Hello bro... I am in a little trouble because I have a mazda Protegé South América versión: is called "Allegro" and the problem is that my car doesn't come with this dimmer... I have the dimmer (buy it in ebay) but I dont know how to connect it, I cant find a plug in the holes where this buttons comes... so I was looking your videos, my car has the same clúster, the same buttons and almost the same dashboard I think that if you guide me where the electrical signals of the dimmer are I can connect it and hope the backlight will increase or decrease as is supposed to do. Thanks for your answer... if you have a Facebook account please post the link...

Hello. Unfortunately, the dimmer is quite complex piece of hardware. If your car did not come with an adjustable backlight, this means the backlight is connected directly to the TNS relay. So step 1 is to find where that connection happens and disconnect it! Otherwise, you will be trying to dim the parking lights as well, which the dimmer cannot handle (too much current). Only that part is enough to make the task almost impossible to do. Then the dimmer wizardry comes into play - you'll need an oscilloscope to understand how it works and then figure out how to connect it. Also, it has some odd logic to change brightness of the clock/head unit, but I never understood why (I no longer have both clock and head unit). So, long story short - forget about it. It can be achieved, but you'll need to remove the dashboard, trace cables and figure out how to connect the dimmer. Too much work for too little gain.
