SmallRig 3/8" to 1/4" thread adapter pack review

A review of a pair of thread adapters from camera accessory company SmallRig. Made of solid machined brass with nylon washers, these feel pretty substantial and seem to be of high quality.
Having these adapters in your kit will allow you to mount any conventional microphone on a camera tripod - useful when you've run out of mic stands or don't have one in the first place. Conversely, they will also allow you to mount a camera on a mic stand, which may be useful in order to obtain certain angles or heights that a conventional tripod cannot manage.
Note: As of the release of this video the 2-pack that I show (one of each type) is listed as 'currently unavailable' on amazon.com. However the adapters are still available, you just have to know which type you need and buy two of them.

this video is really really informative for someone like myself. I was wondering if i buy Rode PSA1 scissor arm stand for my mic and if i could use it for my webcam at the same time. all i need is 3/8 to 1/4 adaptor as shown in the last part of this video. thank you so much for making this video

You're welcome, these adapters are really great for going between the audio and video worlds as it were :) Remember that the adapter adds some height to your setup so it may not work if vertical clearance is an issue.

can it also be used to mount my Sony RX100VA on my tripod?because my quick release plate is too wide...underneathside of the lens and underneath side of the screen pushes against the plate.. :(

No - for that you need a 1/4"-20 extension, ie both male and female threads need to be the same.

Check your local camera store - bring your tripod and show them the problem, they should be able to find you a solution.

Wrap the adapter in a rag and use a pair of pliers to ease it off - be gentle or you'll damage the brass 😊

Sounds like you need a better pair of pliers 😅 But seriously, use whatever it takes to increase your grip - electrical tape, rubber bands, cut up inner tube etc. Get creative!
