There was once a fire on my street at a house whose occupants were on vacation. Many stations (even the Battalion Chief of Station 1) responded. And this house is located only a few blocks from Station 14 at Doyle/San Tomas Aquino and Saratoga. I live in San Jose, BTW.

Sorry for the delay in the reply! Back about 1968, when Elmhurst did the Fireworks at Butterfield Park. A burning ember landed on a house roof and the Fire Department put it out. I remember the story, as when the homeowners, who had been on vacation, returned home, they saw a big tarp on the roof, and the FD business card was stuck in the door with a "Please Call...."

I'm not sure. It could be a emergency equipped vehicle from the City of Elmhurst motor pool.

Is the Ford Edge at 4:54 a police or fire vehicle?

Yup, a lot of stuff there. I think the Chief might have held units back and used the time as a training thing.....?

normal working fire response for most depts is 3 pumpers 1 ladder a rescue a chief a medic and an safety officer what i see here is normal granted in the dept i used to be with we would have sent back all units except for an engine the ladder and the chief since it was such a small fire

Sorry for such a late comment, but, I live in the same county as Elmhurst is in, nowadays they get a even larger response

Hi! Yes, Fire Science has advanced. These days, a full turnout will respond and then usually returned to Quarters once the first units reach the scene. I am reminded of the Our Lady Of Angels Fire where Chicago Fire sent one company to respond and time was wasted in upping up the alarms. It might (big might) have made a difference if a pre-determined full response was sent......?

Late is OK, it gives me a chance to review my videos and read the entire Comment Thread. I'm at the south end of Elmhurst, and when the Hospital has an alarm, there is quite a parade of apparatus responding!

you say small fire got big response. it is normal for most fire departments to tune out what is known as a "auto still" alarms on all structure and or possible structure fires . the first unit on scene must have thought it was bad enough to order all departments still on the way to continue in. other wise i am sure he /she would have ordered them to return

My guess we got some young real hot women living here.

Maybe, but more likely the Fire Chief decided to turn a response into a full blown table top exercise. That way, they get two for the price of one. I'm not complaining, I would do the same thing.....
