great work gave me some great ideas. have you ever considered instead of folding the leather over just once to bind the two pieces but twice so there is a fold rather than just an edge. i don't know if i explained myself correctly but hopefully you get the point.
@KinnariLeather9 жыл бұрын
+Jason Becker Yes, I have done that, but it isn´t necessary. And sometimes the leather is too "meaty" for that.

We see you measuring out the amount of thread you required for stitching! Is there a certain method that you use to ensure the right thread length? Many Thanks
@KinnariLeather9 жыл бұрын
I don´t do that usually. There are no rules for that really. However, what you can do is taking 3 times the length of the stitching line. But as said, that is no rule! It depends on how many layers you have and how thick the leather is. It is a matter of estimating and experience rather than following rules. In this particular case, i took 3 times the length and it was way too much ;-). Hope that helps

If you didn't have a bone folder, what else could you use? Or is it the kind of tool that cant be replicated by using something else like a spoon?
@KinnariLeather8 жыл бұрын
Something flat and smooth. A spoon... why not, if you use the handle of it and not the actual spoon ;-). Or get a piece of wood and sand it down.

@KinnariLeather9 жыл бұрын
+MaQueenie Makuini Thank you. It is maple and wasn´t dry at all... Meaning you should wait and let it dry properly, not like me using it immediately after cutting it ;-).

Hi. Nice work. Great attention to detail. What is the thickness of your leather 2mm? 3mm? and would it benefit to use a thinner leather for the inside pouches? I noticed a lot of the leather suppliers provide the leather already coloured at the same price. Does it create a more unique product when you colour it yourself?
@KinnariLeather8 жыл бұрын
It was about 1mm thick. You can certainly use 2mm leather, but you would have difficulties with folding the edges, so burnishing the edges would be a better option. Every piece of leather is unique, whether you dye it yourself or not. Nowadays I mainly use pre dyed leather.
