I have the very same penknife ! Some nice weight saving ideas. However, as you mentioned, most importantly do not take what you don't need or don't use.

When I started teaching I always had a swiss army knife in my pocket until it became unfashionable to do so. The amount of times I used the pliers, pin, or screwdriver was incredible.

Thanks! Its always a mix between what you need, what you can afford and what works, but ultralight is the way forward if you can match all three.!

I did enjoy that Phil. I agree with reducing size and weight - been figuring it out for a long time. I like the headlamp - not to pricey either. Mid you it's only 40 lumens. Re-the alcohol I don't drink so don't suffer that weight or waste. I imagine people's camera gear could do with taking a look at. It can be weighty. If a short trip a paper map will do as opposed to your Garmin. Well, good going - for sure I could lose some weight too. All the best. Mark

@@WyeExplorer thanks Mark, I don't think anyone ever finalises thier kit list. I've shaved a huge chunk off mine by getting a lighter tent and backpack. A beer is a nice celebration for me, but I'm considering just taking one instead of two. Thanks for the comment.

@@PhilWaud A pleasure Phil. I agree - it's a work in progress. I only use tarp tents - have done for many years. My backpack currently is 1,000 g. So, yeah I know where you're at. Good on you for the 1 beer. Peace.

Great upload pal 🙂, I was looking at location to go wild camping yesterday , I find carrying liquid a drag , especially in summer when you drink a lot , I'm thinking of getting a sawyer straw mini , and making use of all the water we have in the hills. Best wishes 🦇🦇🖤🖤

I've got the sawyer mini, it's great but slow. Problem for me with the straw ones is you have to get so close to the water. With a mini, you bag it up, then squeeze it later.

Reducing weight is important. I carry my old boyscout knife that has a can opener and a pair of ignition pliers, along with the tiny Swiss knife. It weighs less than any multi-tool and gives some redundancy. I just have a poncho for shelter and a light change of clothes. I am more interested in an overnight bag a that can be used as a get home bag than camping. I do have a hiking bag but don't camp anymore.

Interesting... Obviously this was aimed at camping but I have an EDC kit in my pocket nearly all the time. It has the swiss army knife but also a pair of nail clippers. I've never needed pliers, at least when I do, my Leatherman is close by. The poncho is a great item, but the one I have needs longer arms as my sleeves always get wet. Thanks for the comment.
