64/Pikachu meta: In Japan was terrible, here in occident was mediocre instead. Melee/Star Fox meta: Like 64 DK in occident, not really good. Brawl/Meta Knight meta: A slower game help him a lot, and for this he became an average character. 4/P2W meta: The improves to his movility (The roll attack from DK country saga) and rage mecanic make him a good fighter, the best "superheavy" overall, but not a top tier like Diddy or Cloud. Ultimate: We still doesn't have a clear META in this game, but looks good with some tournaments won. Still not a top tier, like always. For more information I recommend to ask KONGa, the best OTP Donkey Kong player in USA and one of the best players in general.

In the short hopping section, you gloss over the fact that there are actually multiple jump heights in Smash64, depending on whether the joystick is held forward or neutral. Forward short-hops go are shorter than neutral short-hops, and for certain aerial combos, you'll need to do the specific type of hop. This is unique to 64, and not present in any other smash game.

Bumping this. I did not know this lol :P
@jacobsmith3957
@jacobsmith3957 5 жыл бұрын
To add to this there is also different jump heights depending on if you use the stick or the c-buttons. If you use the stick for full hopping, you will actually go higher than if you use the c-buttons for full hopping. And you can get a higher short hop for stick jump as well (although stick jump short hops are extremely hard to pull off). Best example of this is Captain Falcon in J version vs. U version. In J, the full hop stick jump just reaches the top plat with a perfect land, in U he cannot get to the top plat without using a double jump.

One minor nitpick: in the Smash 64 community SDI is generally just known as DI. Usually you only hear players coming from more recent games call it SDI; very rarely commentators or pros.

So the only things I would make as an addendum to this: 1) Dash dancing isn't that big in 64. Yes it is used, but really only by Falcon and Fox. All the characters just do dash pivots. Or in Yoshi and Ness's case they'll just DJC (double jump cancel) rush you since it is faster for them than running. 2) With run, you can stop it at any time with shield or grab. This is actually really important, as shield is instant and only requires 4 frames to drop, and can be cancelled at anytime with jump. So it is a great way to stop momentum out of a run, although not generally used for that purpose. Some characters will also do "grab-dancing" where they will stop their run with a grab. This is far riskier, even for the fastest of characters, but can be used as a way to mix up from putting up shield, which can cause you to put into shield stun, which can mean trouble. 2a) all characters have 2 frames of invincibility when they start their shield jump. So the ideal way to get out of run is to shield and then jump. 3) Tech in place is a very good option, tech rolls are not. Generally, for most characters (save for like DK and Link), the tech roll is slow, not that much distance, and easily reactable in a tech chase situation. The better mix up is actually tech in-place vs. no tech. However, even in this case, they both technically become vulnerable on the same frames, so if you time it right, you can still hit your opponent regardless of if they tech or not. There are many characters who have setups for all tech options, and so teching is really a last resort, and isn't as good of a defense option as it may seem to be at first (at least at the higher levels). Source: Tag is GT, got top 8 at CEO: Dreamland (Kappa), but for real though, played this game very seriously from SSC '16 to SSC '18, and know many of the top players, (including KeroKeroppi, pronounced Key-ro-ke-ro-pee btw) and this is just some additional knowledge I've collected from them and my experience with the game as well. The game is hella fun and the community is lit af, the only reason I still don't play right now is that I'm just too damn busy, but I'm itching to get back at some point. I'll be at SSC '19 for sure though.

Smash64 explained: There's a bunch if hidden mechanics that you were never told about and you can't possibly hope to pull off. The real way to play it is you get 0-Death'd in twelve seconds at your first tournament, run back to your hotel room, then cry in the shower for three hours. Last one in the shower is the winner. And now you know how to play Smash 64, you're welcome.

Hey nice video, it's a great way to introduce new players to the scene. I gotta be that guy and say that you forgot to tell about ledge cancel and that you can angle some smash attacks so it can be tricky to Smash DI. Grab is kinda broken here. There's some other specific characters techniques like double jump Ness which you showed in your video but didn't mention.Again, great video and you were able to compile in a good and entertainment way.

Ya should have mentioned the following: Only Smash 64 has different jump heights depending on where you hold the control stick and whether you use the c button or the stick to jump. applies to short hop and full hop. You can't fastfall in smash64 after you input an aerial, in all other games you can. Shoulda mentioned shield dropping. shoulda mentioned shield jumping (2 frames on invincibility on em) probably should have mentioned the multiple shield break combos every1 has. shoulda mentioned teleporting as its a pretty fun mechanic.

One thing about smash di. to perform SDI in smash 64 you do something which is known as "wanking." Basically you take your control stick and set it to the side you want to di on with your thumb and then you open up your hand so only your thumb is resting on the joystick then you start rapidly shaking your controller up and down with your right hand. It's a cool little thing that mad sdi so much easier when I was first learning it

You can actually shorthop with tap jump... Not necessarily recommended (in 64 at least) but it is an option
@canyounotsee
@canyounotsee 5 жыл бұрын
it actually is recommended in smash 64 :p shorthopping with tap jump gives you a little extra height (same with full jump). Test this out. Load up hyrule, play as fox. go to left side. run into the wall and shorthop with the c buttons, you can't make it over the wall. But if you shorthop with the stick, you make it over. Same for the other side. You can't full jump over the right wall ledge as fox running into the wall with C button, but can with tap jump. This is important for many characters so that they can or cannot land on the platform, or land on the platform as soon as possible (if platform is 10 meters high, then you want to do the jump that is 10 meters so you land asap, not the one that is 10.5m). Depending on where you load ur stick and what button you use (c button or tap jump), you get very different jump heights, 28 variations of jump height first part of this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpWudZiGfryLfNU also this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6Kso42IdpaLetU

@brada5581

Your character has to be slightly above the ledge and you hit your stick into the corner of the ledge. For example, if you are on the right edge of dreamland and you're slightly above the edge, like I said, you want to hit your stick down and right into the stage. It seems counterintuitive to hit the stick back off stage but you will get it in time with practice
