One of my favorite thrift stores is faith-based with the mission of helping young men (who staff the store) overcome drug addictions. Working at the thrift store is part of their rehab. Although they do have set prices, they are reasonable. Everything isn't priced as if it's a valuable antique! (Far too common in other thrifts in my area.) They are interested in helping not only the young men, but also the people who come in to shop - in other words, the community. They realize that many people shop there because sometimes retail prices are just too steep. At the register, they will often glance at my pile of stuff and say, for example, "Oh, just make it $5." Their attitude just warms my heart.

@@CrazyLampLady I'm so excited you replied!!! I'm in NC (Outer Banks), so it's way, way too far to drive! (Well, unless you take a vacation down here!) Plus the shop is quite small, and doesn't have much at all of what you go for. I have connections in your area and would love to visit your future shop and the flea market etc. Maybe some day! BTW, the lighthouse fabric painting you picked up the other day looks like Bodie Island Lighthouse, which is very near to me. It's one of seven coastal NC lighthouses. The one your dad mentioned, with diamonds, is surely Cape Lookout Lighthouse.

That is a wonderful idea, we have a lot of stores, mostly GW, but like someone else said, sales are less, and less. Prices went up, but I could drive to 5-6 within like 35 mins, and bins in 45 mins. We have a lot of colleges in Ohio, and I've seen a couple community stores, that sponser Grant money.

Wow, you are in my home state and at one of the most scenic parts of the commonwealth. I love Orange and Montpelier. I teach and take my students to Montpelier each year, although that might not happen this year, at least not in the fall - fingers crossed for spring maybe. The archaeological program at Montpelier is fantastic and Andrew will get a lot out of it. This is one of my favorite channels, so keep up the great work you do and find more treasures!

I have moved almost completely to small town thrift stores for sourcing. I mostly resell clothes and the brand selection is limited, but I know the profit margin and the sales. One local store has a $6 bag sale every Saturday! The others have amazing weekly sales. GW no longer has sales in my area and have steadily increased prices. I'd rather support the missions of smaller stores.

Christine Green - I’m standing right beside you on this one! I much prefer smaller volunteer run thrift shops where you see your $ going straight into various community programs. Our chain thrifts are awful & have many class action suits. Imagine bragging about hiring the handicapped & then paying them an illegal wage of 85c an hour😳? Pretty deplorable. J. XXX 😘🧡😻😻

That place gave me the feeling that you could get lost in a corner, a pile of stuff could fall on you, and they wouldn't find you in ten years. I think it would give me an anxiety attack. Super glad you enjoyed yourself tho and was happy it didn't have to be me. Claustrophobia is a thing! Too many leering overhead shelves full of stuff...it gave me the shivers, but I could see you were in your element. You go girl!!! Great finds!!!

That's how all our little thrift store are!!!!! I love them ...they are usually church ran so people donate and in return the prices are kept low!!! Great finds!!!!..I love when the have vintage jewelry!!!!...my best find to date was a white gold amethyst necklace for 4.00 ,,,CHACHING....also the market is good for vintage ashtrays....and the market isn't flooded with them. So Everytime I found one it's like I hit the lottery!!!!

Orange, VA is fun! I used to live in Fredericksburg, VA and visited Montpelier many times. Orange is such a quaint town. I always loved going through. Really fun to see you there. If you ever are traveling down in that direction again and travel on I-95, there is a great Goodwill in Fredricksburg, VA, right off I-95. I had to drive past it every day on my way home from work every day and I would stop in about 3 or 4 times a week. They had the best stuff I've ever seen in a Goodwill Store and I have been to many. I had bought a new house in the area when the market crashed in 2008 & I furnished my entire house using the things from that store. It's been awhile since I lived there, but they are still there. And I guess down the street from there, they now have a Goodwill Outlet store. Wish I still lived there! LOL Love going through the bins when I have been in those before. Anyway, the address for that Goodwill Store is: 10070 Jefferson Davis Highway, Fredericksburg VA 22407 And the outlet is literally down the street at: 4701 Market Street, Fredericksburg VA 22408 The first one is the the best - I got some really high end kind of things there - but there are others in Fredericksburg. Some of these were not there when I lived there and are relatively new Stores. Also, about a 15-20 minute drive North of Fredericksburg is Stafford. And there are 2 stores there as well. Again, one is just off the freeway and the other is down the road from that. Also, the town of Fredericksburg is very historical and has some very nice antique & thrift stores, too: www.yelp.com/search?cflt=thrift_stores&find_loc=Fredericksburg%2C+VA+22401 The downtown restaurants have wonderful food and one has a giant beer menu, if you guys like to drink a beer every now and again. The old Apothecary Shop is fun to visit, though there are other things there, too. It was the childhood home of George Washington, so there are lots of places involving him, including his mother and sister's homes. The area is well known for it's artists, too. There are bunches of artists shops downtown. One famous artist, Gari Melcher, lived there. He's gone now, so his home and studio can be toured (closed now due to pandemic) That's a real treat to see as well, especially his studio. www.garimelchers.org/visit/ Anyway, here are the addresses for the rest of the Goodwill's in that area. You could literally be there for a few days thrifting and taking in all the historical museums and such. If you do go, have fun! OMG Jocelyn! I lived in Orange Va that (in the wall) for wayyy too many years! 🤣🤣. I LOVED going in there...I think he bought his stuff (at that time) from estate sales down in Charlottesville and GoodWill auctions. You didn’t miss anything in that Goodwill... If you go again go thru Culpeper on your way back to Pa...there is a place called Minuit Man Mini Mall you will love and a place called “The Graffiti House” Andrew will love. Culpeper’s Goodwill is decent too...

I want to go there and fix their shelves, so many empty spots ,extremely piled ones, as well as floor clutter. I kept getting afraid you were going to trip over something or stuff would tumble to ground. Other than that the thrill of the hunt there would be awesome!

The first pin was actually a 90's ish pin but that horse was definitely brutalist! I absolutely LOVE that you're starting to look at jewelry more and more; that is my OBSESSION. I've been doing it for over 10 years now. So not only can I help but I can also scope out and score some pieces for my personal collection ;) Edit: If next time you go to that shop and that porcelain moon piece is still there, would I be able to buy it? It would be perfect for my art!

so many cool things and I was thinking- oh Jos! stop and look at that! one thing you walked by was a Japanese doll on a stand--could have been vintage-sent back during Korean War; I had a baby doll --of course I broke it--my Dad got on R&R in Japan. The stand up dolls--I've seen a few over the yrs and no idea what they're worth; then that tie dye t-shirt--my sister wears them a lot. So I noticed that too and wondered about it.
