@necoreaper2 ай бұрын
Yeah rings not that great when weight lifting, if you are lifting with any lifting wraps or lifting straps the watch also becomes useless, Samsung should invest more in integrating more chest straps into their eco system, or just provide better support for ones already on the market like polar or garmin chest straps.

Get a Fitbit Charge, does the same thing, but more accurately, has a smart alarm that vibrates based on your sleep cycle, has payment functionality and you can disable all notifications if they’re bothersome.
@notdre2172 ай бұрын
Unless you're doing something like circuit training like some sort of Orange Theory-esque routine where it's basically half a cardio workout and not just strength training, none of the fitness trackers really offer much towards lifting. Garmin has the ability to make routines and track sets and rest periods, though it's honestly a bit annoying imo, but ultimately all the watches are really built with cardio tracking in mind and they end up basically just treating lifting by the metrics of what cardio impact did it have on you. Like a 30 min light jog is weighed as a heavier impact with more required recovery time or "body battery" effect than an intense lifting day with heavy squats and lunges that easily makes me feel more depleted than the 30 min jog. In all fairness, I don't really expect much more than that, a watch/ring/whatever can only tell so much about what you're doing. It's a bit silly when you find people complaining that their watch couldn't tell they were doing step back lunges vs squats. I don't really know what they could do to better measure your muscle fatigue and your exertion during lifting without things connected all over you.

Speaking of tracking when the device shouldn’t be tracking: as soon as my sleep schedule kicks off my apple watch starts recording sleep but I’m not sleeping at that time. In fact, it knows from my high heart rate that this aint a sleeping heart rate, it still counts it as sleep and sometimes, deep sleep. Not sure how trust the actual sleep data (when i was indeed sleeping), there’s just no way to know how much deep sleep i got. This is from a high end apple watch series 9

That's even dumber, why would the app show the step count from ring and the phone as a total and not a separate figure? Why even purchase the ring at that point if you cant see the readings from it specifically?
@theharesbreath2 ай бұрын
So it's not as simple as that. When you have a watch/ring connected, Samsung health uses the step count from that device. If your watch/ring isn't counting steps (let's say it's at your desk) and you're moving around with your phone in your pocket, the steps from your phone are counted. If you combine the Galaxy Ring with the Ultra watch or Watch 7 they work seamlessly together to monitor your health and workouts. Not the Apple watch. Also the ring worn together with the Ultra Watch will save you 30% of your battery life. If you have both the Galaxy Ring and the Galaxy Ultra Watch or Galaxy Watch you can take off your ring for those workouts you mentioned and the watch will continue recording your results seamlessly into the same Samsung Health app the ring records to. The same applies for the sleep data. You can take off the watch when you go to bed and the ring will monitor your sleep metrics. I personally hate wearing a watch to bed so this combination is what I am most excited about. It's obvious they are pushing the Samsung eco system which for me is fine. You can also use the ring with Android phones (Android 11 and newer). You will just not get the energy score and using gestures you would get with a Galaxy phone. I hope this helps those who are trying to decide whether or not to purchase one.

I dont think its samsungs responsibility, I'm sure there would be issues when pairing this with an iPhone or Pixel and it would require them to develop an app for the Google Play Store for other Androids. As opposed to you just pairing it with your Samsung and it automatically working. They have taken the Apple approach to this, unfortunately.

An important aspect that you didn't mention: When paired with a watch, the watch and ring talk to each other directly to get an even more accurate reading. I believe that a Ring + watch combo would give you the most accurate readings of any smart wearable.

The phantom heart rate readings are definitely odd and need to be addressed. Looking forward to seeing if smart rings continue to evolve.

9:03 you can actually pair it with *any* Android Phone, which they also say on their website. The only requirement is Android 11 and above to work. This may be one of the biggest issue for potential buyers, so please correct this 🙏 Great review otherwise tho ❤

Oura Ring - August 18th 2015 John McLear's NFC Ring Kickstarter - July 20 2013. The first guy to do the materials science behind it IIRC. obviously there's much more that goes into the Oura Ring, but just wanted to point to the predecessors that scaled the mountain bare-handed in le olden times.

"it never vibrates, it never makes any noise, there's no speaker in it" 8:00 lol no speaker in a ring
@tylercox58292 ай бұрын
Would be easy to implement. AirPod cases have speakers.
@IceBlueLugia2 ай бұрын
Disappointing that there’s no speaker. I can understand no haptic motors, maybe it would be too thick, but a speaker can’t have been that hard

Whilst i know it's expensive... This for me shows why whoop on a bicep band is the way to go. Completely out of the way, can still do all your other workouts, and doesn't feel horrible on your finger like a ring does.

Taking off the ring and it’s still showing data as if he had it on is SUPER SUPER bad. Almost a controversy I’d say. It’s almost like AI is just filling in the gaps or something. It’s literally made up data.

@4:21 He speaks the truth! Smartwatches have awful placement for health monitoring (especially for people with more melanin in their skin due to the increased light absorption). There's a reason why hospital-grade pulseox sensors are still clipped to the ends of your fingers. It's all about the Perfusion Index.

Perfect for me. I might have to wear gloves for using weights while strength training, but other than that I mostly run, bike, Zumba. I wear a Fitbit Flex 2 for a health study, a Garmin for my other activities, but would love the ring to track my sleep, etc. I haven't been able to sleep in a watch.

$10 000 says he's gonna absolutely love the "IRing" or the Apple Ring should they decide to release it... To those new, American tech reviewers get paid to make the public doubt android tech in favour of the Apple, their "American" tech company... Pay attention 💔

Hydration levels have a significant impact on ring size. If you selected a ring size when you were dehydrated, then tested the ring when you were well-hydrated, that could account for the sizing discrepancy.
