Hello friends, today in this video I've shown how to make a precision li-ion charger circuit. The heart of this circuit is the tl431 regulator. You can easily adjust the current by changing the 47ohm resistor, decreasing the resistor value will increase the current. you can use any online tl431 calculator to get your desired voltage. Before connecting to the battery, please check the output voltage first.
Components required for this project:-
1. tl431 regulator
2. d882 transistor
3. 1k ohm resistor
4. 680 ohm resistor
5. 47 ohm resistor
6. led

Here is a special warning for those who want to build this circute. This circute is meant to charge a Li-ion battery, and these batteries explode if over charged. therefore its important that circute realibly cuts off when the batery reaches 4.2 volts. In this particular circute, when battery is cut off, the entire base current thru 47 ohm resitor is diverted throuh the green led. But the led can safely take 10 ma only and if overloaded it may burn out, in which case the battery continues to charge with dangerous consequences. Do all testing with no batery or connect a high valuse capacitor in place of battery. 500 ma is too high a charging current. around 200ma is reasonable. Recomended charge current is C/10 means a 1600 maH bater should be charged at 160 ma. For small batteries of say 600 maH it should bejust 60 ma. Ihave written only in the interest of safety as Ihave noted most readers are not so educated in the field and may be unaware of danger.

segun los datos esta bateria se puede cargar hasta un 1amp o mas pero no soy experto en el tema tiene razon con los de el 10%,bueno yo me arme dos 1 con tip 36c 0,55amp y 2do con transitor bd 13005 0,35amp hasta ahora va todo bien a pesar que me alerte este conexta la salida a la base y no logro entender como tiene los 4,2vol

led verde de 3mm utilice estoy esperando q se queme xq note eso q usted dice cuando la carga llega a tope por lo tanto no pasa mas corriente el disipador esta frio por esa razon digo ya q no tome lectura saludo amigo de argentina .

Hello. Thank you so much for this video. Max current charging I messure is 85mA when I have 4 lithium parallel. May I wrong?

sir tl 431 ki jagah 2n2222 teansistor ya lm 317 laga sakte hai kya.aur is circuit ka output current kitana rahega.agar iske input main 5volt 1amp diya jaye.plese bataye.

In circuit, output is from emmiter, but he connected to base while charging.

In the circuit diagram, the li-ion battery positive output is from the emitter of the transistor, but you get the output from the base in the assembly. Which one is right?

Base is connected to tl431 whch regulates voltage. Notice that the middle terminal of tl431 is the ground.

Yes battery will stop charging once gren led is lit. Its dangerous to set the voltage at max of 4.2. Otherwise it will explode.

It depends on the power transistor, here using d882 for 500mA

though the statement is correct, that isn'nt the correct answer to the question. You need to choose the resitor(47R in this case) to suite the required current. In any case tD882 can handle up to 500 ma. And power transistore may need heat sink if the input voltage is more. In any case this is the best and safest circuite.

Can someone (please) explain what's the purpose of every component in this circuit? (All i see is resistors, which limit the amps, to reduce the voltage, but I see a lot. WHY)? And why a 680 ohms? what for?

the 1k resitor sets the current for voltage divedier and always goes to max of 2.5 V. the current in this case is 2.5 ma and the same current flows thru upper resitor 680. you can change output voltage by changing this 680 ohm resitor remembering new resistor will still carry 2.5 ma. انا كمان مقاومة الكلكتور في الترانزستور ارتفعت درجة حرارتها وليد البيان احترق والtl ايضا ارتفعت درجة حرارته؟ والخرج كان حوالي 4.9v

The out put voltage this circuite is same as the voltage without battery connected. It should never be more than 4.2V. Adjust voltage by changing 680ohm, preferably add a higgh val resitor in parallel.
