Nice KZbin page! I’m looking into making a still to distill water. Which would you recommend? Brazing or soldering? I know there is a lead free food safe solder is there a food safe braze I can use? Thanks for the help!!

Robert, I rarely solder. However, if I wanted to do what you are doing, I would solder. Brazing requires more heat than soldering. The more heat the more chance for warpage in thinner metals. For your purpose, a good soldered seam will give you plenty of strength.

Hi George, if I could ask you a question unrelated to this video. I'm starting out with the goal of making belt buckles (basically a 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch square. I'd like to use 4 gauge wire. So my question is: if you anneal the wire twice, does it become progressively softer, or if there a limit? Secondly, I was planning to form the square around 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 oak stock. Do you think that would be hard enough, or should I get a piece of square steel bar?

I don’t think annealing the copper twice would increase the softness. However, I’ve never purposely tried or tested repeated annealing’s. If you already have the block of hardwood, I’d start with that. If you plan on doing a lot of these, you’ll probably want to replace the hardwood with a steel block.

@@897473 Thanks, George. Of course I have a million other questions, but I guess I'll need to watch your videos from start to finish , and probably all the answers lie within. Best Wishes.
