Happy New Year Diy Friends! Today’s diy diary was a much anticipated makeover for me. My entryway was DULL and lifeless. It was so depressing to walk into my home and feel no sense of my personality or love for my home. So I pulled up my DIY sleeves and painted my walls a brand new colour, tried my hand at floor stenciling (AGAIN), created a rad DIY Tractor Seat Bench, Oak Console Table/ Coat Hanger and finished the space off with a custom DIY Boot Rack! From there it was all about the little touches that made it special and VOILA! My new and improved Front Entryway!

As someone who has always dreamed of a personal studio in my home, I actually teared up at the sight of that lovely paneled door and step up to your studio! I'm not usually a farmhouse queen BUT I can see the creative energy overflowing in your new entryway. Keep up the amazing art!

That floor came out so good! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 And I really love your message at the beginning. My heart hurts when people say they aren’t creative, because I truly believe EVERYONE is creative in their own special way. So thank you for that reminder and I hope to see more of that creative beast this year! 💖

Love how it turned out! LOL on the "doggie" bags over your shoes. My mom is a cleaning freak and she expected you to take your shoes off when entering her place. Well my dad hated it esp when he was working outside and had to come in for something then go back out. He started putting plastic grocery bags over his boots to save himself from taking them off. Then my brothers started doing that. My dad has passed away and now days my mom is not as picky but this video made me think about those days.

Are you Canadian? I'm a Canadian who used to live in the US and there, people would want into my apartment with their shoes on!!! We do NOT do that in Canada. It's always expected that you take your shoes off.

Yes, creativity can’t be taught or acquired as a skill, yes, a certain level of creativity is in everybody. But no, there isn’t an equal amount of creativity in everybody and that’s okay. You don’t have to be 100% creative and 100% productive and 100% assertive and 100% everything. That’s an unrealistic and unattainable goal. And while growth, personal and professional development and life long learning are important (and inevitable) parts of life, the restless, rabid pursuit of them in order to be more and better all the time is neither helpful, nor necessary for a healthy, wholesome and fulfilled life. Not everybody is the best at everything or even something and that’s okay. Good is okay, even average is okay, enough is okay, stagnation is okay, stability is okay, just breathing and existing without the feral need to do more and be better is okay. Just my 2 cents for 2021.

Funny, I feel I was not born creative. Perhaps there was a spark in there, but studying creative things is what set "my beast" free. Maybe I have gotten so much better because I happen to be a very detail oriented person, but I was not born into a creative family. I learned how to be creative with a motivation of lack of money. I was determined to have just as much as anyone else at a tenth of the cost. . .

I think what's important is everyone likes their own creations and enjoys the process. Hold off the self the judgements and enjoy act of the problem solving- "how can I make this better?". Set aside perfection. Most people evolve in their creativity as long as they don't let themselves stop by being too self critical.

AMEN sister... Having just lost one of my soul brothers in art and creativity, and having reflected a lot on how much he influenced me, through art but also kindness and intention, I re-realized how important art and creativity was, for its own sake. And it made me realize how much art changed my life and my perspective when I most needed that, forced me to see myself for who I really was, shocked me into action to achieve my goals, in a time where all seemed pointless and grim. Seriously, art saves lives, be it a lamp you've made and are proud of, or a song you wrote, or a documentary or movie you saw that sparked something in you... art is not just a crutch or a release, a sort of luxury you can afford only when you've EARNED the right to enjoy it, it's an essential service. PERIODT. Let that creative beast out. 2020 had a funny way to remind us all we're not eternal but fragile, so let's make the most of it!

ummmm...DANIE!!! Did you try googling "STENCIL BRUSH"? They are small flat paintbrushes meant for stenciling. That's what you are supposed to use. It's long and painstaking if you are doing a big project, but it WILL NOT BLEED AT ALL. People only use rollers because they don't want to spend the time doing the real deal. But your floor still looks great and I've always wanted to tell you what a BOMBSHELL I think you are!!! I have a huge girl crush on you! Keep on creating! I love it!

OMG you are GOOD! I love how you come up with your own ideas and don't necessarily do only what's trendy. Tractor seats?! Who would have thunk?? PS. Another tip to prevent stencil bleeding (although more time-consuming): place stencil on floor, paint one coat the SAME colour that is already on the floor. Let dry. THEN, paint the stencil colour on top as the second coat. If anything will bleed, it will be the first coat of paint which is the same colour that is already on the floor (in your case, it would have bled white and wouldn't have been noticeable). Again, time-consuming, but effective.

To keep stencils from bleeding, you have to put down the stencil and paint with the original paint color. Let it dry, then paint with your stencil color. Works like a charm but would take quite a while on a large project. And WOW! The floor is gorgeous!

What has always helped me with stencils and not bleeding is once the stencil is placed, painting the first coat the color of the background. That way when it bleeds, it’s the same color as the background and it seals any holes! Although, that is normally on smaller scale projects and would have probably taken you a whole lot longer! The entry looks AMAZING in any case! Happy new year, and I’m excited for new diys! :)

You can use the crisp line trick with stencils too. Use the spray adhesive on the back, but also do your first coat in the background colour so any bleed blends in and seals any gaps up, then coat with the stencil colour 🙂

Beautiful!! The tractor seats are def an awesome score!! Id maybe add film to the craft room door, so the color would look cohesive. I dont think it will stop the light coming through, just the colors of stuff that are going on behind the door.

To help prevent bleeding, paint over the stencil with your base colour first. Your entry way looks amazing 😍
