While it's cool having the Elite 4 all in one place. Drake being in that one part of Meteor Falls (which is especially cool because it's the one place in the game you can catch Bagon) made me realize how cool it would also be for the player to have to hunt down the Elite 4 and find where they are. They could be in especially difficult places to find, leading to a greater emphasis on exploration.

Ants strategy for this was extremely intelligent. Recognizing that because the order is messed up an effective strat is to catch whatever pokemon you can early from a diverse set of levels so that you can breeze through the gyms once you find them all was brilliant. That kind of situational awareness is something I think speedrunning really builds into someone. Knowing what strat to apply when and when to abandon a strat and try something else is a fundamental life skill in general. As the great Kenny Rogers put it, "You gotta' know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, and know when to run."

Idk if it was catching ‘random’ Pokémon at different levels. He hit victory road which gives him his beloved crobat opportunity and he loves the Aron line because both Pokémon are either a tank or sweeper, so getting through the gyms was easy since they were already 40, only got the raltz for teleport to go around resetting in soft lock or whiting out, and got the goldeen strictly for waterfall when the game glitched so he couldn’t get it naturally. Luckily went through rayquaza’s path so spent a good chunk of time wasting great balls and got lucky enough😂 that rayquaza pretty much helped him sweep the rest of the gyms, the elite four, and the champion which brought him back up to pace when he wasted all that time prior. I guess the best strat is just having superior Pokémon knowledge so you know how to use the specific Pokémon you come across to your advantage and which ones to strictly choose for that reason.

The almost instant catching of lvl 40 pokemon was a the most clutch part of the run. Same tbh, I hate how unfortunate that whole thing played out... It hurt to watch, from an empathetic, genuine point of view :( To this day I still do understand both sides though, and I suppose with the festered negative emotions and stuff there wasn't much more left they could salvage. The healthiest thing to do was to move on and leave the misunderstandings behind them, even if they felt like open wounds to an outsider's perspective

I find it kind of poetic that in order to find Drake, the dragon master, SmallAnt had to catch a goldeen, a pokemon based off of Karp, and have it accend a waterfall. Just like the legend of old, where a karp climbed a waterfall and became a dragon.

Contrast this to Ant. Rarely ever lied, because why would he need to? He knows pokemon better than Crow, that's undisputed, and he was confident in his own progress through and through. Whenever Crow lied, he was more than able to rationally think about Crow's ability, his nature, and his psychology; he knew what was feasible, and from there knew what wasn't true.

Dude, this guy always amazes me. I mean, I first played Pokemon Blue when I was 4 years old, one year before I learned to read (trust me, another kind of random...) but even later, I never figured out the strats he uses. Like, from smokescreening 6 times to knowing when a mon automatically learns an HM...? Just wtf man. xD AMAZING.

thing was, it would have taken him like 2 seconds to white out there. Smant had a team of much stronger pokemon, which is why dying took so long. I think one of the things he learned from this is that you shouldn't get a beefy team before you have a reliable way of getting out of places without dying.

This was one of those perfect randomizers from a watching entertainment factor. Everything was jumbled, sure, but most was accessible...right up until Drake. And it required one single piece of the puzzle in Goldeen that needed to be trained up. I love when a player has to think on their feet like that instead of finding a way around the weather issue or needing it fixed (rather unfortunate on Norman; no choice there).

I do find it a bit funny how Crow psyched himself out with his own lies, and was lying almost the entire time, meanwhile Ant was just legitimately honest the entire time about what he was doing and Crow didn't believe him or realize how far behind he was until near the end.
