Hi Ron, I still use the dewalt system. However, after talking with the guys that sell the system, they helped me upgrade it to the Verizon system with an external Antenna. I still have the bluetooth motion detector. What I added was an arlo camera. This camera uses the Verizon cell system and costs me an add Iona 10.00 per month on my phone plan. I installed the solar cell option and mounted it to the roof next to the main solar panels I use to power the trailer. To keep everything running smooth I use an all in one 24 volt/3000 watt solar charger/inverter. When I plug in shore power it automatically switches over. When I get a chance, I will do a short video of my trailer that I build using your plans and ideas. Thanks Shaun, Beach Home Solutions LLC

Great topic. I built your bench last year. I’ve already learned something from your video. I’m a woodworker on the weekends with a shop detached from the house. I worry though about security, especially when we’re away from home.

I bought the dewalt mobile lock about 4 years ago after seeing Ron’s video about it. It’s been solid up until about 2 months ago. (Started having connectivity/communication issues with it.) I called DML and they told me they are switching to 4G so they gave me a nice discount on the new version which includes an external antenna. I haven’t fully installed it yet but so far so good. I would definitely like to add a live video/photo option because I do get the occasional false alarm. It would be nice to be able to remotely check on the rig to make sure someone isn’t snooping around.

Ron & family, We work all over the country, I have 3 trailers built. We leave our trailers on site for months, we use the jobsite as our power source. As a deterrent only, I use trail cameras with SIM card. The cameras are hidden in the trailers within a armored box/cage and concealed. We also use a non internet/ non cell connected camera system with a monitor/ hub on a SIM card. This requires power to the rig at all times. The monitor/ hub is hidden behind the factory plywood with a secure/ secret access door. My trailers are over 24’ and have a GVWR of over 10,000lbs. I’m not concerned about them getting stolen , we have heavy duty hitch locks, chain the axels to the springs and sometimes remove the rims. ( Not ideal for Ron or guys on a job for a short time) I have experienced the bad guys cutting open the skin of the trailers with a grinder like a can opener , cutting door bars, pad locks etc.. It sucks! Good luck.. don’t be an easy target.

Our company has had our trailers broken into about 5 times. The problem is with all the cordless tool option this making it easy and fast for them to break in. What they are doing is not cutting the lock but bars on the handles to open the doors. We thought about using trail cameras set up on the trailers or at the houses we on framing at. I’m open for suggestions at this point . Good topic Ron love your channel!

I have purchased your SMART plans and getting ready to customize my trailer. I love this topic and will be watching to see what you come up with and also report what I come up with if it helps. Thanks Ron and everyone who is participating.

Nothing beats a LoJack as far as locator after the fact, I have their locator on my truck. 10 years ago I paid like $600 dollars, but they ALWAYS locate the vehicle. The installer won't even allow you, the client, to know where it is installed within the vehicle. I suspect it's under my dash somewhere. It was a one time fee and it's only activated if/when I call to report the vehicle stolen. They work directly with police departments to locate the vehicle - HUGE success rate. I'm sure they may have other products since that timeframe. I don't have a trailer nor intend to build one, but the first company I would contact to see if they have an option is Sonitrol , who work directly with police departments. Before I left the police department we interrupted most burglars (in buildings) as they were not aware the police department could hear them talking. Not sure if they have a mobile solution, but worth the call.

5x8 enclosed with the castle door and I’m a wedding DJ. Sometimes I have to park in NYC on the street. I try to back it right up to something to prevent the door from being pulled down, but I would sleep much better if I had a really loud alarm that would also text me if it goes off and maybe some sort of tracker. I’d love some options if anyone knows. I don’t put any signage indicating I’m a DJ so it could be diamonds or it could be coal inside, but either way I’m definitely a target.

I have done some ground work on the DeWalt system and am planning a Christmas present to my trailer this season and have it installed by Jan1. I appreciate the ability for motion detect, GPS location finder, tilt detect, sound detect, camera, cell-signal and app based directly linked to a phone, etc. I don't want anything stolen and if so, I want to find it and I would like to know when it is happening to circumvent, if at all possible, the misappropriation. The DeWalt system (and other similar systems?) should help with that. I know there are several physical impediments that can be utilized. Special locks that are harder to cut/grind, tire boot, chains, hitch removal, hitch lock, clever parking, even tire removal. I will follow this discussion closely so see if there are any other options that will work to better advantage than the DeWalt system.

Nothing is lower than a liar or a thief. My alarm system is not mobile but protects my home shop. I recently was notified by my cellular carrier that they were moving to 5G and older 3G systems would no longer function. I have to upgrade by February 2022. This may effect mobile systems as well, worth checking on.

You could install a Sierra wireless modem which can connect to any network and create a local wifi network in your trailer. You could use any camera system at that point and use Sierra wireless monitoring to the location, even geo-fencing. With a setup like this you do whatever you want. Install a accelerometer which could notify on vibrations or even a magnetic switch for alerts when if a door or window opens. Could even hook it up you your Apple or Goole homekit for automation.... I understand its not for everyone since it's a DIY, but with a setup like this, you can pretty much do as much or as little as you want. DIY, is fairly simple these days.

My van I installed deadbolts that operated off of its own remote. This system is completely independent of the alarm system on the van. You need both remotes to get access to the cargo area of the van. There is also a safety inside the van that you can open the doors manually if you get locked inside. I found them on the internet. I added to them to the side doors and the back doors. The van had a partition that blocked the drivers portion from the cargo area. When looking for a system I found that over in the UK they had lots of options as theft from service vehicles is a big problem. All my tools are also engraved on multiple sides (permanent marker can be dissolved). I also have photos of all my tools with model numbers and serial numbers. I did the engraving as they are easier to identify and having all the serial numbers if insurance requires them if they are stolen. When doing research I found that in the UK they will use a sawzall or use a grinder and go right through a side wall. Desperate people. Park your van safe. You may not want to advertise your business on your van, trailer or truck. It advertises to thieves as well. Magnetic removable signs maybe a better option.

Folks in the cycling community are exploring Apple Airtags for locating stolen bikes. Seems like a possible layer of protection for the most expensive tools.

I would think of hiding couple apple airtags as a cheap secondary security measure. If "thief" doesn't know it's there, they won't be able to disable it as they would be with the dewalt alarm.
@AccentAlarms
@AccentAlarms 2 жыл бұрын
Pretty solid idea, especially as a secondary system.

Problem with AirTags is if the Thief has a iphone it will tell them they are traveling with a unregistered AirTag that is tracking them. A feature I wish you could turn off but I get why they did it but kind of ruins it for these purposes.
@michaelgreen6301
@michaelgreen6301 2 жыл бұрын
@@RobbieMan75 I thought about this as well. The thing is, if the Airtag is hidden and they can't find it in the trailer, it will still continue to track them. If they do realize that they are being tracked, and they put two and two together that the trailer is being tracked, they would likely pull over and abandon the trailer. That would be the best case scenario anyway.
@AccentAlarms

@@michaelgreen6301 Great points being made and I would agree with you on this point. To the point that I ordered up a couple more Airtags to go along with the Flex IO that I use. I've tried posing about them several times but I keep having them deleted. This is so frustrating to me. I've been a follower of Ron's, bought his plans and am building out my 2nd trailer. 🙄

Best place to hide them is to hot glue them to the back of your tail light then reinstall the light. 😁 Keeps them out of the elements and definitely out of sight

I work out of a van and am curious if the systems you and others are talking about are good choices for me or if there is an alternative choice more suited for a vehicle w a battery rather than a trailer.
@jesseperry3660
@jesseperry3660 2 жыл бұрын
Most trailers have batteries for lights and such also. Mine does and can also be hooked to shore power. So security would be used about the same for both.
