Destin is a genius. You need to watch more of his videos. He has a whole series on submarines where he went to the ICEX: US Navy Mission in Arctic and went on a nuclear sub under the ice that you would love.

The compression cone area is how armor piercing rounds work. Often it's not the actual projectile, but the chunks of interior armor breaking off to become spalling. Going off on a tangent about recoil: The crazy thing about the Barret M82 (and Browning M2 .50 caliber machine gun) is it uses a short recoil system where the bolt and barrel come back to reduce the recoil (a bit) and it's got a giant howitzer style muzzle brake to further reduce recoil. Recoil reduction is a side benefit, while the barrel and bolt are coming back, locked together, it's giving the chamber pressure time to go down to safely open the breach to extract and eject the casing and load another round. In the case of the Barret and other .50 caliber rifles, it's common for the muzzle gases coming out the sides of the muzzle brake to blow everything off the table on either side, including cased rifles and pistols. Most of the time when mounting a sound suppressor on a .50 caliber rifle, you have to remove the muzzle brake. As far as I know, there's not a quick disconnect suppressor mount that can handle .50 BMG. Most suppressor manufacturers try to make their suppressors as light as possible to reduce overal weight of the gun and to prevent jams, especially with a recoil operated gun like a Barrett. A titanium suppressor for a .50 caliber rifle still weighs 20 oz, or about a pound and a half, which is twice as much as a suppressor for 5.56 or 7.62. Without the muzzle brake, there's no recoil suppression other than what's built into the gun, through the weight or action. Shooting a single shot or bolt action .50 is absolutely brutal without a muzzle brake. Gas operated guns, like the Serbu .50 automatic, use a system similar to the AR-15. The Serbu is a scaled up DI system used by the AR-15. Tapping into the gas reduces recoil, but not the power. Recoil and gas operated shotguns do the same thing, if they're set up right.

I’ve had the privilege of shooting a larger gun than this: a Mk1 Boys anti tank rifle, still chambered in .55 caliber. The muzzle blast and recoil is a force to be reckoned with, my shoulder was bruised for weeks afterwards, it’s such an adrenaline rush with that thing.

I know of Smarter Every Day because of watching a video from The Fat Electrician went down a massive rabbit hole on O2 "Candles" so Destin went into a Sub to show how all that works. Slow-Mo Guy are amazing they recently done a few Colabs with Adam Savage of Mythbusters. Watching all of the above it nice as they explain to you simple and easy to understand ways

This guy has a great channel. I've watched a number of his videos in the past. He gets into the science of it because, that's what he does. Destin Sandlin is a "Science guy", well actually he's an engineer. He once gave a lecture to NASA engineers Titled: "I Was SCARED To Say This To NASA... (But I said it anyway)" regarding their preparations to return to the moon. He breaks everything down into layman's terms to make it easier to understand.👍

I've been subscribed to Destin's channel for a long time. He has great videos and he's wicked smart. He did a multi-part series of going on a US Nuclear sub under the ice. I think there's six or seven videos. So, if you want more detailed info on subs, that's the ticket right there.

Of course, you know a lot more than the average person about The Algorithm. Streaming media and KZbin media, etc, is so fractured compared to media back in the day. Before we had cable, you only had one or 3 or 4 channels you could pick up over the air, depending on the population of the area you lived. In the US, you had NBC, ABC, CBS, and PBS, a government and privately funded broadcasting network, public radio and TV, like BBC. When a very popular show was on, you had multiple millions of viewers, like the US football Super Bowl had over 1 billion viewers and various Olympic events had over a billion viewers. A lot of people would chit chat about last night's episode of Cheers or the Tonight Show. Today, if a video has a million viewers, it's a big deal, but it's usually not one million viewers watching at the same time, like a TV program, it takes time to build up the views. With so many broadcast outlets with TV, cable, satelite TV, and streaming, a hit show gets a fraction of the viewership compared to back in the day when you had a "captive audience" with limited choices. I promise, if there was only one channel, the Paint Drying Show would be the biggest hit, ever. Kind of like watching a campfire inside a TV like in Terminator. :)

Luke admitting he has never watched Smarter Everyday. I now know who hasn't been smarter every day. You've got some catching up to do and I'm not saying that in any kind of demeaning manner. Like literally, Destin's content is the kind of things that both are on the side of things you see everyday and wonder why and never bother to learn and those "what if" scenarios that are still within the realm of plausibility that you could debate about with your friends ad infinitum and he's just going to do it because he thought of a way to test it and he's going to bring you along for the ride. He's one of the "big 3" edu-tainers/inventors/scientists on KZbin. Smarter Everyday, Veritasium, and Mark Rober. I'll admit there's many other edu-tainers, inventors, and scientists on the platform that have a lot of sway and following, but it's like if you say "OG Video Gamer KZbinr" you would probably think PewdiePie, Markiplier, or Jacksepticeye. Those prior three are the same as the other three, just for science. They're kind of the OG's. The "KZbin Mythbusters/Discovery Channel" equivalent around the same time Mythbusters was airing. So he's got some really intriguing stuff that will make you sound smart to your kids.

To answer your question about a .50 cal bullet resistant acrylic, technically yes, such a thing exists. It's called a mistake at the acrylic factory where someone turned off the machinery and the molten acrylic is now just a large pillar contained within a crucible and if you took it out, it's theoretically thick enough to stop a .50 cal bullet once. Officially, no. I don't believe there's any 12.7mm rated bullet resistant acrylic that's out and being made for use. At least to my knowledge.

I think you'd be interested in his Coast Guard, Submarine, and Prince Rupert's Drop videos. There's some insane innovations that go into the US Coast Guard boats that allow them to strafe....They've got boats that can slide left and right without the boat tipping over and it's a feature not a bug. The way US submarines are structured and ran is amazing considering both how big and how constricted they are. And Prince Rupert's Drops is what happens when molten glass is dropped into water. A weird phenomenon occurs that makes that particular bit of glass special and he does some crazy things with it. Oh, and for fun he also he fires a baseball cannon for science.
