I’ve been a back yard astronomer for 30 years and I love your channel. Most astronomy channels are into astrophotography that involves thousands of dollars in equipment. You have a passionate interest in getting beginners into astronomy.

I literally just ordered one from Amazon UK after watching this video I wanted a mount I could operate one handed after being disabled from a stroke it looks well made.and it looks so versatile,it should arrive in the few weeks.

I purchased this mount 6 months ago and I must say it’s excellent for it’s price. It’s probably the best AZ mount that won’t break the bank. I am very pleased with it. The only negative thing about it would be that you have to tighten the screws of the slow motion controls often because they don’t stay tight for a long time.
@smalloptics7532 ай бұрын
It's a common problem with those little locking screws coming loose, my skywatcher does the same.. There is something called screw glue, LockTight makes, and it is to stop screws from becoming loose . I've not tried it yet, but I am going too. It's cheap, so it's worth a try. Thanks for watching, my friend.

SVBONY is currently developing a new model of astronomical telescope Alt-Azimuth Mount, which is a scaled-down version of the SV225. This new Alt-Azimuth Mount boasts a weight capacity range of 1-5kg, featuring a more compact and sleek design. Moreover, it comes with a more affordable price tag. It remains to be seen whether it will gain widespread acceptance among users.

I'm definitely interested in it.

I agree, you're a great presenter, Jason. I'm not a skygazer but have a general interest in the world, and your videos have been very enlightening, covering basics for beginners that also help me appreciate how amazing the cutting edge tech like James Webb is too.

Great vid. I have the SV Bony mount but find if I set it in the 45 deg. position it changes the center of gravity so that when my SV503 is mounted, it feels like it could tip over. Now, I don't remove the scope when I'm done viewing so the only time it feels like falling is when I start to bring the legs of my tripod in. With the mount set vertically, I have to move the AZ controller around to the front, otherwise it hangs up when leaning the scope back. It's worth buying if your are still considering.

Hi Jason I got this mount head last year and it is truly wonderful to use! I also have a explore scientific twilight one mount that's just as good! I'm strictly an altaz man. Clear skies!
@3dfxvoodoocards62 ай бұрын
The SV225 is still better than the Twilight because it has 3 safety screws (Twilight only 2) and it also has 3 lateral bars (Twilight only 2).
@ericfrizzell24502 ай бұрын
So that don't matter
@3dfxvoodoocards62 ай бұрын
@@ericfrizzell2450 yes it matters because especially with the 3rd lateral bar it will be a little more stable than the Twilight. And the Sv225 also has handle to move it up down and left right, the Twilight doesn't have one.

Received mine earlier this year. I have it mounted on an Orion Paragon HD tripod. Right out of the box I had to address the large amount of play between the arm and the base. I had to wrap the seat on the base with electrical tape until the play was gone. Other than that it is a solid piece of equipment.

Great video thanks, purchased one once I saw it. Now there isn’t a video suggesting the best tripods for this mount, if you make one, yours will be the first. This will help many to choose the right one, since SVBony don’t sell it or recommend any. Thanks

Svbony's redesign of the Vixen Porta. I've had 2 Porta's. They're great! I hope the design lives on forever
@VickiAnkney2 ай бұрын
This things not even close to the quality of a vixen. A vixen was 319 dollars thats tripod and mount so thats 160 each componet. that price was from 2009 when products had quality to them and you didn't have to modify it to work. I'll keep my porta II with a good soild 20 # capacity and no vibration tripod. Not something they put binoculars on.
@woodpecker1284Ай бұрын
@@VickiAnkney Have you actually tested that 20lbs claim on e.g. a Skymax 180 at 200x+ magnifications? Just because Vixen and the retailers all quote 5kg = 11lbs
@VickiAnkneyАй бұрын
@@woodpecker1284 I'm just given you the spec. from the orion catalog from 2008 when orion carryed vixen products. No I never put that much weight on it but I never max a mount or even close and your a fool if you do. there's no room for error in weight or performance. I hope that answered your question.But for a grab and go 80mm 90mm 100mm up to 115mm your good for planitary veiwing, with a good barlow. Keep looking up.

Nice mount! And I like that refractor, mate black and red ring. Is that a Kson telescope!
@smalloptics7532 ай бұрын
The telescope is actually a beaverlab astrophotography telescope that I converted to a visual telescope. Before it wasn't possible to use it with an eyepiece only a camera and with me being more of a visual astronomer the Decision was made. 😅 Thanks for watching buddy.

After fooling around adapting a vixen dovetail compatible saddle to my cheap alt-az setup, that is just barely adequate, I’m gonna get one of these. Great review 👍 This will be perfect for my quick look scope.

Funny you are reviewing this Mount, it just arived in my postbox still need to unbox it! The most important gear in astronomy is still the mount, the best telescope aint worth much on a flimsy mount.

Thanks for the great review. Do you know if you can get an adapter that would allow me to attach my large binos as well as a scope? A vixen to a bino mount?
