In places like America, you need a car to go to stores. A lot of people don't have reliable transportation or don't wanna use gas and get stuck in traffic. In Japan, everybody walks. So it's much easier to just go outside and go visit stores/malls. Amazon and online shopping is only negatively affecting the west. In Japan, going out to physically buy stuff or going to the mall to hangout is still very much alive.

I'm all for any person doing what they want as long as it doesn't affect others negatively..One or two references would have been hilarious, ten references becomes repetitive and hints at an edit that required more time.
