Small Downtowns: Tawas City Michigan and East Tawas

Today, we are continuing our small dowtowns video series in Tawas City Michigan and East Tawas. This small town is located right on the beautiful great lake Huron in Northern Michigan. I was very surprised at how fun this small town was to visit. It had a very cool downtown area (located in East Tawas) and some very nice beaches and piers. Personally, I think the Great Lakes that surround Michigan are very pretty lakes and Michigan has some gorgeous beaches.
The downtown area of Tawas included several cute shops, coffee shops, restaurants, a couple of bars, antique stores, a candy shop called the Village Chocolatier, and even had a 2 screen movie theater. The expanded town also had restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, and a Walmart. It was a good sized tourist town and seemed to be quite popular this time of year.
We also visited three park/beaches, two of which had piers you could walk out on and sit/fish. The beaches were clean but a bit small. I didn't get into the water because even though it was warm day, the lake was quite cold. Overall, if you are in Michigan I would suggest spending a day in Tawas City.

Seems like it would be a great place to spend a bachelorette party. I wish I had stayed up the night somewhere up there so I could have explored more. Did you end up going into town?

Hi guys! Thanks for the video, loved it. This time of year I'm always planning all my up north trips and Tawas is never skipped over. Stayed at the lakeside beach resort one year and it was really fun, the bar life is surprising for a little quiet town! The public beach is definitely a focal point! Even better than Florida. And if anyone hasn't gone yet, Tawas Point State Park is a must if you love camping! Tent, cabin, yurt, RV, they can do all of it. And the lighthouse is beautiful too. You guys brought back so many fond memories. Thank you for that.

Thank you for watching :). My in-laws camp all the time at the Tawas Point State Park and they really love it. I would like to go back this year and stay a night somewhere in Tawas, I wanted to spend more time doing stuff. I agree with you the beaches are better than a lot of the Florida beaches I've been to.

I was visiting there about the same time you both were doing this video. East Tawas is a great place to spend the summer and winter. Lots to do ! I spent my summers up there in the 1970’s early 80’s but even the 90’s Had lots of family there at one time. You forgot to feature Marion’s Dairy Bar in East Tawas. Been there since 1945 It was also the local Greyhound bus station for many years. Fantastic old fashioned ice cream, sundaes, float’s everything !! Lots of Nostalgia.

That is awesome :). Is there a lot up there to do in winter? I used to go up there when I was a child as well during the summer. I thought there used to be a bunch of fairy tale playground equipment at on of the beach parks but I didn't see it this time. Do you remember that or was that further up the coast?

@@AdventureModeTraveling Yes I remember the fairy tale playground and it’s still there. Actually I believe it’s a landmark. Tawas had The Hobby Lot years ago. 3 rows of Trampolines, also pinball machines and video games back in the 70’s and 80’s. It was gone when I visited in the mid nineties so you might be too young to have seen it. It was great ! Tawas was famous for ice fishing, sledding tobogganing hunting. All kinds of winter activities ! My grandfather owned about 20 or so cabins right on Lake Huron in the 40’s, not sure when he sold most of them but he had one he kept where all our family reunions were held for decades up till 2020. I believe that one is gone now as well… sold. It’s a beautiful peaceful place. I like it for the memories. It’s not Ft Lauderdale Fl (thank God) it’s just very quaint with a few good places to chill out. The Lake is stunning ! Then again I’m from NY close to the city… our water is brown
