That's not true. Can't one of you find a scripture in the bible to support your statement. But, there is evidence that at least two apostles were appointed by Jesus after his ascension back to Heaven & since the bible declares Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever, I believe if He did it then, He's doing it now. According to the bible first, apostles were placed in the church. Where do you see them taken out? There is no scripture to support that the apostles are no longer being appointed & if that's the case, why are preachers still in existence? I can agree that everyone who claim to be an apostle probably is not, but until you can prove by scripture that apostles are no longer in the church, they are still right where the bible say they are.....in the church!

@@debra1057. In all due respect, there are simply many of us who believe the role of "apostle" was specific to the early church. The Bible does not state that new apostles exist in the same sense as the original ones. The scriptures you are quoting were "roles" given by Christ to build the church. The passage itself does not specify whether these roles are for the past or present; however, the foundational roles of the early apostles is explained in Ephesians 2:20. The apostles today are primarily associated with the Pentecostal and charismatic movement. My position on this has nothing to do with Cory, though I believe there are far too many people using the title "apostle" to elevate themselves, and that is what I find most annoying. I have never heard of Gino Jennings. I looked for information about him and I believe his theology is absolutely wrong. There is Ephesians 4:11-13 not Ephesians 14: 11-13 unless that was a mistake in your typing because Ephesians finishes at Ephesians 6:23. What are you talking about when you said, God took them out after he put them in. And what are you saying about stop adding to God’s word? I do not listen to Cory very often. I’m having a hard time believing there are still Apostles in today’s world. I do believe (now) it’s self appointed. Why do we feel the need for titles? There is no need for apostles. Everyone that boasts that they are apostles just want a special title above others. Jesus says to call no one father, rabbi, or master. The apostles helped set up the church. The question a lot of these so-called apostles should be asked is "do you believe you are something more special than the normal Christian who risk their lives to do mission work and dedicate their lives to God?"

I disagree with anyone saying that there are No more Apostles.. Jesus said First in the Church is an Apostle.. He didn’t say Was which would be past tense.. He said First in the Church which means Now right now! At this present time until Christ comes.. I'm asking again this question no one ever seems to address this in Ephesians 4:11 These offices are listed together. We know this by the commas. Why is it that we are saying that Apostle is no longer valid but these other offices are still in work. If you saying that office of Apostle is no longer valid then all those offices listed with Apostle are also invalid today. So please with all sincererity how is this possible? According my studies there are no clear scriptures explaining the office is no longer valid. Yes Paul did call out fake Apostles but that doesn't preclude that the office it self is no longer valid. Paul is not saying that the Lord is continuously GIVING apostles. He's simply making a statement of what he gave and why. You will notice the office of Pastor and of evangelist is spoken of later in the scriptures while there is no more giving of Apostles. However we take this verse, the requirements still must be met, and that is 1. Have seen and have been sent by Jesus after his resurrection, 2. They are the foundation of the Church, 3. The sings of a TRUE apostle must accompany them.

@smartchristians Well let's look at this. 1. The word "apostle" is not capitalized meaning Paul is not denoting a specific set of people or person. Neither does the hebrew or greek capitalize "apostolos" or shali' ah either in this particular passage. 2. Silence on the topic going forward does not preclude the office is invalid. 3. The list qualifications are the similarities/experiences that each held in common as appointed "Apostles" of Christ. That also does not denote that this is the only way to become an "apostle". For example some would say (not me) that Paul never met Jesus physically so how could he be an Apostle. We hold his experience on the road to Damascus as sacred/valid then invalidate and tell others who say they've had an encountered God and say they are appointed this position. One could argue there is no comfirmation by others like Paul had with Barnabus and Titus. The only thing I would argue even if they did have comfirmation most would not believe because many hold the position so highly. (Almost in a state of idoltry in my opinion) Thank you for responding. I love the way you give hearts to those who agree with you. I think many of your so called debates are set so the people who follow you can help you look good. I do believe there are some screwed up ministries. However, there are things that are you opinion! What I would like to see is a written debate. You see debates done by people facing off is not reliable because the one with the charisma is going to win whether he or she is right or wrong. But, if is written with no name then people could decide for themselves. I think it is a much more accurate way to see what people believe. I was challenged when I was in college to find a Evolutionist to debate a Creationist Colonel. I would receive a thousand dollars if I could get one and I didn’t. But, debate with the written views. Hey Corey! So, I am a continuationist and believe in the present day ministry gifts of apostles and prophets. You mentioned the greek tense of the word “gave” in verse 11 to back your argument which didn’t connect in my understanding because that same reasoning can’t be used for the other ministry gifts listed: Evangelists, Pastors/Teachers. I am also reformed in my understanding of God’s sovereignty so I am not opposed to the common reformed understanding that Pastor/Teacher are one gift. Some of my argumentation around the veracity of the continuation of apostolic ministry is that Ephesians 4 says the gifts were given to the Church WHEN Christ ascended not before. This seems to make it clear that there is a distinction between the 12 Apostles of the Lamb, who were eye witnesses of the incarnate God and had the authority to write Scripture, from the Ephesians 4 Apostles given to the Church which I believe are essential in planting churches. The word missionary, as I’m sure you are aware of, is not even in the Bible. I believe the fruit of apostolic ministry is a team of “missionaries” that plant churches that plant churches. Christ still calls and appoints his Apostles. He also shows himself to them in the Spirit realm, and also through dreams and visions. The Holy Spirit conveys, speaks, and brings us (mankind) information from God. God's ways and thoughts are higher than ours. We should not dictate how He works now. He is God. Based on this interpretation, who were the Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers that were appointed by Christ. Being that the Holy Spirit doesn’t speak on his authority, is not those appointed as apostles by man under the leading Holy Spirit to be considered as appointed by Christ. Acts 13:2 - while they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”… so being sent out by the Holy Spirit they went… One can’t use the argument that the Bible doesn’t mention it in the scriptures because there is a lot that the New Testament doesn’t expressly mention that Christians practice. But the fact that we are having this discussion is proof that Eph 4:13 has yet to be fulfilled😂😂

If you are using Jesus definition then you have the church at the end of Acts 2, which would have started in Jerusalem. If Apostles and prophets are foundations are the foundations for the church globally, thus a one time foundation or are they regional? For example apostles and prophets for the church in Ephesus and Corinth, etc. if it is a one time thing, then todays Christianity should mirror more of what the original apostles laid out, which we could use the didache as a source oppose to a Calvin or Luther, etc? Because Calvin or Luther or any other would not be considered a foundation piece.

Whether or not there are still apostles, the issue I have is with those who insist on using the title for themselves. There are men in the church who care for, and shepherd the members. They ARE pastors, because that's what they do, regardless of titles. There are teachers, by the same reasoning; because that's their gift, and that's what they do. It is foolishness to grab at, and insist on using a title. And, for me, personally, it raises suspicion. If God has put/sent you somewhere for His purposes, just obey, do the work under His guidance, and be content to be called 'brother'.

You are right my brother. Jesus can speak to anyone he chooses, at anytime he chooses, anywhere he chooses and for whatever reason he chooses. And, if one gift is obsolete, then what about the others, what makes them different? We still need healings, we still endowment by the holy ghost, we still need interpretation of tongues, we still need prophesy and so on. Please don't confuse normative for narrative..Paul's encounter was narrative and he himself has already said the he is the last .. Paul is not saying that the Lord is continuously GIVING apostles. He's simply making a statement of what he gave and why. You will notice the office of Pastor and of evangelist is spoken of later in the scriptures while there is no more giving of Apostles. However we take this verse, the requirements still must be met, and that is 1. Have seen and have been sent by Jesus after his resurrection, 2. They are the foundation of the Church, 3. The sings of a TRUE apostle must accompany them.

It only proves that there is at least 1 true apostle somewhere. Satan wouldn't go out of his way to counterfeit a non-existent office. Paul mentions in his letters that there were heretics calling themselves apostles even in the 1st century, but you never see cessationists bring that up in their arguments. This is not unique to our times.

GOD via the Holy scriptures has ordained and setup the church. Some functions to teach, preach, administrate, govern etc. If someone believes they can cover everything in the scriptures in their lifetime, by all means attend to this novel idea. The aged women have their assignment via scripture. The aged men their function. Peter an Apostle of Jesus Christ had his assignment, and he completed it. Paul an Apostle of Jesus Christ had his assignment, and he completed it. My prayer, well one of my prayers for the Church is that we complete the original biblical assignment. Being light and salt. Having received power - the holy ghost- being a witness of and unto Jesus Christ our Lord. To be honest; can’t we be considered apostles since we also witnessed the doings of Jesus and heard His words to His apostles through the accounts of the gospels? I understand the discrepancy as far as Paul not meeting the 3 pointed criteria for an apostle. Just like bishops were appointed by the elders, even though there was also a criteria for bishop. The fact is, if you're not operating in them offices, then you don't keep the title. I personally believe the office of apostle ended with the conversion of the disciples.

Paul states in Gal. 1:15-18 that Christ personally instructed him in Arabia for the same amount of time that He instructed the original 12 apostles. Yes, Paul needed to study because he had to unlearn the false doctrines of Orthodox Judaism like they did. Paul didn't begin preaching until Peter validated him as a true apostle.

I would make the argument that Barnabas was appointed to the apostleship by the Holy Spirit (Acts 13:2) as he was separated, called and in verse 4, sent by the Holy Spirit. Barnabas was also with Paul when they went to Jerusalem to consult James concerning the gospel message. And in Acts 15:12-21 He was also confirmed by the miracles he did. The scriptures do not record that he saw Christ though.

Has this been Fulfilled yet ever? Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Jesus came to me at 7 years old, and not in a dream face to face in my grandmas church. His face was too radiant to see, but the form bodily I saw as He approached me face to face, and He spoke through the Radiance 3 things to me that I still live by til this day. The same voice who came to me at 7, came to me in a bar in 1998 and the Fear of The Lord gripped me that night to the core of my being this time, and in this moment He said, it's time, you can no longer be of this lifestyle nor be here amongst this any longer, but I will send you back to these people you see before you to win them to Me one day to Save their Souls. It's time to Go. That night in that Bar through an encounter with Jesus Christ I surrendered my life. When I say FEAR, I mean FEAR of The Lord that grips you to the core where I knew in this moment how real Heaven and Hell truly was and the darkness of my sin and lifestyle in which I was living would lead me to Hell had I not turned. So, in saying all of this, people say those who SEE Jesus after the 12 like Saul did, are those He has Chosen as Apostles, but I'm not a Title Person, because even greater than Title is son... So, I get the Title stuff, and people sure do love their Titles especially in the Church because that's what Validates their Identity not Christ and it Soothes their Ego not Christ. They want the Praise if the truth be told, which is dangerous. Those who love Titles can have it, GIVE ME JESUS... So, in saying all of this. Do I Believe they still remain - Yes. Just not the ones we see today, the False Ones are not Apostles at all. Do I Believe a Woman can be an Apostle - NO and that I stand on fully. There are No Apostles. Those men who call themselves Apostles today are men seeking glory. They want God's glory too! "Apostle" and "tithing" are of the same misuse. They sound churchy but are obsolete after 2000 years. Offerings and "thithes" are both used collection gathering. Thitheing was for temple, offerings are for the church age. Apostles are gone after John died.

Yes, that is what "apostle" basically means. An apostle is someone who God ordains into the role, trains, and then sends out to do His Work and preach what He reveals. There are no special qualifications beyond that.
