If there was ever a striker that Inter want to partner Martinez in the CL final, it's Edin Dzeko. Even as a City fan, it would be naive to go in and assume we're going to steamroll Inter. The longer it stays 0-0, the more Inter will grow into the game. If they can resist the initial onslaught of City's attack, they have a chance. As a Barca fan, it would be Zubimendi, Ugarte, Neves, in this order of preference. Martin edges it just because of the experience he has had and it Seems like Xavi is keen on Martin too, that means he knows what kind of a player he needs in his system to fill up the hole being left behind by Busqi. As for Kessie, he is more of a Box to Box midfielder, can't expect him to play the No.6 role as it would limit Frenkie too who just has had an amazing season as Busqi was doing what he does best all along. Also, love the content from you guys lately, you 3 are the 🐐 lineup at FD.

As a Barca fan I quite like the idea of Amrabat. Sure, his ceiling isn’t as high as the other names mentioned, but he seems closer to the destroyer, anchor type that we need next to De Jong. Zubimendi and Ugarte I reckon will be too expensive (Zubi wants to stay at Sociedad too). Neves I don’t think is quite the right profile, and Xavi doesn’t want him.

As a Barcelona fan, it’s easy to say that I’m just happy Madrid lost. But in all honesty, I watch and KNOW La Liga - Real have not been spectacular. Teams can and have gotten at them. Even historically, Madrid has never been s particularly ironclad defense and haven’t been serial winners in the last decade outside of the champions league. When we beat them in the supercopa, earlier, these flaws were apparent. Finally happy these moments merchants have been exposed.

Zubimendi, Rodri and Kimmich are the players perfect for this Barca team. Since they play with a double pivot Frenkie has been a beast. Rodri is absolutely impossible to get. Kimmich would be perfect next to Frenkie, and there are rumors he would love to join. Problem is obviously that Bayern would never want him to leave. He has a contract left until 2025 so next year it would be easier but still a hard deal to pull off. Zubimendi is therefore probably the best option, although he doesn’t necessarily want to leave. He would cost around 60m. Ugarte would not be a good option at all. Completely different player from the other options, still an expensive player and definitely a risk. Amrabat would also be an option. He is relatively cheap and would be good in a double pivot. Also not a player that stylistically looks like Busquets, but a better player than Ugarte. If Zubimendi isn’t possible this summer, (or Kimmich of course), he would be my option for next year and then go after one of Zubi or Kimmich in the summer of 2024. Also gives them room in the budget to get Messi, Gundogan and maybe a right back. Btw I’m not even gonna talk about Ruben Neves, please NO.

@@chriswolf1089 A replacement is not the same as someone's successor. The latter is someone who's been mentored to play a specific role especially by the person they are going to succeed. Pep was more than Busquets coach, he was he was his mentor & Busquets was his protege that he developed to be his successor as they played the same position & he's done the same with Rodri. De Jong can replace Busquets as a single pivot but it wouldn't be playing to his strengths. As he excels as the more mobile & creative half of a double pivot that links play, sets tempo and has more freedom to roam. It's not the same as someone who has been developed to play as a single pivot as Rodri has. If you've seen Tifo's video on Busquets & Pirlo they categorise them both as deep lying playmakers but yet still different. They do a more in depth job of describing the nuances between them but De Jong would be more in Pirlo's mould than Busquets'. While Rodri would be more in Busquets' mould of a deep lying playmaker than he would Pirlo's.

Busi stays put and can progress the ball with his amazing passing range, De Jong progresses the ball through dribbling forward which leaves space to be exploited behind him. De Jong can't operate as a single pivot any time it's been tried he has failed. Also, this season Xavi's favoured formation in possession is a 3241 with Busquets and De Jong as double pivots, sometimes against weaker opponents Kounde pushes up more to make a 2341. There isn't anyone at Barcelona who can play beside De Jong as a starter week in and week out.
