it would affect getting a free replacement if I wasn’t happy with it. They really want you to let them do their process and then adjust as needed after that.

First time I'm a little bit disappointed in your review. Shouldn't minimize two BIG problems: very small FOCAL area like the first HP Reverb... you look at the sides and it's blurry. Also, LATENCY is a HUUUGE problem. Ok for SIMs and slow movement games (HL Alyx) but not for intense action games (especially multi-player) - the image gets out of focus all the time when you move your head - this is an OLED problem same with Apple VPro, but that's used for Multi-Media. We can't be always looking at the center for something to work. I was hoping for a replacement for the Index, but absolutely no way. I'll have to stick with lower resolution because the visual experience is still much better (unless you are playing static games). On the rest of the review, very good - Good colors, weight and quality. Easy to set up as well. All the best Sebastian

You did but barely. I think they are huge problems. I do remember for you the HP was ok for focal point but for many people it wasn’t - I had to return it. The Latency is just mentioned a bit so I’m talking about minimizing the problems when they are very big issues. But all good. Thanks

There I was more stressing those problems with the lenses. But thinner facial interface does solve it for me. That was by the way also the problem for the G2, people did not get close enough to the lenses. They fixed it with a better facial interface.

Latency isn’t much of a problem, just turn the brightness down. Turning it down is not a problem, because there is no light leak. Give it 5 minutes and your eyes will adjust and will still look plenty bright while having a much faster pixel refresh time.

A word of caution to all ordering because of this video. Dont ask for the thinner facial interface first, as for some it can be far too thin and render the headset unusable. Get the first interface first, then decide if you need a thinner one. Theyll then help you decide how thin you need it.

I returned my bigscreen because of issues. Their support is amazing tho once they got caught up. One of my screens didnt work and when it did work for like 20 minutes, i could notice the overlap and edge clarity wasnt great. While quest3 is less comfortable its a better all around headset for me imo.

@@steveramundo4946 The good news is that once you do get hold of the headset, if you need to ever get it RMA'd to change the IPD or get a new face gasket made, they're extremely quick and efficient. I requested a thinner gasket and an IPD change and they managed to get both of those changes done *in under a week.* and the changes they made were exactly what I needed. Their customer service was brilliant.

Do you think it will stay on with Kiwi cable management? I’m concerned that it could pull off easily since there’s a bit of tugging and it’s so light. My Index doesn’t budge just due to the weight. I use my Beyond with the top strap and connecting one of those back strap rubber add-ons to the top strap that make the strap have a much larger surface area. I then connect the cable to that so the strap connects on the top of my head. I use only 1 kiwi cable because I play seated on a spinning bar stool chair. I can spin around 6 times in each direction.

So far, I'm really happy with mine....I'd like to try the slimmer gasket as soon as possible as I didn't really get the option to have mine shipped with the slim one but all in all, its as advertised and I'm very very impressed with how smooth it runs and how great it looks, even when I have to knock down the res.... I have two 3090's in SLI and I cannot run at native resolution because my pc just can't handle that high res!...But even when you knock down the res it still looks better by a mile than any headset I've ever owned..... (Oculus Rift\Samsung Odyssey\Valve Index)

The combination of smaller lens diameter and custom cushion enables your eyes to be much closer to the lenses vs. the generic cushion on Quest 3/Pimax Crystal.

also the motors for ipd are independent for each eye and after you add lenses it adjects the lens position to compensate for the lenses and prescription automatically - its the little things and apple gives you a slightly thicker padded face gasket in the box for lens use

Yes and no. Really depends what you are lack of? As A sim racer with motion rig I was looking really light headset. Overall picture quality is maybe par or even worst than g2 was. Without mods even comfort isnt there, but with some 3d printed face gasket mods its better purely because lightness.

If I remember correctly G2 sweetspot was even smaller, but BSB sweetspot goes almost unusable at edges when G2 kept even some quality. But feeling is bit different since BSB is so light that you move your head more than G2 and fov might be slightly larger.

As far as glare yes it is worse than Valve Index... Edge to edge clarity is pretty bad as well, and it is very dim, yes i have the slimmer gasket... gasket puts a lot of pressure on the face i even use apple vision pro strap to make it less but not exactly helping a lot...i had to send it back 3 times for IPD adjustments took like 3+ months, too many compromises for $999 mainly in the lenses also why no one mentions $200 restocking fee if you wanted to return it? watched whole video looking to mention this but yeah... I still use it over my other headsets but for most people best to just get Quest 3 and call it a day.

There isnt just perfect headset. First I was really disappointed visuals and comfort. Size and lightness is mindblowing, but compromises in some areas are noticeable. Visuals looks like G2 with even smaller sweetspot and brightness. There is sharpness at middle, but so there is at g2 too. Looking at desktop glare is bad, but once I launch Iracing cant notice it at all. Facegasket is made for your face, but now pressure is at tiny area around eyes. I use 3d printed addon face gasket regular with original in place, and now comfort is how it should be. I use BSB exclusively sim racing with motion rig. Lighthouse tracking isnt better for my case since motion rig introduced emi related problems etc. All in all. Quest 3 is much better overall except weight, but there is weight, and you cant forget that specially at motion rig. Really hope that thinner gasket will help me with sweetspot nad visuals overall.

Need to reply to myself. Dont want to be too harsh on BSB, since this form factor is REALLY ambitious. I have got used to visuals and BSB is my daily driver from G2, Quest3 and rift s.Transition from Rift s to G2 was upgrade everything except comfort. From G2 to Quest3 was upgrade everything except clarity at middle and sound. Quest3 to BSB was upgrade at clarity exactly at middle and lightness off course. Quest3 is headset for all, and cant praise that enough what it can do other than pcvr, with mass market price and available at nearby store. BSB might be hard to love at times, but if you fall you cant go back. Really hope they are here to do BSB2 with even slightly adjustable ipd, regular face gasket, better sweetspot, less glare and more fov. 100g more, and BSB would still be lightest headset.

Glare worse than Index to me. It's there all of the time except in super dark scenes, which look amazing. Edge to edge clarity also worse than Index. Feels like 50 percent of the lens in clear. Face gasket puts pressure on your eyebrow which makes opening your eyes bigger difficult. I've actually had Index controller tracking issues which I didn't with the Index. Apparently it's the difference between 12v on the Index headset and 5v on the Beyond. With that being said, I still am having a great time with the Beyond. I get less motion sickness in comparison to my Index. Not sure if it's because the headset doesn't move when turning quickly or the response time of OLED. The clarity is amazing. No compression artifacts. Just crystal clear pixels in the sweet spot. OLED contrast and colors are second to none. Brightness is sufficent at 80%. Sometimes it feels like I'm wearing nothing on my head. It's revived my enjoyment for VR, which was slowly dying. I've had to get my headset replaced to get the right IPD and a new face cushion to fit properly and be as thin as possible. But Bigscreen has been extremely helpful. They have made an experience that could have been a disaster into one that was worth waiting for.

For those that dont have sensors or controllers, do yourself a favor and pick up an old vive. I got a used one for 150usd., it came with 2 sensors and controllers.

If somebody can answer to my question it would be much appreciated. I remarked that in vr your eyes don't move the image as you try to look at different places of the display(like in real life, for exemple, if I stare at one point in front me, if I move my head from left to right, what I see don't change, only the field of view changes), but in vr the point of view will only change if you move your headset, for me this is an immersion killer. Is any company working on this issue and how close are they to fix it?

I never heard anyone addressing this issue, and personally I think that this should be the number one priority, because today, at least for me, having a headset is like having a huge 3D screen in front of your eyes, instead of giving you the impression to look through a window to a different world.

Not sure if I'm understanding you correctly. Are you saying that when you wear a vr headset, if you move your head left and right, the object you are focusing on get's blurry because it is no longer in the center? There are headsets with eye tracking which helps solve this. The size of fov for headsets are still not quite there to not make you feel like you are wearing ski goggles. Pimax makes some the wider fov headsets but I haven't tried them. So in essence, if what I understood from your comment is correct, companies are definitely working on making those aspects better.

@@rjarana I'm not sure if you understood what I tried to say or not, I'll try to rephrase it. So in real life, your eyes are the cameras, so if you keep your head still, and you only move your eyes, the point of view of what you see changes along side the image, whereas if you stare at something and keep on staring at the same thing while moving your head, what you see won't change, there will only be a slight decrease of FOV whether on the left or right depending where you move your head. In other words, what you see should move alongside with the movement of your eyes. Vr as it is today, as far as I'm aware, it's just a giant 3D screen that you look at, and not and actual world by which your surrounded, and I'm not talking about field of view. I hope I succeed on being clear, those things are difficult to explain, if it's still not clear I try to reformulate it using chat gpt.

I got it 2 weeks ago. Was very disappointed about the blurry lens sweet spot. At the center is really great but … Fov not great but it s okay. Micro oled amazing. Weight amazing. Not good strips.

Hey Sebastian, I'm looking for some AR glass that are compatible with my Lenovo Legion Go. I'm not super interested in using them for gaming or movies, my main reason would be for 10hr + studying and computer work. The only thing that's preventing me and others from buying this bad boy is the closed store access Apple phones only. WHICH SUCKS! They really need to open up to be able to buy the headset from the desktop via webcam scanning or Android. Not everyone has a iphone. That's my rant about the buying aspect of this bad boy.

It looks nice but i just aint interested same with crystal. Which im told has the best visuals possible atm. My 8kx is the way to go. Comes down to fov. My #1 in vr is racing, fov is champion in racing. Id rather use 8kx and quest 3 other a great looking crystal or light weight of big screen. I was actually saving for a crystal, but checking fov im out.

According to UPS mine is FINALLY arriving tomorrow, by 7:00PM they say. Even though I wear contacts I did spring for the Optical inserts for the weekends when I just too lazy and eye fatigued to want to use my contacts. My order will be MISSING the deluxe Audio Strap, but that is just creature comforts, my Air Pod pros should be fine. There have been some games I have put off playing until it arrives, including that one you demoed last week. (The Minecrafty thing). It's funny. I actually reached out to BigScreen Beyond recently, after I got my AVP, to see about ordering a spare second gasket. Wanted to try to experiment to see if it would be possible to use that gasket with the AVP somehow. (Best of Both Worlds). But they would not/could not do so at this time. Anyway, thanks for the timely review, and although I did not hear anything new on this one, I trust your opinion overall on all things VR. Now I just got to figure out how to sell the graveyard of VR tech that is currently cluttering up my space. We need a marketplace for used equipment. (including graphics cards). Uh..oh. Other than small form factor, Beyond is far below anything else plus hassle of the requirements is just stupid. What were they thinking? Even Quest 2 is far more better and advanced while being super cheaper

I want a BSB and would pay what it costs but the added cost of buying into lighthouse which seems like technology thats on the way out, feels like throwing money away. Not to mention the added cost of getting lighthouse controllers

I with they could make one that has the inside out tracking like MeganeX’s first headset. I don’t mind it being a bit larger as long as it has tracking built in and maybe controllers would be fine as an added cost.

Out of all the VR headset (the best device in 21st century for sure), Bigscreen Beyond has to be the headset that I bashed the most. Other than small form, everything else is just not worth the trouble. Best to at least wait for Megane X or something else. Paying $1k plus for something that will be obsolete within 1 to 2 years isn't a wise investment

Too many downsides… and terrible resale value with fixed ipd and custom gasket. While ai appreciate the small form factor and weight (and all HMDs should go towards that but without compromising clarity and built in tracking) the microOLED is the only really desirable part beyond that. I think they went too far and it shows a lack of design balance, meta would do something like this much better if making JUST a PCVR HMD without a computer stuffed in… a halfway thing between beyond and quest pro in size and weight with microOLED, meta lenses (future ones that work well with uOLED), insiepde out tracking, adjustable IPD and gasket, and DP but with optional wireless as currently works well on Quest 3/pro. But META won’t make that because they are obsessed with standalone which is the wrong path for GOOD VR imo. So hopefully valve can be that ideal blend between the two extremes, BSB ain’t it… not with a cable, no tracking, no audio, bad glare, low FOV and all that custom BS that makes rapidly outdating tech (as any HMD currently is) a risky and almost non viable purchase, esp with all the shipping issues and custom ipd and gasket nonsense. BSB should rapidly iterate on this, use the uOLED screens again in more universal and usable unit before someone else does. This one is flawed beyond reason, esp for the costs involved in total.
