@@_L.L. Thank you, I do these projects because I love making things and being creative. But admittedly it does require a lot of time. It took me a year to finish rev 1, I’m on rev 6 today. I do have an idea to make one that is a configurable remote that ties in to Home Assistant easily. My remote has over 2500 lines of code… not for the faint of heart. I need to make a proper GUI for it and sell or share it with the masses. But no how to video exist on how to make one right now. Thanks for watching!

Nothing beats a complete and discrete smart home like that! It looks like a home, and not a hacked-up, overly techy home. The central rack is fantastic, and that remote!!! AMAZING! I used to sell and program custom remotes from URC and it was amazing what I could get it to control and do. Far easier to have one remote to control everything than a smartphone. I wish Dave's remote was available so I could go back to using something similar. The Logitech Harmony did some of the controlling well, but still wasn't as fluid and quick to respond as my URC. Unfortunately, things like Hue and Lutron bridges don't work with the old URC, and some of it doesn’t work very well on the Logitech. Bring back an All-in-one remote that can be customized with current tech and I'll be happy!
@lackr00737 ай бұрын
Brian, thanks for the kind words! I start out using URCs, then Harmony but as eluted to in your comment all the IR based remotes fall short in some of the newer IP based players. TVs, and random devices. Also the systems that existed back then that could integrate all the latest tech together were really expensive and could only be programed by "Certified Installers". That is what lead me down the road of making my own. Thank you for watching Brian!
@brianr.88887 ай бұрын
@lackr0073 I appreciate the reply. Does your remote incorporate IR, RF, IP, and Bluetooth? If so, which was the biggest challenge to set up in your programming? The greatest convenience but biggest challenge for integration with the new tech in my home has been getting the Logitech to run lighting in with the macros. The URC could set an Intermission lighting scene when I hit pause and dim the lights with the play. Logitech is more difficult to program and won't even connect with our Hue hub anymore. Hopefully, you, or someone like you will come out with a worthy successor to the URC/Logitech line of products that are configurable via the eager consumer. I'm sure the biggest challenge to that works be offering tech support, followed closely behind by building and supplying IR databases, IP control, etc. Thanks again for showing off your amazing achievement in your smart home!
@lackr00737 ай бұрын
@@brianr.8888 Brian, It is a WIFI remote that communicates with a HUB that I made (In my server rack) that turns those commands in to IR commands and has many IR blaster outputs for different zone devices (TVs, receiver's, etc) and source devices (DVD, media players, etc..). The HUB also converts the remote commands into IP control commands to controls smart devices (media players, smart TVs, etc..). No Bluetooth (yet). I do have a consumer friendly version in the works that will simplify the setup process as the current version is all programmed in C++. It will also not require a HUB (Optional).

Yea I read some reviews that were similar to your problems before I bought this. My strategy was to limit the use of the door. Even with all the custom routines to limit them from just using the door to look outside (and not exit) the door has opened almost 9000 times over 6 months (I built in a counter). If I didn’t have that it would surely be at 20-40k. So I think most of it is just wear and tear on the door. Thanks for watching!
