Although, Rory did a good job, his price for a ine minute video edit is just too high. I wouldn't even go with the first one, which to me seems very jarring. Travel videos are something you want to watch and enjoy at a slower pace

As a viewer, I was more captivated by the first option; it held my interest and made me curious to see what would come next. On the other hand, the second option didn't engage me as much, and my attention started to wander. Therefore, if your aim is to create an aesthetically pleasing video for seniors, then the second option might be the best choice. However, if your objective is to capture and maintain the audience's attention until the end, I would recommend going with the first option. These are just my observations from an outsider's perspective. Remember, sometimes 'better' doesn't always mean more effective.

True, I concur with you. I was more focused and wanted to see what clip was added next and the transition with the first video, also the music with the first video was good and engaging.

I liked the first edit and, although the swirly transitions are a bit naff, the colour co-ordination between the underside of the Arc and the autumn leaf worked really well, I thought. I was expecting much more from the second edit. Yes the music sounded more cinematic but was its mood appropriate for a travel-type video? Also, the fake night and storm effects just seemed out of place - like they put them in just because they could and not because they fitted the mood. In fact, the second edit couldn't seem to identify and settle on a mood for the sequence. The same with the fuzzy, glitchy effects and transitions - very clever and well executed, but what did they add to the narrative arc? The stabilization, colour grading and overall treatment of the video was far more professionally done than the first edit, but I much preferred Thinupa's effort overall, as his choice of clips and journey creation was way more engaging. Money well spent, I'd say.

Completely agree with you! The music in the second edit seemed a bit out of the place and the video was shorter than I expected. Just like you, I didn't like the blue storm effects; too much saturation and out of place. The first video seemed a bit less professional but was a good job for $250 as compared to $700. Also, the first video was more engaging and kept the interest in the city, as a travel video should.

You pointed out my initial thoughts and a couple extra. For someone who's just about to try their first video this comparison was very helpful and showed that having a team and fancy things I've yet to learn about absolutely isn't necessary. Massive confidence boost in this comment and this video for me. I'm not an artistic type so I find spotting some of these things pretty difficult

I travel a lot and always create videos of my trips. I love capturing evocative B-roll and cinematic shots (as much as is possible with my travel itinerary), and my top goals in making each travel video is 1) to evoke a sense of place, i.e. what is unique to that location, and 2) to make the viewer feel what I experienced. In my opinion, both edits prioritized editing techniques, so that the videos are more about the editing itself than they are about Paris and experiencing it. Of the two edits, I prefer the second one, although I find the music ominous and wonder why a travel video would want to present Paris as being ominous. I think both edits would work well as opening sequences for an action film set in Paris, but don’t work as stand-alone travel videos. I’m sure some people will completely disagree with me, but I hope that my viewpoint will be courteously considered.

I think I liked both of the edits, they both had different things that I liked and things that I didn't like. The one thing that I thought your video on KZbin should have had was an edit of the footage by you. After all, you know the energy in the clips that you took. I think that makes a difference. The person taking the video knows the energy of the area, they know what they want to portray. They know what they want to focus on. Someone on the outside doesn't, to them, they're just clips.

More importantly than which video I thought was better is how much enjoyed your refreshing presentation. You didn’t waste a frame here, it was compelling up to the end so kudos for that. I think I preferred the second one. I am more drawn to the dramatic and it felt a little more cinematic to me. My only issue is that it seemed to lack a definite ending…just seemed like someone hit the stop button before the edit was over. Anyway, great video, subscribed.

Both videos were fast paced, almost hyper active, and both lacked a “sense of pacing”. They both looked like they were trying to to shove as many clips as possible into a limited amount of time. That isn’t story telling and I feel both were a waste of money. Slow it down. Selectively know which clips to throw out, that don’t contribute to evoking a meaningful “experience”. Story telling.

This is a great video - thanks for your hard work. The first video feels very “KZbiny” and frankly frenetic. The second video was better but pace didn’t change much throughout. It’s great too see what your money can buy in the editing market for sure. Yes, Rory's edit was far superior, in that (as you said) the 'sound design,' which properly ascended toward the end, really enhanced the cinematic feel of the piece, whereas, the first creator, in my view, simply 'over-edited' the whole clip, which, unfortunately, cheapened your excellent camera work, resulting in a rather annoying overall result. Excellent video, mate, and the product placement was seamlessly perfect! Cheers from a fellow creator in San Diego, California!

I was impressed by the first edit for sure. Thinupa was able to squeeze many shots and was more exciting and dramatic in a 60-sec film. Yes the swirly bits can be ignored but again that is what today's most travel films are about. As for Rory, it was a bit yawns and with definitely lesser content in it. a more 70 ish straight forward.

I like the second one because the color and transitions were better. It felt cinematic so he did execute what was promised. It felt like the start of a movie or short film. I also liked the first one because it gave me a feel for the people of Paris and the everyday life of ppl coming and going but I wouldn't say I liked the transitions. Personally, I'd go with the first guy based on the price, and if it includes revisions I'd ask him to brighten the color a bit and use more seamless transitions along with stabilizing the footage and boom.

Rory’s was a clear winner for the story telling as well, transitions, and sound. In the end depends on what this is going to be used for. If it’s for commercial purposes, I think I would go with Rory despite the price. If I was just doing this for KZbin, for example,Thinupa would clearly be more economical and acceptable.

It was an exciting video, thanks! (Even so the last few seconds seem to be missing/cut! 😄) I also think the second edit was better, but - as an average person without professional knowledge about movie editing - I do not think it was 2.5x better. 🙂 And the color grading was too dark for me in both cases! I'm really curious about what would you create from your footage, Steve! 😉

As an amateur videographer no where near your level I really enjoy watching your clips. I would really have liked you to have put a link to the footage that you used on here so we could have had a go ourselves, I would have loved to compare my play ground level editing to the paid pros. Keep up the posts. PS I thought the 1st video was the better value for money but I do agree with you that some of the transitions were a bit iffy.

There first one had more content and seemed to tell more of a story. The second one was technically better but looked like an ad agency put it together. Both were good, but I vote number one for interest.

What a super cool video, love it and the tips🔥' A quick question...what length of the videos do you recommend filming the clips for video editing? 10sec, 30sec, more?

1st edit as was way more original and used all your footage types. Liked the train sounds also. Made it feel more realistic

Excellent video. Did you specify editors who use Final Cut Pro X only, so you could tweak them afterwards? That would help you salvage a less-than-ideal edit yourself after they do the groundwork and maybe make the cheaper editor more of a value proposition?

I didn't actually think of this but it's great idea! For this experiment I wanted to see what each edit would look like completely untouched by myself. If this was a project that I wanted to re-edit though then choosing editors who work in Final cut would be crucial. Thanks

I am note sure the second footage worthes its price... I noticed a clean orbit shot around the statue before the editing, on your rushes. You also succeeded in maintaining the Arc de Triomphe perfectly centered in your fake drone shot. I would be curious to know how you do such clean shots : setting of your gimbal, setting of (native ?) camera app ? (my orbits are awfully shaking....)... That's when you try to imit the master that you understand what a newby you are ! Perhaps these are two subjects for future video ;o)
